Appreciate it. Saved me some money showing me how to do it myself.

I advise not to turn that knob counter clockwise. Speaking of metal stems, I had a GE once with bad knob. Replaced it and it did not last long. While working on it, my hand touched the timer motor. It seemed hot. I figure the timer motor was getting hot and the heat was transferred via the metal stem to the knob and caused the damage to the knob. GE’s are pretty well known for knobs going bad. I don’t care much for GE washers or dryers.

Things definitely aren’t made the way they used to be. Agree with the clockwise only. 💯

Stop using pliers to start your GE Hotpoint Dryer. If the knob is broken or the switch is broken, you can easily fix both.

Why did using pliers stop working as an option?

Eventually, the pliers will chew up the shaft that you have to turn- to make the dryer work. It’s not metal and whatever plastic it’s made from is pretty soft. 😉

Just a heads up on these.....the D-shaft is so tight on most of these timers, the knob fails. New knob? The D-shaft strips. New timer and knob? 50/50 crap shoot. These are infuriating. Bring back the metal D-shaft!

💯 Agreed!

i cannot tell you how many times the metal D shaft has literally saved my life. i would never use a D shaft made of inferior materials. Not again, anyway.
