If the fish eyes a shallow and not too deep 600. If their deep 400 but do not sand all the way thru the clear. If you think your close to sanding thru then don't try and sand the fisheyes totally out before you re- clear

Im Bobby from Fort Worth Texas, I'm not new. I have a 1970 Roadrunner that is in the sanding phase. Its a complete car, minus the paint 😂 I also have a 1989 CRX but it has paint and alittle rust. What causes fish eyes, cracking, and sinking spots?
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 2 жыл бұрын
Fisheyes are cause by some tyor of contamination that is either cleared over ir lands on the clear. Silicone like what's in wheel dressing or armor all. Cracking can be caused by improper mixed primer or paint, or maybe weather

is the initial sanding required? cant you just dab the clear and wetsand the whole area? since the fisheye itself is unable to be sanded, the clear wont have a bite.. unless its biting the edges of the crater? Can you help me out on that part?
@GarageNoise

Yes the intial sanding is for adhesion. You could dab it on if you catch it before the clear fully cures.

Hey Brian awesome videos brother!..I have a question, I painted a fender last week at night at around 65 degrees with moderate to high humidity (which I know is a big no-no ) which I do about half the time and never really had a problem up until today, a week later, I can still leave a slight finger nail mark on an inconspicuous spot. I’m using a slow hardener and letting is flash 15 minutes between coats which is 5 minutes more than it calls for since it was cold.. How would I fix this?..will it still harden up?..do I have to sand it back down a clear again?.. It’s a shame too since it laid out like glass 😪..thanks Brian
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 2 жыл бұрын
This is Chris at Garage Noise. Brian is Paint Society lol. All good I'll answer your question. How many days has it been? You said last week it should be cured by now. It sounds like it is curing , I would give it a week it should cure up. If not you would have to strip it down and repaint. Honestly if it's been a week it seems to me your mix was off.

@@GarageNoise you absolutely right sorry Chris. I follow both of you guys and I think I called Brian Chris as well 😂.. Yes it’s been a week today. Everyday I press it with my fingernail and gets harder to make a mark ..I thought the same that I might have mixed it incorrectly but I cleared some headlights with the same mix and those hardened correctly…

Nice job. I clear coat my driver side fender. At the first coat the clear cracked at the corner near the mirror what can cause that?

That sounds like a chemical reaction, when you say cracked is it more like a wrinkle. A chemical reaction usually happens when applying base coat tho.

Hope you’re not using fisheye eliminator to much, I’ve had issue and finally got BASF tech to my small shop, eliminator has silicone in it and it infects your garage and is very hard to get out of shop, start cleaning shop with ammonia and spray straight ammonia on floor before painting

@GarageNoise

Sand and re coat, fisheyes in base coat may be caused by applying it to wet on the first coat. 9 times out of 10 if you you apply less paint on the first coat you won't get them. Hope this helps appreciate the comment and support!

For the foam 2000# , i tried using by hand and it leaves alot of swirl marks. I had a hard time polishing it out even i refine to 3000#. Perhaps im using a DA polisher and not a rotary. Is rotary really needed to polish out sanding mark?
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 2 жыл бұрын
Probably what's happening is you clear is not fully cure that will make it hard to get some scratches buffed out. It's ok to color sand and buff the next day but if you wait 4 days that's ideal. You may have had a particle of trash under you sand paper that was causing some scratching. I would wetsand over the scratch again with 2000 make sure it's clear then repeat the remaining steps. Hope this helps thank's for watching
@ntonytay
@ntonytay 2 жыл бұрын
@@GarageNoise thanks so much for the input. Previously i contacted the paint support and they said its always ok to sand the next day. However on my later paint job, i never sand by hand anymore. I'll just use a mini da sander and sand it which is far easier to polish the scratch rather than those swirl marks which caused by hand sanding. Ive seen alot of bodyshop using rotary polishers to cut, so i might be getting a rotary polishers soon to try out.
