Same for me. I'm a bi-phasic sleeper: sleep 3 hours, awake 3 hours, sleep 3 hours. I used to stress about being awake for those 3 hours. Then I figured, why not go with it. So, instead of lying in bed, I'll do a load of laundry, clean the kitchen, read a few pages of a book. When I start getting sleepy again, I go to bed, and I'm usually not tired in the morning now. Turns out my stressing about not being asleep was wearing me out so that I would wake up exhausted.

Finally just decided to get out of bed after waking up everyday and after a week I felt like I was dying 😅 BUT one night recently I went to bed and slept throughout the night. Im not anxious about it anymore, it is what it is. But i recently learned from my doctor that I likely have sleep apnea. It makes a lot of sense. If i can get a cpap I know it would increase my quality of life. And now I have these tools I was unaware of before. Even if the machine fixes most of my sleep problems I can refer back to this to keep improving my sleep efficiency. I've made so many positive choices for my mental health, and I am doing better than ever in that regard but through all of it I'm still so exhausted. Praying for the day I can feel well rested. I'll be unstoppable if I figure out how to sleep!

@@Reba24u over 10 years. Way before the FDA dropped the approved dose for women down to 5 mg. I’ve been fighting with the insurance company every year trying to protect my sleep because I have major depression and I lose my mind when I don’t get sleep. My husband, daughter and all my sisters have been trying to get me to stop taking it since my memory has been crap. Last night was the first night without it and it went great, but I don’t expect them too all that easy. I need help. It will be the second time I’ve gone off of it, but I’m much older now and much more depressed since the first time I stopped taking it. The doctor that put me on it retired 5 years ago and I’ve had to fire the last two psychiatrists. The first one was a moron, the other one threatened to not see me anymore if I didn’t take his advice and do DBT after I waited on a list for 6 months to see him. I was crushed, haven’t found a new doc since and now I’m stuck. Ugh. Dr. Scott has more than helped me these past 3 months. He’s helped me and all the people who love me.

@@princessleyla by taking as many things that make me sleepy as I can while still obeying the dose. Like only 50g of Benadryl, or only 10 mg of melatonin, a hemp delta 8 & 9 THC gummy (about 30mg), only my prescription dose of gabapentin (600mg). I do not drink alcohol or take any other recreational drugs. My doctor recommended Benedryl or melatonin, but the rebound from not taking the zolpidem cannot be overcome by one thing. If I don’t take many of the things that make me sleepy, it would be pretty much impossible for me to sleep. I’m fortunate that I don’t have sleep apnea. My method of getting off of zolpidem may be a great risk for someone else. I will stop taking the other meds as soon as I can. After I get over the virus I’m fighting, I will start increasing my activity during the day to try and wear myself out more. Cleaning my house in the new year will serve as my exercise. It will be a complicated process, but I’m ready to be brave and get better by using information from Dr. Scott to motivate me. Hopefully as I do more self help I will be able to stay off of zolpidem. Sorry it’s such a long answer. It’s very complicated.

A very rare good night is only waking briefly a few times. Almost invariably it's around 4-6 times or more. Because I don't work from disability, I've just resigned to sleep in till 9 or 10 or make up for it.

I've tried almost all of that. Some work for a night or two, then they don't. I'm trying to lower my caffeine intake, but it's hard when you have to be alert and the sleep isn't restorative. I'm down to 11/2 cups from 3 a day. When I wake up in the night, it's mind chatter almost immediately. I've tried the deep breathing and the muscle tensing and relaxing, too, but again, it doesn't always work.These are good tips for most people, though. 😊

@@probablypoetic8759 I hear you, unresolved trauma, anxiety and ruminating / catastrophic thinking can be a difficult hurdle to surpass and greatly affects sleep. Have you tried high potency (400mg) L-Theanine? Empty tummy morning and night. There are many other options to help you be alert but also calm apart from caffeine. Rhodiola, Creatine. L-Theanine is known to promote calmness and enhance focus. Liquid Iodine also increases alertness. Green tea has a much lower amount of caffeine 20-40mg, but enough to assist alertness, 1-2 cups before mid-day should have no discernable impact by the time it comes to going to sleep. Once you quit those coffees and become more caffeine sensitive the green tea will pack more punch.

