I EDC a CRKT SPEW or Artisan Cutlery Sea Snake designed by Mike Emler. I'm new to the knife & EDC community so I am still learning. I bought a Kershaw Hotwire for $12 because I love the sheepsfoot, reverse tanto & Wharncliffe blades. It's been a great knife. I just bought the CRKT Raikiri Field Strip on sale for $32. I wanted a Field Strip knife but couldn't justify their prices for inferior materials. I'm hooked. Definitely going to be getting more high end knives in time. So many choices & great designs. Loving the Bradford Guardian 3 Sheepsfoot & Wharncliffe blades.

The Bradfords are awesome. For a budget Bradford, take a look at the Brisa 80 Bobtail, or the Brisa 70 necker. Between $60 and $80, Sandvik steel (which means sticky razor sharp edge). I got one (80 Bobtail) to try EDC fixed carry before I got my Bradford and now, though I swap back on forth, I've ended up carrying it a bit more than the Bradford. Great ergo, easy sharpening and half the price. As for your carry, I've got to get the Sea snake. I love the blade shape and that utility style shape would be perfect for my work. Great choice👍🏾. Oh, and welcome to the knife world. One tip, though we can't get the materials out of our head as enthusiasts, buy it for the design and blade geometry first, and then the materials/blade steel. In the knife world we make the mistake of overlooking great steels like 12C27 (14c's little brother), VG10, and AUS10A,or harshly judging the price on those steels when they're actually all awesome steels and were "super steels" just yesterday (figuratively). That said, you've already noticed the problem with CRKT. Prices not really matching the materials with the added gimmicks sold at a premium. Welcome again and have fun 😊

I own maybe two folders and like a dozen fixed blades. I will only ever carry a folder for EDC. Mostly because they're so much more convenient in a pocket, you can carry a longer blade, and it's more "socially acceptable" you could say. But when I'm in the woods it's fixed blades for me. I'll use my EDC for filleting fish and the such, but I'm a fixed blade guy at heart.

@@chimchu3232 I’m curious why you prefer 1095 in a small fixed blade. Their toughness is actually about the same according to the stats. Not like toughness really comes into play at this blade size, anyways. Maybe 1095 is more likely to roll than 35 but 35 has been pretty good for me with rolling instead of chipping. Not like I’m out there chopping hard wood with a 3 in blade, tho. Is 1095 a bit easier to sharpen? White rivers S35vn is pretty easy to sharpen though but I guess if you’re just using natural materials found out in the woods, like rocks or mud, then 1095 could be better for that. I do really like folders, but my daily carry always revolves around a compact fixed blade. For EDC, my criteria is as follows. Horizontal carry sheath option. Synthetic is my preference, but I do make exceptions. For length, I typically cut it off at the 7.5" mark. I haven't carried anything larger for edc, but I'm sure the right knife could make me stretch to 8". My fav size is 7". Weight wise, it depends on the sheath, but 8 oz w/o sheath is probably where I top out. Again...exceptions can be made. I do love neck knives, but its gotta be just the right size. Between 3.5" to maybe 6", and it must have great retention. Thanks for the video guys. You won my subscription.

I had carried a Buck Folder (a Duke) the same way for many years and i didn't see much difference in the two. Some people did. All fixed, all the time. Primary rotation: Kabar Mk1 (kydex) or OKC SP4 (leather), in scout, pommel at roughly 430-5 o'clock. Crkt Obake in pocket or tucked on a static line. Kabar skeletonized mini Becker (custom horizontal sheath) by the belt buckle (weak hand). Occasionally an S&W or Pakistani Damascus dagger in the boot.. Always a pair minimum. Two is one, one is none.

I carry a fix blade everyday. Right now it's my white river knife fc4 fire craft knife. Sub 3 inch is useless in my opinion. Carry a folder if you choose under a 3.5 inch fix blade.

