Great advice for everyone. I have been using Slime for 4 or 5 years now or longer in my lawn tractor. Works great. Finally got tired every time I went to use my wheelbarrow, lawn cart and tractor I needed to pump a tire or two up with air. The wheel barrow and lawn cart are always stored outside and of course the tires dry rot quicker. Pump in some Slime and spin the tires around or drive them around and you are good to go. Was starting to have problems with the front tires on my now 17 year old lawn tractor stored inside. I even tried to find the leak in the right front tire more then once by filling it with air and placing it in a tire and wheel dunk tank I use for car tires and could not find the leak no matter what I did. Put some Slime in those front tires and rarely add air to them anymore. The money you save from not having to buy new tires not really needed and the headache of dealing with flat tires more then pays for the little bit of Slime it takes to fix the problem. Haven't tried the no-name product being I haven't needed to buy anymore to fix anything. I purchased mine in the 1 gallon container. Sixtyfiveford has some of the best videos on You Tube.

Thank you for the great video. I have a riding mower I haven't used in "forever" and the central Florida elements have really taken a toll on the tires and they are all flat/cracked. The local mower repair place wanted to charge $20 per tire to "fix" them so they could even roll the mower onto their trailer for the other repairs I am not comfortable nor equipped to do. Yesterday I bought I giant jug of Slime at Harbor Freight and now have much greater confidence to tackle the four tires thanks to your video. Thank you!

I've been making my own slime for several years. It's very simple and cheap. You mix corn starch in cool water with a half cup of black pepper per gallon of mix. Boil the solution until it's thickened. Mix the corn starch heavy so it's thicker when cooled down than is usable then thin it with antifreeze. The antifreeze keeps it from freezing "obviously" but also helps protect against rust. The black pepper is the secret ingredient that actually works as the sealer. If not for the pepper flakes the solution would just ooz out of the hole or cracks. If you had the time you could probably grind rubber into small flakes to take the place of the pepper flakes. I opened a bottle that was over 2 years old last week and put in our wood splitter. It looked gross after sitting that long but after shaking it up it went in the tire with no trouble and worked great. Also a 2 litter bottle with a hole drilled in the cap just a little smaller than the valve stem will screw on to the stem and makes it simple to fill the tire by squeezing.

I bought a plastic bottle of this stuff that was suppose to be especially for motorcycle tires and I had brand new Michelin tires installed on my big Kawasaki Concours sport/touring bike. I got it home and placed the slime stuff in both front and rear tires. After I rode the bike and the tires got really heated up hot this stuff equalized inside of the tires and I have absolutely no shake, shimmy, unbalanced feeling and I could let go of the handlebars and the bike tracked straight as an arrow. The tires have almost 25,000 miles on them and they actually do not look bad at all. It even helped with the wear and the tires are very evenly worn. I have pulled screws, wire, nails, wood and other kinds of stuff out of the tread and never lost any air at all in either tire. All I did was pulled whatever was stuck in the tire out of it and the hole just healed itself. This stuff works really well.

I just broke the bead on one side. Then poured in about a quart of old latex paint. Aired the tire up and mowed the lawn. I left white marks for a few minutes, I did stop and air up the tire when it looked low. By the time I mowed an acre, the leak stopped. I never added air for two years afterward. I've also taken the tire off and painted the inside with latex paint. Put grease on the bead, and remounted it. No leaks, lasted for years. What else can you do with Old latex paint that has a skin on top???

My brother got a piece of wire (piece of radial steel belt or something) in the sidewall of my mower tire so I bought this stuff and put it in all 4 since I was doing it anyway but I put the recommended jug per tire. Just the other day I pulled the mower out again to use it and discovered my brother got a roofing nail in the tire. All I did was pull the nail and immediately take off mowing and the tire sealed itself just like the slime stuff intended. Glad I have it there for future use, if I ever have to buy new tires I think I'll fill them with it too as a precaution for when I need it.

