That's right, rev the bollocks off it. The thermostat opens at 88°c. If you have to drive it 5kms and rev 7 shades of crap out of it the thermostat needs replacing.

Just partially cover the front of the car by the radiator in winter time with a board ,regardless if the thermostat works or not,it would get warm inside in no time! Also,if the engine is cold all the time,it will use more fuel!

I don't understand, is it we have to cover in front of the air-conditioning radiator. With some plastic or cardboard in winter.

Normal operating temp is between 100 and 105 for these so if hour getting temps below this u can almost guarantee the stat is stuck open.

Thx for this vedio. I have a car like yours. Today I drove it in the city for about 5 kilos. Engine temperature while driving in the city ranges between 80 and 100 C. When searching for a parking spot, the temperature rose to 105C. is this normal?

In my Vectra C ‘06 with the same engine I had to drive over 20 KM before the coolant needle started to climb from minimum! It never really reaches 88°C, most of the time it sticks to about 68°C which is far below ideal temps. I think my stat might be open all the time.

@@fredcharleskrueger5183 sorry i misread your comment about you saying you had same engine as the zafira in the video. There really expensive these thermostats. Mines the electronically controlled one and got a fault code P0597 which is heater control circuit open

I have a fiat doblo 1.9 jtd basically same engine and never reaches working temperature and heater blow cold air. That hose is warm after 2 minutes of runing on idle, that means my stat is stucked open?

I have a Meriva A Z17DTH from 2004 it takes ages for it to get warm.Specially in winter .Usually i warm the engine for about 15 minues before driving away and 15km later still the coolant gauge is at the rock bottom.

termostat malfunction? i have seen in autodoc there is also 2 version of termostat, one opens on 82C other in 92C the latter might give more warmth, I have the same issue with my Z16XE

I cant get mine above 60 C, Im about to change it. The hose is warm but due to proximity of engine heat I can't tell for sure. Either way I'm replacing it... I hope it isn't temp sensor.. cheers

hi, i have opel astra 2001, at start up i need to press the gas up to 2000 to 2000 rpm before the car finally moves.. and when i brake at a little high speed say aroung 60 rpm, i could feel jerking of the car same on the brake pedal..

Doe's the thermostat have to be open for warm coolant to pass through the heater matrix?

In most cars, I guess in all, the matrix has its own coolant circuit, so that it would be warm for the driver right away. But if the thermostat is faulty and opens right away, the engine will take ages to warm up and the matirx too.

I just replaced my stat with a new one and the pipe to the rad still gets hot right away, do you think that means the new stat is dud or could there b another reason?

Caprodon: Only Wahler, GM or Behr thermostats work. All other are crap. In Finland we have learned this.

Better cold than hot... Unless it's reading the wrong temp. Sounds like you need a new thermostat as it's getting stuck open if you haven't replaced already.

why did you connect engine to battery directly? or is this from factory?

these engines suffer from poor earth connection, resulting in very poor battery charging. So adding an extra earth strap helps a lot. You may also need to add a positive wire too.
