I uninstalled IE from Win 10 and now half of my desktop icons are just blank white paper icons. I have cleared thumbnail cache via disc cleanup and via cmd prompt. I have also tried advanced system settings/performance-check/uncheck thumbnails instead of icons, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos!

I went though all these steps and i get this error message when i click to open a picture . . . what is wrong? it says " caller specified wait timed out before the operation completed because a host termination is queued" ????? i don's know what this means . . i hope you can help!!! I guess one i couldn't do that you suggested because the other thing i don't know how to run a command as an administrator???

If none of these methods work for you like myself then try and copy all of your images that don't show their corresponding thumbnails and paste all of them into a different drive/memory stick/portable hard drive and then copy and paste them back to the original location. This was the only thing that worked for me, hope it helps!

I had literally tried the same steps over and over again in these videos and this is what worked in the end. Just used an external hard drive, cut and paste them onto it and then plopped them back into my picture folder on my pc and BOOM there's the thumbnails! How strange but thanks for the this!!

I was doing everything in the video. Other videos I have watched also talked about the same methods as this video. Copying and pasting the pictures from an external drive worked. Thank you for the tip! I'm unsure why it does this though. Hopefully someone has an answer!

PERFECT! clicked on the windows button, typed folder options, then clicked view menu, then unchecked "always show icons, never thumbnails," and all images in my files were restored!

one mistake and it is very common. You DO NOT have to hit apply before hitting OK. Here is why. When you hit apply, you are telling windows to apply the changes you made but keep the current dialog box open. When you hit OK, you are also telling windows to apply the changes you made but to also go ahead and close the dialog box. Since you intend to close the dialog box anyway, you just have to click ok, with no need to click apply.

Second fix in the Disk Cleanup section fixed it for me, thanks a lot man, after (begrudgingly) switching to Win11 it was a massive pain in the arse to find any of my stuff and no other fix I tried had worked, even the CMD stuff, turns out to have been a simple checkbox, no clue why that was on by default, no clue who would prefer all the files to be completely impossible to be differentiated Appreciate it man

Good one Brian. When I had this problem, I went thru all these measures and still had problems. What affected the thumbnail generation was my media player itself ( I use MPC-media player from K-Lite). When I uninstalled and reinstalled - voila ! Back again ! Just a little head's up to the various things that can cause this problem. Thanx Mate

Same here, but Dropbox is what's causing the missing thumbnails on my machine. Have to cut every image and paste into new folder to generate the thumbnails then paste it back again. Which is fine for a folder or two, but I have thousands of folders, so that's not a good fix.

I think there is an issue with Onedrive...because all the files that are already in the cloud have the thumbnail visible.. the ones that show "error status" don't show the thumbnail.

Really good video Brian as it is long been a problem with my machines changing from thumbnails to icons after an update or just by chance so thanks so much for this fix(s)👍 Ok mate I have run all but the command prompt section with taskkill and I have a lot of thumbnails along the top of the picture collection and also a load of icons below that I have to click on to see the screenshot or picture that is stored there any ideas? Having this problem now. Went the same route as others. No can do. Every solution in this wonderful video didn't work for me. I'm simply tired of Windows for which I switched from macOS. Guess how I feel. Wonder if it's not time to go Linux.

Just go to options in the pc on the taskbar and go to view in the files and folder option just unchecked the always show icons. Never thumbnails ever think will be fine after that❤

I have this problem but only with .ts files. Those are video files transferred from a Google Pixel phone. It's driving me up the wall and I would never recommend getting a Google phone for this and other reasons. .mp4 from my Galaxy still displays fine but .ts files just give the generic VLC logo. I've tried everything but can't seem to fix it.

I have tried absolutely everything under the sun and nothing has brought my video thumbnails back. Picture thumbnails are fine. I have an up to date windows 11 laptop which is fine. I wish I had properly tried to fix this when I first noticed almost a year ago. I have installed lots of programs since then so if it's related to a program I installed then it's going to take an awful long time uninstalling everything in the hope it'll fix it. 😞

Will this also fix a missing hard drive? Have a system where C drive is no longer displayed in Windows. Drive shows up in Disk Management and can be access via CMD Prompt. But it never is displayed in Windows File Explorer.

I'm a little lost. Thumbnails do not show sticking out of folders. If I switch screen view to list then back to folder I see them. But if I open into one folder and come back out of there to parent folder, icons are back. What about that button in Folder Options That says "Apply to Folders" Anybody have any thoughts?