Super glue bonds rubber EXCEPTIONALLY well! I did this to the same exact tractor in the video. We glued the outer casing back together with super glue, then filled with the green slime.Still holding air after 4 years. To hold and press the outer casing together while gluing, used the tip of a screw driver, not your finger. Baking soda also solidifies the super glue instantly.
@ramchillarege16582 жыл бұрын
Do you do the slime first, so that it has a chance to seep through first? Then super glue? The other way around, it may not establish a flow of the slime through the interior cracks, right?
@Joeak742 жыл бұрын
@@ramchillarege1658 I super glued EVERYTHING first. If the surfaces for the glue is dirty, clean with carb cleaner, etc and let evaporate till dry. Hitting the tire with a heat gun will also make the rubber pliable and easy to work with. Remember that super glue can be dusted with baking soda to solidify instantly! The glue is acid based. The baking soda neutralizes the glue. Happy Thanksgiving!
@ramchillarege16582 жыл бұрын
@@Joeak74 Thanks for the clarity. There seem to be multiple brands of super glue. Gorilla, Scotch (chepaer) are they all good on rubber? I was thinking of just hitting it with an electric heat gun, or a turbo air/propane torch (broad flame) lightly to vulcanize it until I ran into this thread. But, like your approach beter.
@Joeak742 жыл бұрын
@@ramchillarege1658 I should have clarified... The "Gel" version of super glue is TERRIBLE for everything. Use the regular old "thin, watery super glue. I use the Harbor freight super glue in the little tubes. The tire carcass was still in good shape, it was just that the outer casing (tire rubber) was split, de-laminated, and cracked. I could physically push a welding rod through the tire. It was that ventilated. I said the hell with it, and figured I would give it a chance, and it worked. And it worked well.

A cheap inner tube is the better fix, it'll last until the tread is worn out or the sides rot completely away. Harbor Freight has them fairly cheap and their 18" tube fits most small lawn tractors. I generally install a tube, then fill the tube with washer fluid for ballast and added weight.

Mr. 65. Hello. I came across a recipe cor this stuff that I've used around the homestead for many years. You simply bring a gallon or so of water to a boil with first stirring in some corn starch and a good handfull of black ground pepper "corse and fine ground mixed would be great" Then add some antifreeze before it quits boiling. To put in the tire i make a pumper with a gallon glass pickle jar with 2 holes drilled in the metal lid. One hole you put a valve stem in and tbe other a piece of 1/4 inch ID. clear rubber hose and let it go to the bottom of tbe jar. Put the 1/4 inch hose over the open valve stem on the wheel of the tire you're fixing and add air to the valve on top of the gallon jar witb the homemade sludge in it. It will quickly pump into your flat tire. Its really not the safest method and wrapping the gallon jar with good ducting tape would help because the pressure could explode the jar. for a quicky I've also just mixed black pepper with antifreeze. Both front tires on my big tractor leaked air and they were my first fix with this solution and I've Never added air since and that was many years ago.
@sixtyfiveford8 жыл бұрын
I've heard of similar recipes but really no long term results. Like you said, Drag Strip rubber would be the right size. The only other ingredient that I've read about is cotton fiber. I suspect simple dryer lint would suffice for that.

When I moved some how my lawnmower tractor got a gash in the side wall. And by some how I mean I most likely jacked it up getting it in or out. Anyways all i could find was gorilla glue. So I squeezed it in and filled up the tire so I could get it out of the truck. It worked better than I expected and went from a tire that would go flat in 1 minute to a tire that would go flat in a day. Someday i will open it up and patch it until then I just fill it up before I need it.

I used super glue on mine too. The sidewall was cracked. It glued the cracks and stopped 95% of the leaks. The problem I had after that was the tire kept cracking. I glued it several more times. Then I dumped about a cup of sealant in the tire and laid it on its side. Then spun it a few times, so the slime laid on the cracks. After about 15 minutes I flipped it over so the other side was coated. That was about 4 months ago and the tire is holding air. Tubes are half the price of a tire and rim. Hard to find too.

I'd forgotten about using slime on anything other than bicycle tires. Thanks for the reminder and the tip that it only takes enough to stop the leak, which can be a lot less than the whole bottle.

I laughed watching you drive the mower off the trailer ... only because I have to do the same. Ione buy that stuff often to worry about the cost and the first time I tried to skimp, i was a failure so when I added more, I just went to the suggested amount; this was on my chipper/shredder tire.

Prior to adding gel, you could rotate the wheel so the damaged area was at the bottom, thus having the bulk of the repair gel at the hole in the tire.

so you said the fix a flat stuff is junk? will it help me to have one with me in my vehicle just in case. im a commuter and i travel long distances. or would you recommend that slime stuff or neither would really work in a car?
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
ThePetra42139 The Fix A Flat is a 2 in one; air compressor and light duty sealant. It will work in a pinch but is meant only to get you to the nearest service station. If your tire is flat it will give it just enough air to safely roll. Tire shops are extremely rude about car tires they find with this stuff in it and will berate you. If you get a fair amount of flats the tire Slime stuff I use the in the video will instantly plug a nail hole so you loose no air. It works great as a preventative measure where the Fix a Flat is merely a bandage.

