The amount of information we hear about COVID on a daily basis can be pretty overwhelming. I feel that this episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy is one of the most important ones I’ve done on this topic because it’s an incredible resource for understanding how to prevent and treat COVID using a comprehensive systems approach. It’s about how to heal on the cellular level. My guest is someone who has had an immense impact on my own health and my career in Functional Medicine.
Dr. Leo Galland is one of the most incredible resources on COVID and long-COVID syndrome. He is a board-certified internist, practicing in New York City, is recognized as a world leader in Functional Medicine, and a pioneer in the study of intestinal permeability and the gut microbiome as they impact immune function and systemic health. Since the onset of the pandemic, Dr. Galland has devoted most of his time to research on COVID-19 and to the education of other health practitioners in understanding the complex biology of the disease. He has created quite a collection of recommendations for the prevention and treatment of COVID, including a series of videos on the long-COVID syndrome, intended for the general public and for health professionals.
This episode is brought to you by ButcherBox, Athletic Greens, and Joovv.
New members to ButcherBox can get a free turkey with their first box at butcherbox.com/farmacy.
Athletic Greens is offering my listeners 10 free travel packs of AG1 when you make your first purchase at athleticgreens.com/hyman.

So just because people are young and run 5 miles a day and go to the gym does not equate to being healthy. It really matters what they’re eating and how well/healthy their gut is

I bet you , every one of these persons that the covid killed were consuming mass quantities of wheat barley Ryan oats. The so-so evil gluten lectin protein. Along with the other lectin proteins are what's really destroying our guts. Yes chemical toxicity is also a very bad culprit. Heavy metals, glyphosate, with other herbicides and pesticides. Consuming foods that are non organic, or at least foods that haven't been sprayed with herbicides and pesticides and other chemicals will help. Most of our food grown commercially his weight of vitamins and minerals essential for good health. There's no gold in my backyard. That's why when people think they're getting nutritions because they eat particular food, does not mean you're getting the nutrition that they feel they are

True, but it does not explain why 50+ year old men with diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity etc. are significantly less likely to develop disabling long COVID symptoms that persist for months than physically active young girls with no previous health conditions in late teens, 20s and 30s. It is clearly an immune system difference. The highest risk demographic for Long COVID is identical to that of ME/CFS, POTS, chronic Lyme, post viral fatigue, Mast cell activation syndrome etc. Females to male 4:1 with young women of childbearing age most at risk.

I've been suffering from long-term effects from covid. Fatigue, muscle soreness & inflammation. Sleep & reduce stress helps, but there are days, I just can not get out of bed. The extreme fatigue has impacted my overall health. Fortunately my sugar levels has been normal, but my blood pressure has increased where I've never experienced high blood pressure before. I've also didn't loose my sense of smell nor taste, but experience joint pain. Unfortunately, my family doctor dismissed my current condition & doesn't recognize long haul covid. Thank you doctor for your insight & the ongoing knowledge. Post covid is real not just in one's head.

I am sorry you are having all these problems. Learning to improve our diets is something we all need to be doing and I think so many in the health profession don’t know what that is either. I believe improving gut health is the key and I, personally, am trying to move in that direction. I drink milk kefir every day for the probiotics and I recently added water kefir. I have learned to manage making these fermented drinks in a nonstressful way and found that if I need to go out of town, they will wait for me in the fridge and not die. I have made a delightful sauerkraut (more probiotics)and want to try fermenting other vegetables. I am trying to learn one new thing at a time while maintaining what I’ve already begun. I learned yesterday that you can sprout your beans before cooking them to boost nutrition and digestibility. The next “hard” thing I want to add is mastering sourdough. It also must be maintained. I tried once before and became overwhelmed with ferments which is why I say learn one thing at a time and master it. If you are interested in beginning with milk kefir which you can use as a base for great smoothies, watch a Donna Schwenk video on You Tube. I got my first starter grains from her and have been giving them away to friends and family ever since. Other helpful channels are Mary’s Nest and Rain Country. There are so many more you will find. Prayers for your journey to good health and if you can only do one good thing, do that.

@@wildabezet860 Thx for your health advice. I know probiotics are an important factor to good gut health. Eliminating excessive sugars, too many carbs, fast foods, pre-packaged foods, or any foods that just give empty nutritional benefits. When you take the vaccine, you are guaranteeing the interruption of the ace protein they talk about. It will cross the blood brain barrier and you are greatly increasing your risk of dementia. There are studies on this. These two are just too afraid to state the known. However, other doctors are speaking up about it. They are treading lightly by pushing natural prevention, which is still greatly appreciated.

And I can’t digest anything without enzyme supplements. I’m also now unable to come near lactose. So stopped dairy. All my symptoms were dismissed as IBS by my doctor! I try to use supplements to rebuild my flora but it feels like once I stop, after a couple of months of usage, things go back to a bad state. I’ve lost nights on end of sleep and my body is literally breaking down. muscles, ligaments and cartilage. colonoscopy and endoscopy came back clean and CT and ultrasound scans. Just did another CT with contrast yesterday bcuz I’m constantly having pain in my liver area but they keep saying my liver function tests are normal. now i’m having pains in my right kidney too!
