This is exactly the issue I had. THANK YOU! I thought the new steering wheel I was sent was made wrong 🤣

i know that this is in the wrong section .but i looked at your older videos and could not find the right one. i have a 1967 mustang coupe. i have a round what i think is a vac. canister. there are two metal vac. lines coming off of it and a small tab with two bolts and nuts.where do the vac. lines go to, and where does the vac. canister go.? any help with this would be great.
@AutoRestoMod7 жыл бұрын
The canister is for either a tilt-away steering column and/or air conditioning. The larger port on the can goes to manifold vacuum the smaller to the main vacuum lead on the A/C. goo.gl/images/X21GGA goo.gl/images/3xf3tq Note that the engine bay diagram does not show the same can, it shows the larger early can.

I have a 1966 ford thunderbird and it has a slide over feature, however it will not safely stay in park so the internal parts need rebuilding replacing. I have purchased the needed parts but have cotton stuck on the very first step....removing the horn button, I pushed in and turned counterclockwise and it gets somewhat lose but is still attached inside somewhere?

That should do the job. Not sure what would be causing it to not come out.

Just had to tug a little harder once it was lined up with the slot

That's the same rag joint and steering column my 1970 F100 has. Is that not the right coloum you're saying?
@AutoRestoMod7 жыл бұрын
No, the correct rag joint is not available for the '67-'72 truck. We had to use a rag joint from a later truck. the later joint will bolt up but is not correct.

I thought the length (of the video) was fine. Have you measured the rim blow depth against a '71/'72 F100 factory steering wheel? The original may sink down more around the top of the column, creating a smaller gap. I dunno.
@AutoRestoMod7 жыл бұрын
The original wheel is long gone. I plan to hit a local yard that has some F100s and check the wheel as well as snag the canceling cam for the turn signals. Tired of looking like an old man who leaves his turn signal on. TECHNICALLY a 1966 Mutang wheel should fit too.

Ooo make a video about the turn signal repair. Because one of my turn signals (can't remember if it's left or right) stays on. and one works properly. If I can fix it without replacing the whole switch & wires that would be great.

There are two wedge collars, one on the top and one on bottom. You showed the bottom collar (white plastic). There's a metal split ring type collar on the top. The steering shaft is basically a straight round bar. If you pull these two collars away from the top and bottom bearings you'll be able to "float" the shaft within the column. Get it where you what it and tap the collars back in place. This should fix the shaft in place. As the lower bearing starts to freeze up from contamination and lack of lubrication, the plastic collar becomes a wearing surface. You may need a new lower collar. Hope not, as you'll need to pull the column and remove the shaft (from the bottom) to replace this part. If you pull it apart, replace the lower bearing.
