I always learn something useful from you; thank you; that is a very creative solution. For those who decided to try and replace the whole catch they can first draw a trace with a very fine pencil lead around the catch housing onto the painted jamb before disturbing the allen screws/bolts on the original catch. However it is still not a perfect method to insure realignment because the adjustments are often just six thou (0.1524mm) or so in any direction between working good and working not so good and such a small distance is of course hard to see with the eye.
@straybenzes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, the pencil line does help, but you are so correct. These little screws are tightened very much and even a small misalignment causes all sorts of issues. Good luck!
@policedog40303 жыл бұрын
@@straybenzes Makes me wonder how they did it at the factory; all that adjusting by trial and error from the outside by opening and closing the door multiple times seems too fiddly for mass production. I do notice with the door panel off on the W126 there is a hole just big enough to reach a hand in there to get at the back of the latch. Do you think the factory workers could have adjusted the catch (not the latch) from the inside before putting the door panel on? In other words by adjusting and tightening the catch with the door shut by reaching an allen wrench through that hole? Next time I watch the Sindelfingen assembly plant footage on youtube I'll look for that and report back!

@@straybenzes I am reminded of the jigs that are used to re-cone audio speakers, where any mis-alignment across the entire excursion of the moving coil would make for distortion - so they do use some tool that holds the cone in place and sets the gap between the speaker magnet and the coil on the speaker cone. Compared to the speaker cone the door to striker is I think just two dimensions - up/down and left/right but maybe my mental map is wrong..

Does it work for C200 W202 2000? Been having closing the passenger door for years.. slam like crazy multiple times
@straybenzes8 ай бұрын
It is not the same striker but it is a similar issue. Yours has a wedge shape and there is a relatively large rectangular opening where the door latch goes as you close the door. There is also a rubber/plastic part that if it is not there or is damaged will lead to you having to slam your door. Good luck!
@7425park2 жыл бұрын
I am confused on the procedure. Exactly where do you place the zip tie piece and when do you apply the rivet? Do you just align the two holes (zip tie and striker bracket) and rivet from the outside?. Then does the plastic engage the closing door or the rivet engage the closing door?
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
You need to bend the zip tie piece in half. The one end goes up in the cavity where the catch will eventually go (that is actually the part that helps latch the lock correctly). The other side of that piece you pre drill the rivet hole. Place the rivet into the zip tie piece and install in the round hole under the striker. Hoping this will help you.
@7425park2 жыл бұрын
@@straybenzes Lets see here...The zip tie is bent in 1/2. On the bottom side of the latch housing, the rivet goes through the 3/32" zip tie hole, continuing through the adjoining latch housing hole and fastened at this point. This fastens one end of the zip tie. But what is the orientation of the zip tie loose end? I suppose that the folded crease faces outboard,(away from passenger compartment) and the loose end faces inboard (toward passenger compartment)? So this horizontal U shaped plastic is then captured by the rivet and tucked under the large rubber edge insert?
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын

This video needs to be redone with the exact size pop rivet and length, 3/32 what ? short or long rivet? What length on the zip tie is the hole drilled? Actually show where the zip tie goes. Is it just riveted on there and then what is it bent up or what? You didn’t show how to do the procedure. It’s not that straight forward. There are critical details to make this work or else it will fail.
