Fix File Is Too Large for Destination File System
The reason why this problem happens is one of the files you want to transfer is larger than 4 GB and your USB flash drive is using the FAT32 file system, the maximum file size is 4GB for FAT32 file system. I will show you how to convert FAT32 to NTFS without data loss.

I know about this problem, so I used a new external and changed it before use. Now that one has all the " bigger " ones on it. From now on I rather change a external BEFORE I use it. I did not checked if that also works with a USB stick. But that would be interesting to know if u run into the same problems using a USB

Wow, I can't believe you can change the file system without formatting and deleting data. Presumably because the file system allocation is just in the MBR and not actually spread over the whole disk/partition as one would imagine. Great tip and tool thank you sir. :) I wouldn't be surprised if larger channels like Linus TT and Jayztwocents are jealous of your great tech tips. :)

It's one way only, not both ways, but if you only need to go from Fat32 to NTFS without losing data, it's built-in to Windows. Open a command prompt with administrative permissions then type: convert e: /FS:NTFS followed by Enter Where "e" is the drive letter of your drive.

Most modern HD TV's only read & play FAT32 format USB files. Perhaps that's why they've switched to video format x265 which has better than 2 times compression on x264 without losing quality. NTFS format may be unreadable on many modern HD TV's. Thanks for the neat way of converting formats! NIUBI partition editor free also converts NTFS to FAT32, but not the other way around.

My WD MyBook (8Tb) reports itself as "exFAT" and not NTFS. This Aeomi prog doesn't recognize it as either. There is a ton of stuff on it too. So a Format seems the only way to change it to NTFS. Not able to move it elsewhere do to restrictions in capacity elsewhere.

This problem is why I format new SD cards, thumbdrives and hard drives to NTFS right when I get them, except ones that need to be usable in older devices or special devices like cameras. Some drives also need to have the original partitions removed and one large partition created instead, to make them work like other drives. And I have no interest to try to learn how to use the included "super valuable" backup or other software that's probably some crippled version of a proper product, and that would be completely different coming with every drive. However, sometimes NTFS gives hard time with rights to access files; when I tried to use some restrictions, it went too restrictive (probably I just messed up something when setting the file permissions). That's why at one point I gave up the idea about restrictions, and tried to use exFAT. But it turned out it had some limitations: some files I had, had some metadata that could only be stored with NTFS, and would be lost when storing on exFAT. So I'm back to just using NTFS, and deal permission problems when they appear -- through linux if necessary.

Shame that NTFS still (at least I think?) requires licensing from Microsoft for other devices to use. We still need a fully standardised open-source filesystem to be adopted so that we can finally see the back of FAT filesystems. Nice to see a tool that will do NTFS back to FAT32 as well, I've only seen FAT32 to NTFS before with no going back.

Thank you Brian with this new video, so useful like all others. Just a question: how do you solve the problem with all these keys or SSDs delivered in exFat? The pros are they can be read/write on Mac and PC, the cons are you often cope with partition problems that suddenly become “RAW” and your only solution appears to be to do a long, very long data recovery. What do you think? Regards.

I've recently hit a similar issue with a repository (for a game I was testing), the only thing is that All of my drives are NTFS. Unfortunately the problem could only be solved by deleting the 120Gb repository setting up a new one re-downloading the (140Gb) repository and (ugh) setting up Unity and decompressing it (ugh 4x) for it to be accessible. Edit: 72Hours even with a business broadband connection.

Yeah, almost check the file system beforehand and against which other devices will be using it. For instance, transfer video files to an external drive to be connected to another device, that only accepts FAT32 will need another solution.

I streamed video to file on my fat32 external drive: in excess of 4G. The file is there and complete. I can open and edit, BUT I can't copy it anywhere; I can't even delete it. For my purposes I compressed the file to less than 4G and that file will copy over. My operating system is Lubuntu.
