Fix Your Xbox Controller Thumb-sticks (without opening it up)

Simple instructions how to fix broken stock Xbox wireless controller thumb-sticks with one simple tool and no opening the case.
READ BEFORE TRYING!
1) This only works if the internal post is not also broken. This is not a fix for stick drift
(this guy might help • Xbox One Controller Dr... )
Pulling the sticks off is risky folks, so do this when you have nothing else to lose. Also THE POST IS RECTANGULAR AND THE SLOT IS TOO. ALIGN THEM WHEN PUTTING THE STICK BACK ON!
2) For the people who have commented that the inner post is broken. It is most likely that the post was broken when the trauma happened in the first place. I have tried dozens of times to pull the sticks off in different ways and cannot reproduce the post breaking. I am very sorry if your post is broken. Clearly this video does not suggest how to fix that. That piece is hardwired to the circuit board and if it is broken you likely need to open the controller. 3) I am just a dude who fixed his controller. I do not spend my time trying to break and fix other controllers other than mine. I do not have an Elite, a Skuff, or PS4 controlers. The only one I have is the one you see in the video. If you want to try this fix on another controller I would love to hear how it goes, but don't assume success.

You should have specified that your controller is custom and standard controllers don’t have a rubber base to the analog, because I and many others have broken the analog

This is a stock .. out of the box Xbox controller. There is nothing custom about it. I have also done it with the controller that came with the xbox one. (All black)

Tbh if you have an Xbox, a set of the screwdrivers is a really good $20 investment. Right after warranty exp thermal paste/pads needs replaced and you'll want to clean out every 6 months is you have pets. Especially cats. Plus the soldering kit is$20 and ive used it more than I ever thought I'd need to. Xbox, controller, my TV had a capacitor blow and I was thanking God I could solder. Probably added another 5 years on to that tv

Something to note: the newer series x controllers usually have notches in the small grey thing sticking up, so look for the correct indentations on the inside of the joystick to make sure it slides on correctly. I promise, this’ll save you time, potentially a few cut fingers, and frustration 🙂.

A tip for removing the joystick is to stick the butter knife into that open space when the thumbstick is popped up to the side like in the video and then apply force in the opposite direction from where the thumbstick is pointing I did this and it popped out much easier then trying to pull it out by force. The hard part for me was getting it back inside that needs some force

I find if you push it into the natural concave of the joystick spot it'll bend a bit on its own, then you add pressure and get it just right while pushing the stick in place

Tip: if you have a standard Xbox one controller, you’ll need to make the joystick base softer (his are rubber, most are hard plastic). Use a hair dryer on your joystick then follow his steps and it slides right in! ;)