That’s CBTI! This too has been outdated now. It does work for some but certainly not for those of us that have established changes in our neuro networks. Stress and fear play a huge role in sleep. Sleep is passive and our bodies know how to do it naturally but it’s our minds that get in the way. The more we research and obsess about sleep, the worse our sleep becomes. We need to train ourselves not to worry about not sleeping. We train ourselves out of being able to let go and fall asleep.

The magnesium and Ashwagandha might help, if you don't have bowel and stomach sensitivity. Be on guard if you do. Magnesium is very laxative. I've tried the supposedly non laxative forms and it gaves me the trots right away. Ashwagandha is hard on my gut, but I stuck it out for months. Just saw no improvement. This sounds complicated but there might be hope for some. I hope you won't take offense but I'm so tired I can't fight my way out of a paper bag. My mind started zoning out when you were talking about all that's involved.

Had insomnia for years. Sleep hygiene does help and "reading" a really boring book, like a bible, helps me slow my brain down and eventually fall asleep after about 20 min. I'm an atheist but kept a bible for this. Any boring book may work.also get off the phone or screens and daily exercise is critical. Getting out of bed when i cant sleep and startung over helps and takung orexin inhibitor, Dayvigo, really helped reset a sleep cycle for me.

My daughter, now grown, was like that. We figured out eventually that she has a significant anxiety disorder, and essentially has adrenaline in her system ALL THE TIME. Never slept. Metamucil, several doses daily, will soak up the adrenaline in the liver, as will soluble fiber like oatmeal and legumes. Magnesium was huge as well. There is a product called Natural Calm, a powder, that is great for kids.
@saintejeannedarc946010 ай бұрын
@@visualapologetics4891 That does sound like some helpful practical advice. Do you believe in God and the spiritual realm? Not everyone does, but it does seem like the root of the problem. Yes, she certainly has an anxiety/adrenaline disorder. Why would an innocent child, unless she'd had significant trauma, just be born w/ this? That is not any kind of implication on you as parents, or looking to pry into your family life. Just that there has be a root cause, beyond the symptoms.

I’m 71 and fall asleep in minutes when I go to bed at 10.30pm but wake up 2 to 3 hours later and can’t get back to sleep for at least an hour and a half. Despite meditation, body scans, breathing exercises etc and I always get up at 5am to walk my dog. I never go back to bed. Needless to say I’ve read a watched a ton of stuff about sleeping and do have good sleep hygiene but I can’t stay asleep. I’m not on any medication. Always feeling suicidal and I just want to sleep for ever. How can the sleep reset program help me?

I'm not sure, but your issues are less complex than some. It could be worth checking it out and doing the questionaire. it's lengthy, but the one week trial is a sliding scale from $9-$29, so no the pricey gimmick I was expecting.

Well, it sounds very interesting to me. I mostly wake up several times a night, with anywhere from 15 minutes to hours of being awake and struggling to return to sleep (for years). I'm assuming by doing this, your brain will stop thinking too much when you go to bed. (?) 🤪Thanks, Dr Scott. I will check out the app as well. 😊

Yep, me too. Over 7 years of this from hot flashes. Wake up usually 6 times or so a night. Sometimes get to fall back asleep quickly, sometimes up for hours. Nothing I've tried taking will keep me asleep all night. Maybe buy me a few hours, if I'm lucky.

I deal with insomnia as I learnt to to in multimodel pain therapies. dealing with chronical pain and joint inflamation, I ride the wave when it comes knowing it comes and goes, I spontaneously adapt to it, I do less to nothing one day, when I catch sleep I catch up. Unfortunately, they´re too s....to treat my diseases here as we don´t have chiropractic therapy no schools for that no trained doctors. I also escape my home city as on the country side it´s no loud noise as where I live and the long hikes make my sleepy. I also switch the morning appointments each 2 days, otherwise I wouldn´t manage to get up the following sleepless day at all, then I need to sleep out each 2, 3 day. I heard about this concept in clinic and I don´t lie on bed during the day. I guess in my case, it´s due to the legal fights, triggers or body pain