Tubes are pretty cheap too. And always work
@djohnson36785 жыл бұрын
@ lucky red - the tube wont do you any good when the tire carcass is rotted. that just makes a full blown open season on the tube. so why work yourself to death replacing or repairing a tube when you can get another tire.
@luckyred18185 жыл бұрын
@@djohnson3678 guess it depends whos doing the work, and on what. Just did a rotted tractor tire/tube on a ford 4000 yesterday-- the tire is 5 foot tall and $500 per. Tube was $45. One of about 20 i did in last couple years. Always loved working on a rim/tire someone filled with goooo. Really fun. Guess u know better than me. Lol
@djohnson36785 жыл бұрын
LOL , very funny . ever have the tire while it is off [ with no tube ] and use a fence wire to locate the hole ( of course before then you would have to see the liquid flowing from it to locate it first ) , then scrub the inner tire to get that slick good off it, then patch the hole? did one once, it was alot of work [ Massey Ferguson ] , used the electric wire to locate the hole, then patched it, also patched the inner tube as well. was to much of a job.
@bodeine4547 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video! Do you know how well this would work (or not) in a tire with inner tube?
@sixtyfiveford7 жыл бұрын
This stuff doesn't work great in an inner-tube in my experience. In those situations I either remove the inner tube and put sealant in or repair the tube and reinsert it.

sixtyfiveford I'll keep that in mind, thank you!

I have an old forklift with tubes that have nail holes.... works great. Like any stop leak, it has to reach the leaks to work. This is like Fix-A-Flat on steroids.

can i trust this on a dirt bbike tire? or will the seal bust under high pressure such as jumps and trail rides?

brett pingel Yes it will. I've used it on ATV tires and car tires. Most dirt bikes I seen have tubes through and generally just need a patch.

I have opened up some wheels (unmounted the tires) on some that had had in their past (I believe that green colored brand?? you show? not sure if same brand, but similar color...) and found serious rust/corrosion issues. Depending on your application? that may or may not be a concern. I have even seen new bicycle tubes for sale that advertise as having come with (and their mentioned name is that same brand name as that green brand shown) already in the tubes when you buy them. This is okay on cheap or "end of it's lifespan" equipment, I suppose, but you may not want the mess and corrosion risk on your quality high end alloy bike rims and tires and similar? Just go for a new tube or a conventional patch on your puncture. My buddy fixed his SUV Samurai slow car tire leaking using the (green product) in his chromed steel tubeless auto wheel rim, against my advice... I only hope that years from now, when he goes to get new tires, that his wheel rim is not rusty junk and forcing him to buy a whole new wheel set (because he only has that set of four...).
@sixtyfiveford8 жыл бұрын
Tire Slime(Green) tire sealant all has anti corrosion properties and would actually clean rust off. Corrosion happens in a lot of wheels and creates bead leaks. People put "Slime" in afterwards to seal the leaking bead. It fixes the issue, doesn't cause it. I've pulled apart 8 year old tires/steel rims I've ran this in and there is absolutely no signs of corrosion.
@GT-fb8nv10 жыл бұрын
Does it work as well with tube tires? Or does it seem to work better with tubeless tires? Thanks

Have you ever tried latex paint and letting it dry inside the tire one layer at a time, requires dismount but most of the time old latex paint is free.

I've heard of people doing this with decent results. I would suspect the latex would peel off the inside from flexing after a year or so?

Slime will work sometimes if using the proper amount on the label. If I find a gallon for $10 at a closeout store, I'm going to try 2x the amount. I have so many leaky tires, Slime is too expensive - especially when having to use 2x to be sure.
@sixtyfiveford3 жыл бұрын
Dilute it with windshield washer fluid by 25-50%. That helps it flow around the tire much better.

I swear by that slime stuff. Ive even fixed dry rot cracks in the side walls of wheel barrow type tires that are on my lawn tractor trailer. I pulled the cotter pins took the wheels put in the amount of slime you use I find the same thing. Then I hold the wheel on it side an move it around to get the slime to go in all of the cracks. I do it on both sides then I put in a little more slime. Put the wheels back on and drive it around and the tires held for a couple years :-)
