It’s terrible for penetration it grabs the shaft and slows the arrows. The heads with a larger Ferrel will go deeper every time simply because the push the most gel away from the shaft not allowing it to grab. On meat aka deer that iron will will out penetrate most all Broadheads. Look at the perfect Broadhead for penetration a 3 to 1 single bevel they don’t penetrate worth a crap in gel but blow through animals.
@daltonbbf7562 жыл бұрын
@@a.b.k1983 yes it’s the same medium that does not mean it’s good for arrow penetration test. Shooting all the arrows into concrete that would be the same medium but it would make a terrible penetration test.
@daltonbbf7562 жыл бұрын
@@a.b.k1983 actually clear ballistic gel is made for a constant medium you can see into. The company it’s self has admitted multiple times it’s not a accurate representation of flesh. As you said a consistent medium. thats all it is constant to its self not constant to flesh. It’s mainly made for seeing firearm projectiles. It is not a super accurate representation of muscle tissue. 10% FBI spec gel is a closer representation to tissue but it is hard to work with being it has to be kept at set temperature and isn’t clear like clear ballistics gel is. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the fact that exodus spends the money and time trying to find what’s best and help us all. Unfortunately this just isn’t a very valid test due to multiple factors. The only true way to cut down on outlying factors would to be to use dead carcasses but then you still have so many factors shot angel/placement fat percentage muscle density. To top it of they would all have to be shot with the same setup same arrow same bow same distance to really eliminate any potential errors. That’s just not possible. People get way to caught up in a gel test but they haven’t take the time to research types of gels and what there are designed for. Broadhead integrity/sharpness is far more valuable then any gel penetration test can or could be.
@JWZelch2 жыл бұрын
@@daltonbbf756 I think you are spot-on in your criticisms of gel for this purpose. The QAD Exodus wins so many of these tests, outpenetrating two blade fixed heads all the time. I firmly believe that happens because of exactly the same reason you stated: the big tip separates the gel and the gel doesn’t grab onto the arrow shaft. Hide, muscle, bone, and body fluids don’t behave anything like gel. It’s really a very poor medium for testing broadhead penetration, ESPECIALLY to use it for comparison.

Most accurate statement here. It’s not a judgement on the making of the video from me either I just think it should be made clear this is a video just for fun and not a video to base a broadhead purchase on. Ballistic gel is the worst to test arrow penetration. Iron Will is the best because it’s not going to bend or break when it hits a bone. I shot G5 last year and killed a nice buck. It works. But the blade was bent and tip curled over after only hitting a rib. As for penetration, none of the broadheads passed through the gel but I bet all of them have at least one hunter that could say they’ve passed through a deer with them.

@chrisunruh64852 жыл бұрын
It’s awesome to see new hunters getting excited. I want to give you the most important couple pieces of advice I can give a new hunter. 1.) Do NOT overwhelm yourself. Just get into the woods or field and get there quietly. You’ll learn so much by just doing it. 2.) if you can, find someone experienced who is willing to help you along the way. I love all these channels but I’ve been hunting since I was 5 and I had several people mentoring me over the years. I couldn’t imagine trying to sort through all this information alone as a new hunter. This video for example is neat and I enjoyed watching it but I wouldn’t make a broadhead purchase based on the results. We learned that tooth of the arrow goes further into ballistic gel and that’s it. There is no blood for lubricant or bones to bend blades just one solid medium. Enough of that. Most importantly have fun and shoot what makes you happy. Shoot a doe first chance you get to get the jitters out. I still do that every year. I don’t want my first shot of the year to be a botched shot on the buck of a lifetime. I don’t want it on a doe either but if I had to choose… Good luck!

Why is it always about the broadhead and what IT can do? Arrow length, finished arrow weight, draw length, bow poundage, double cams, single cam/ idler wheel or even older double wheel bows, porpoising or fish tailing arrow flight all add or subtract to the penetration of an arrow and of course its leading edge. Broadheads have taken on a consumerism life of its own. You see often on vids and forums, someone asking “ hows the blood trail” on such and such broadhead? As if the broadhead is stand alone doing all the work, as if its a seperate entity. It is a component of an entire system. The entire system coupled with the operator is what determines a bloodtrail or lack thereof. All sharp broadheads will kill on a well tuned, balanced system. Even a not so sharp one but what I may call dull others may call sharp so theres also that.
