Fix Ford Mondeo Cruise Control Intermittent Fault

Step by step instruction to do a deep clean of the cruise control buttons
where the button contacts cause the intermittent fault of the cruise control of Ford Mondeo MK3/MK4.

Thanks for this. I fixed my cruise control issues by following these great instructions/video. Hardest part for me was getting the airbag to release! Trial and error using different length screwdrivers to get enough leverage on the spring wire to move beyond its catch. If like me you have the keyless entry and start system you will have to release the air bag from its catches with the battery still connected, because if you disconnect the battery first, the steering lock will be engaged and there is no way to then move the steering wheel into the required positions. I followed this procedure because of keyless entry/start and turned engine on and off as a precaution: 1. Remove horn fuse in engine bay (prevents annoying the neighbours when you're trying to get airbag off!!) 2. Start engine and turn steering wheel as described in video. 3. Turn off engine and release 1st spring wire. 4. Start engine and turn steering wheel to opposite side. 5. Turn off engine and release 2nd spring wire. 6. Once airbag has released from both spring wires, turn engine on and return wheel to centre. DO NOT UNPLUG THE CONNECTORS. 7. Now turn off engine and leave car ( do not lock it!) with everything switched off for 5 minutes BEFORE disconnecting the battery. 8. Disconnect battery, wait 15-20 mins, remove the airbag connectors etc and follow the rest of the video. I hope this helps👍

Great instructions and fixed the problem perfectly!!! I was able to undo the 4 T20 from the rear of the steering wheel with a dumpy screwdriver so didn't need to remove the steering wheel. one point of caution, some contact cleaners can cause the rubber to expand and warp (this happened to me with Servisol Super 10) so be sure to spray it onto the cotton bud not the rubber. I've got some issues with the cruise control as well. Always manifests during warmer (hot) weather, mainly European summer. However, it's a bit colder now, but still no show, so I'll try this. You were able to take those units out without too much trouble? Can you take them out all the way and take them inside the house? I've used Griffon spray, maybe that warped the rubber as well. How did you fix the rubber issue?

@@hensen5138 yes you can remove the switch units from the steering wheel and then take them inside to do the rest of the work, with the warped rubber, I managed to push it all back into place well enough that the contractors were in the correct place, it took some time and patience but it worked eventually, good luck with it all 👍

@@hensen5138 Yes, I followed the instructions on the video to release the airbag, after leaving the battery disconnected for around 20 minutes, once the airbag/horn cover was removed then I unscrewed the 4 t20 torq screws, you can feel the 4 holes for these at the back of the steering wheel, once they are out you should be able to remove the 2 switch modules

Thanks for this great video, I'll give this a go when I pluck up courage. I''ve been repairing this intermittent fault for a while by spraying contact cleaner through the 4 little holes on each side under the switches, but that's stopped curing the problem now, so I'll have to give this a go, probably.

Did you get a fix? I have the same thing. Contact spray worked for a while, but the failure is back.
