I JUST fixed my running toilet. The commode was a 2018 install, so it had the knob adjustment for the water level built in. A simple few twist to the level, negative (-) to reduce the water level and "WALA". Magic. No more running toilet and no money spent.💪🏾 Thank you for this amazingly handle and to the point video. I'm a DIY girl and this did the trick.

Thank you for explaining all Three ways that could be the problem. Every other video I found only spoke of the flush valve, but it was our fill valve that was bad. Adjust the float didn't work, but your video put us on the right track to investigate further. My 14 year old son and I watched your video, discussed what we thought was wrong, investigated, discovered it was the valve and not just the float, watched more videos, bought parts, and fixed it today! It was a good project for us to do together. Thank you.

Hi Jeff! Thank you so much for this video, I think you've saved me a ton in lost water costs! The only question I have is this: I have a diaphragm fill valve and wanted to adjust the arm but it doesn't have screws to adjust the arm- what's that about? I twisted it in the tank as much as I could and I think that stopped the problem (for now) but don't quite know how I could adjust it otherwise. Any tips are welcomed! Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this detailed video! We had a leak inspector take the toilet apart today and leave without re-calibrating the float or turning the water back on, and I was so worried the bathroom would flood because when I turned the water back on myself the water just kept filling the tank! I'm relieved it was so easy to address and very grateful I didn't have to call the landlord and the plumber back just for this. I realize this is an old video and you may not still be looking at the notifications but truly this was so helpful! You saved a millennial's life today lol

The last suggestion was not necessarily the last resort. You can pull off the cap on the valve and then remove the top of the valve by turning it counterclockwise and lifting it to expose the rubber diaphragm. Pop that off and hold a cup upside down over the top of that valve. Turn on the water so that it shoots up and into the cup,instead of the ceiling, to clean out the debris. Turn the water back off and after wiping out the debris from the diaphragm reinstall everything. If the diaphragm is worn out then you will have to replace it or install a new flush valve. It is always good to have a spare flush valve on hand for emergencies. It's also a good idea to not attempt plumbing repairs on a weekend or on holidays because if you break something, you want to be able to get a real plumber as soon as possible. We've learned that lesson the hard way.
@HomeRepairTutor9 жыл бұрын

I bet you can fix it EnzoFuturistic - start by making sure the water level is 1 inch below the overflow valve. Adjust your fill valve float to do this. If that doesn't work then see if your flapper needs to be replaced. You can then replace the fill valve if the toilet continues to run. It costs about $10.

The older I get, the more I learn about toilets and problems than can come up. I only ever had a problem that wasn't mentioned in your tutorial. That was a leaking seal between the tank and bowl! It's rare, but it can happen. A good symptom of that one is the commode that just runs for like a split second, you hear the water come on and kick off so quickly, that you might not even be sure that you heard anything at all. That's a larger repair job, you have to drain and remove the tank, reinstall a new seal, and usually new tank bolts too. The old rusted ones might be a bugger to get off, but I enjoyed your tutorial for a quick refresh on the many problems that I've encountered over the years.

Thank you for this particular video, you went step by step on all possible water leak issues, I found my leak and repaired it without difficulty. Outstanding presentation and learner friendly,,, Manny from Chino, god bless.

I have the cylindrical float like you showed, except instead of a screw it was a pinch clamp. Toilet was running due to water level being too high. Video is explained well for someone who has never tinkered with a toilet before. Thank you for posting, a picture (or a video!) is worth a thousand words, and this made for an easy fix.

Thank you for showing us how to adjust the height of the ball! This is the only video I found that shows how to work with the old school floating ball type!

Thanks for the video Jeff. My son has a toilet that keeps running in the toilet bowl. I tried changing the flapper but it still done the same thing. I did not think about the flapper valve having a crack in it. This video helped me a lot. Thanks again Jeff and have a Blessed Day.
