I've been rocking one as an EDC (not neck!) fixed blade for about 3 years now. Can strongly recommend it. Performs well & easy to maintain. The polished micarta is a bit slick but for me the handle just melts into the hand. You won't be using this for hard tasks so it's not a big issue. I have the red micarta & the colouring is just beautiful. Finally the leather sheath is very well made. Just a bit of maintenance and it lasts and lasts. I use leather conditioner every now and then no problem. Shape blades all.

Thanks David. The handle does indeed fit the hand super well. Good point about leather maintenance, that is something that a lot of people overlook.

Hi Jake, Thanks so much for you, doing that video for us. I like this knife, especially as it is legal EDC here in 🇩🇪. Might be tempted to make my own sheath for it to carry scout style... I like these smaller EDC knives as an additional blade to carry. All the best to you as always, thanks so much, best to you!
@CanadianCuttingEdge

Thanks Thomas. The kydex sheath option would work well as scout carry, maybe with an additional belt loop but those are not hard to find for just little money.

Jake you really do a nice, thorough and entertaining review. I personally really like my Bark River PSK EDC for a small fixed blade.

Thanks Scott. Small knives are quite underrated these days, and especially small fixed blades. Bark River does a good job indeed.

If you like knives made in the far north you should take a look at Swedish Karesuandokniven, made in Karesuando north of the Arctic circle. And then there is Norwegian Knivsmed Strømeng AS, found another 300 km northbound. 🙂

To be clear, thought it was cool that they made knives way up north, I don't like any knives based on where they are made. That said, I will look into those brands that you mentioned.

My favorite edc fixed blade is the MKM Mikro 2.... I love the magnetic pocket sheath, it can be clipped to pocket or carried in the pocket. Perfect for the urban environment. I like it so much I might get the MKM mikro 1. The bonus is that it can be carried onto planes.... non usa flights. Thank you for the review.

Hi Slivo, I have an MKM magnetic sheath, I just haven't reviewed it yet - at least I think it's MKM... We can carry blades up to 60mm long on Canadian flights too, but as you said, they can't carry any knives on flights in/to/from the "land of the free".

It is a fun little knife. If there is a next time, I would have go for one with Kydex I think for a bit more concealment as a neck knife and a bit more options for carry in other ways.
@johneli495

Ugh this knife brings bad memories. Some years ago I carried that knife in the leather sheath on my belt and it came out while I was seated somewhere and lost the knife. I remember it being a neat knife, but the handle was not long enough for my taste, and also the handle was a bit slick. And of course I am not a fan of any sheath that does not lock down the knife
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
I am glad they have the option of a kydex sheath these days. I think the kydex should be standard and the leather an option for those who like more old school carry options. The handle size is okay by me for a small knife but as I said in the video, I wish the micarta didn't have a polished surface.

Jake I've got a question. And since I didn't see anyone else ask it, I figured I might as well... How good is the retention of the leather sheath? Is it good enough to hold the knife in sheath if you were to say run a bit of cord through the hollow rivet in the bottom and use that to wear the knife around your neck? The reason I asked is that was the first thing that popped into my head when you said you weren't sure why they used the hollow rivet.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
Good questions. I did carry it as a neck knife using the loop to tie some paracord through. The retention wearing it around the neck on some paracord is decent both if you tuck it under a shirt or have it completely free. What I did not like was when I carried it under a shirt or jacket or coat is now much it printed (showed off that it was there). I didn't test it with using the bottom hole rivet because the knife would spill out of the sheath extremely easily when upsidedown, but I am confident that it would be completely fine to do that if you had the kydex sheath.

maybe a video on the best value guided sharpening system would be good, I see you have quite a few of them
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
Interesting idea. The problem is that I dislike ALL the value guided sharpening systems. I guess it also depends on what $ amount you classify as "value", but there is no guided sharpening system out there under $150USD that I like enough to recommend outright. Unfortunately, they all have too many compromises. Can you sharpen with them, yes, but its more work than it should be with inferior results. Maybe I am just too picky about sharpening?
@blacklisted4885
@blacklisted4885 Жыл бұрын
@Canadian Cutting Edge oh I see, it's still that way huh. I've seen so many cheaper systems around I thought maybe there was one decent one by now. I know the cheap stones are always crap

Old style "frontier" tip down in leather, not sure why the belt loop either !
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
It's an odd loop if it's supposed to be a neck knife, but I think a lot of people use it as a belt knife. One other commenter (at least) says that is how they carry it.

I'm surprised to learn that these are made in Portugal, I had poked around trying to find out the country of manufacture and most guesses were Taiwan.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
I just contacted them directly and they responded the next day. Also, I decided to contact them because White Mountain Knives listed Portugal as the place they were made. It was great to hear that they were moving all their knife manufacturing to Finland by the end of 2024 and that many of their knives are already made in Finland.

The kydex is ugly. The leather sheath has some style to it. That is a very pretty knife. I consider a neck knife a go to and a back up knife combination. Its what you would reach for to cut a bit of cordage or trim a finger nail. It saves trips into the back pack for a bigger knife which you just don't need for most tasks.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
One could say that all kydex is ugly, and the next guy might say that kydex looks good - it's a question of personal taste. I agree, I like neck knives too, they can be extremely useful.

Im looking at this a Kizer Baby, or a Sencut Waxahachie for a good pocket fixed blade. Thoughts between the 3?
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge Жыл бұрын
I have pros to say about each of those 3. Which is better? It depends on what you want to do with it. For an all purpose knife I would probably pick the Baby because it has the better steel of all 3 and it as more of an all purpose style blade too.

I love the look of this knife, but the sheaths are not working for me. The leather one won't fit most belts, and the Kydex is ugly. Also, sure wish they would have used 14C28N Sandvic steel... I am thinking of a small fixed blade for EDC, but I want a "taco" style kydex sheath with a Utiliclip to carry inside the right pocket.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 11 ай бұрын
I don't know what your intended purpose is, nor how particular you are about the steel choice, but here are some ideas (pancake instead of a taco sheath, that seems to be the thing with smaller knives, but maybe one of these might work for you): Kizer Baby - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIjbYWiVh7R5gac QSP Neckmuck - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5zOqHiEmqesnLM Real Steel Metamorph (fixed) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/banbiKSLpqhop5I Steel Will Druid 282 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnaamIibhtWnY9E

Thanks for signing up at Patreon.com/CCE - I appreciate it. So, even just with the name NECKER it would not be allowed? That's too bad because they don't package it as a neck knife, no cordage or anything to make it possible to carry on the neck but with what looks like a belt loop and you can see in the comments that others do carry it either on their belt or in a pocket.
