6:08 I heard that story and thought that it seemed silly too until my uncle who works at Lockheed Martin on Satellites explained that it made complete sense because using the graphite of a pencil was dangerous in space because if the pencil tip broke off or the dust accumulated on the instruments it was conductive and could cause a short and a fire. Fire is really dangerous in 0g and particles like that are difficult to contain.

An ordinary ball point works in space because it works on air pressure not gravity the ball drags ink out which creates low pressure at the ball end of the ink tube. The fisher space pen was as much of a marketing scam as space watches and astronaut corvettes.

@@elanman608 they actually work because of contact wetting angles and tension created because, but that can also lead to the ink leaking out the back of the ink tube, the other thing fisher did was to make sure the pens worked under extreme temperatures too

Not everyone likes cars and this guy was definitely a hoarder. It was mentioned in another video that the house is a disaster. If I had to guess, the old man ran the family off if they tried to intervene and passed away doing what he enjoyed; which seems to be collecting cars and buying stuff. There is a lot of junk, but there's also a lot of stuff people will pay surprising amounts of money for. Selling it all in a reasonable time frame is the hardest part.

The 82 to 84 had a round speedometer fuel gague that were roughly the same size and two round gagues for volts and oil pressure. Also this was a fuel injected 2.8L V6 which came about 85. Re: the space pencil thing at 6:10. No, I’m an idiot. The MAP sensor passes through a hole in the side of the air cleaner, but that’s strictly for mounting - it gets its data from a vacuum line. So… about the only thing a flip would affect is warmup time. But I’m betting there’s a TBI out there somewhere that relies on airflow in the air cleaner, so I’m sticking with “don’t do it, kids!” 😛

When I was 16 back in 2007, me and my dad revived it out of my Grandpas back yard. (Rip grandpa) I’ll never forget seeing him walk out of his house with the keys in one hand, and a fresh battery in the other. He told me, “if it fires up it’s yours” What an awesome experience it must be, every door you open has some old car waiting to be fired up behind it. I LOVE this sort of thing. Just recently I had the chance to try my luck at firing up an old 7.3 diesel that has been sitting in an old barn for a long time. (My very own revival attempt) Getting it to fire up after some small things done was finally a feeling I’ve been wanting to have again for a really long time. Getting to see you guys experience that with every one of these cars is so cool. Thanks JYD. Your keeping me smiling.

Love that S-10, that is the best vehicle there. I think I would still try to fix that exhaust with maybe a flex tube for a temp exhaust. I know you said it was cut up, but cut the bad part out and put a muffler in it.

I hope you guys know this and I'm pretty sure you do but just incase you don't... Automatic transmissions do not pump fluid in park so, If you have a vehicle that has been sitting a while i highly recommend before you try and move it forward or backwards just pop it into neutral and pump fluid throughout the trans and converter before attempting to move it. Merry New Years and Happy Christmas ✌

@@aslant9246 Well, Technically any time the converter is spinning it's turning the pump. I've been doing ''revivals'' since the mid 80's because my father was always dragging old dodge trucks home. We also owned a body shop and flipped lot's of vehicles and i now run my own shop as a private dealer of classic and specialty vehicles. Anyway, my point is anytime I've tried moving a vehicle that has been sitting i pop it into N give it a couple stabs on the skinny pedal to build line pressure without stressing the clutches and it has helped out

That Park Avenue that’s burning coolant is most likely a bad intake. Those 3.8 intakes are plastic and they have an extremely high failure rate. I’ve done many. Other than that those engines are indestructible.

When my parents were shopping for a new car in 1992 they were pretty set on getting a Buick. They ended up with a Century Special with crank windows but power locks, four cylinder engine (Iron Duke with a cartridge filter in the CENTER of the OIL PAN). But I liked the LeSabre in the showroom better. It was green on tan like the one that had no cat. Of course it was priced a few grand higher than the 4-banger Century, but it would have been the better car for sure. I think they gave it to my sister who got a couple more years out of it before it wasn't worth fixing.

First off merry Christmas to you,Mook and the rest of the JYD crew. The Russian space pencil story. Bit of an urban legend. Pilot Pen did the R&D so the only cost to NASA was for the pens themselves. Primarily the reason for the pen over pencil is after the Apollo 1 fire several steps were taken to prevent any possible ignition sources primarily dumping the pure O2 cabin life support but in the case of the pencil concern was the graphite and graphite dust and bits from writing or sharpening coming to rest in electrical switches and components. Graphite while not all that flammable is conductive and concern was graphite bits in zero G coming to rest in an electrical connection and causing a potential fire starting electrical spark.

@Junkyard Digs, the Buick Park Ave starting at 9:03 might not be a head gasket. The 3800 has a plastic upper intake and the EGR goes into that plastic intake. The heat from the EGR can warp the intake which allows coolant to leak into the intake.

the 3100/3400 gm v6s had a intake gasket problem as well, all the way up into the mid 00's. dexcool ate the gasket between the coolant passage and intake port and it would burn coolant like crazy. thankfully not a major pita to fix, but no fun either. im not a big gm guy, but they did a lot of neato shit in the 90s.

He had to have a small fortune in equipment and cars just lying around. Unless you are Jay Leno and can afford a giant warehouse and your own shop and staff you don't wanna have that many cars.
