Fix Davinci Resolve Crashing When Rendering A Fusion Comp (use render cache)

It's been over a year since this video was made, yet the same issue still occurs to this day. This is just a temporary fix that slows down the overall workflow. Blackmagic need to do fix this asap, because for someone who tried switching from Premiere Pro to DR, this makes me just want to go back.

You are a God, this changed my life, I had reset my PC, reinstalled, updated everything, stripped it back to super basic settings, only using built-in fusion titles and still STILL I couldn't get it to render. Until I watched this video, please take your seat in Heaven because you deserve it.

Thank you! This fixed my problem! For some reason DR 17.3 kept crashing during render. It was doing this odd thing where it would hit a more intense section of composition, and then my cpu and gpu load would drop super low. Then the render would inch along for a while before finally crashing. No clue why, and I suspect there is some issue there, but this got around it! Many thanks!

Thank you - this solved my problem - My project would export half of the title I used from Davinci templates - letters were shown but moving lines not - this fixed it.

This sadly did not fix my crashes and bluescreens while rendering but I did find ram setting in davinci's options, changing it to less than all my ram seems to have solved my issue.

Wait what exactly did you do? How can you tell where it crashed? I don't understand anything you showed or how to fix it. I feel like this video is assuming I know or have done things that I don't. :(

I AM DESPERATE. I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH DAVINCI AND DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG!! I tried to contact the Davinci support and have no answer. I was editing the video and when was time to render the app just close itself and. I tried to render and it doesn't work. With Quick Export it Exports the files but are impossible to open and also IMPOSSIBLE to upload on KZbin. Meanwhile all the savings of the cache and backups double themselves and suddenly occupy all my computer memory and I formatted it twice!! Help me please I'm getting crazy!!!

Great vid, but if we use render cash on export, wouldn't be affected colour grading we did?

I hoped your video would work for me, but I already use Render Cache. I wait until my timeline is completely blue and then I go to render my video. For whatever reason, DR still crashes at one specific fusion transition. The funny thing is, I can play through the timeline just fine (and Render Cache uses DNxHR HQ files), but exporting the video always fails at the same point.

I'm having a similar issue. When I try to render my project, it just stops when it gets to a fusion title. It doesn't crash, it just stops, I can't even cancel the render, I have to close DaVinci. Any idea of what is going on?

hello i had the same issue too all i did was put a blank text on top of the clip in question that refused to render after that i rendered it and it seemed to work

Nearly 3 years on and this bug remains and unfixed in DR18. The same workaround applies though.

While Resolve doesn't crash for me, it always aborts on the last clip with some GPU error (mostly 77). It's a clip that has a tracked fusion text. The clip right before this one has the a tracked text too and renders fine. Resolve really is a mystery to me; sometimes I get GPU errors when just working on the timeline (I'm beginning to suspect NVIDIA's drivers are to blame). More importantly though, your fix solved my problem. Thanks!

You may be right about the drivers. Go directly to NVIDIA's site, click on the Drivers menu option and put in your system information. Download the latest driver for your configuration. This stopped my GPU error (but did not stop the crashing problem).

Well, who doesn't do this for his drivers? At some point I found a studio driver that worked well for me and am mostly sticking to it. Resolve really loves GPU memory, and 6GB on a 2K timeline with 4K footage is just not enough in my experience. I'm looking into getting a GPU with 12GB of VRAM as I've observed around 10GB of usage in my workflow. Especially with Fusion I also saw a ton of data being dumped into the shared GPU memory, making Resolve easily use about 24GB of RAM which filled my 32GB to the brim.

Had a few crashes on my last video and this would have been perfect. I ended up just using manually caching all the merge nodes in the fusion comp, but this way looks like much less clicks. Cheers!

Also if you’re using h264 and h265 in the same project, remember to render the 265 separately and bring back in as 264 clips. Hours I sat there like a dummy watching the drone footage crash🤤

hmm, I've never had that problem with my h265 footage. If you're going to transcode do something cool like prores, dnxhd or cineform.