I have never worried about what someone else thinks. If someone is worried about my knives they need to get a life. This whole idea that certain knives are scary is just ridiculous. Don't live your life worrying about others opinions. That is what is destroying us now. You have a small group that wants to control everyone. They need safe places and words hurt them. I refuse to let some punk hiding in a basement decide what's good for me. Make you choice bet my way will make you happy.

An EDC has the greatest possibility to become a survival knife and you can't rely on a folding knife for that in my opinion. Fixed blade, full tang, is the way to go.
Most tactical for EDC fixed blades? No. Spartan Blades Enyo, Formido, and Phrike, Toor Knives Jank Shank, this list gets long.
@TheClipPoint3 жыл бұрын
This certainly isn’t the most tactical. Just an example of one. We haven’t done a best of video for any fixed blades as of yet. Soon though!

Fixed blades genuinely are more utilitarian. If all you’re doing is opening boxes you can probably get away with a folder. A folder has a lot more cool factor and “acceptability” the way you’re putting it, but you shouldn’t give a f*** what anyone thinks about what you carry as long as it’s legal and practical for your lifestyle.

First, Josh, no shout out about our conversation on the Emerson scales? 😉 😂 Second, I use my fixed as a back up on my belt or when I wear shorts in the summer and want to free up some pocket space. Like when I’m coaching my kids team and I don’t want a bunch of stuff in my pockets. I can have a fixed on my shorts elastic and no one even knows it’s there. Works great for me. I have Also done a small neck knife under the shirt in the same type of scenarios.
@TheClipPoint3 жыл бұрын
Hahahaha!!! Torched me. Honestly it was lost on me but I didn’t forget! 🤣 Nice, that’s a great point. A fixed has its role. I don’t always carry one, but when I do it’s in a pocket. Back when I was enlisted I carried on my person more so. I guess it really depends on your day to day.
@thebardock67853 жыл бұрын
I want a fixed blade but not gonna lie in the eyes of the public I can use a pocket knife without scaring ppl in public cutting things etc vs pulling a fixed blade.
@TheClipPoint3 жыл бұрын
Very true, and a very good point. That’s exactly why if a fixed blade is carried it’s a small one that’s only really used for select tasks, or for self defense.
@thebardock67853 жыл бұрын
@@TheClipPoint but I would preferebly carry a fixed if it was the right size.

Fixed blade scares people. I like my Edc hidden away in the pocket
@TheClipPoint3 жыл бұрын
Not all the time, but I understand what you’re saying. It really depends on where you’re at and the type of fixed blade you’re carrying. If I’m going to be in mixed company I’ll carry a small one that fits down in my pocket. Any larger and it’s for a different purpose than EDC (unless I’m at a camp or hunting).

Please stop cowering to the mob. Man up and carry your fixed blade proudly. This is supposed to be land of the free. Our ancestors tamed the wilderness with their blades and its been part of our culture ever since. Until the woke mob took over and started brainwashing ppl into handing your freedoms over. Be American and be proud!
@jamesbuchanan3145 Жыл бұрын
See, I disagree with the idea that you EDC knife isnt a "self defense knife". Sure, I dont carry a knife with the primary purpose being defense...I carry a pistol for that. *But* every knife I carry can absolutely be pressed into service if the need should arise. I dont carry a sub 3" blade when I'm out-an-about. A knife is a tool, and I go as close to "all purpose" as I can. My EDC folder is usually either the Ka-Bar hunter, or the Ontario RAT1. My EDC fixed blade is usually either a Buck 113, or previously an Old Timer Sharp Finger. Not big blades, but big enough to be all-purpose blades, including up-close and personal criminal repellent.

I edc my Enzo/Brisa Elver and recently the Condor Trivitatta puukko and / or the Tops Tanimboca Puukko on my hip. They are right around 3 inches, too, a hair above and...I don't care about the "scary" factor. It used to be totally normal in the 80s for a man to wear a fixed blade belt knife....The sissification of this current generation is over the top. They are slowly turning America into the U.K . , those poor saps can't even carry fixed blades nor folders over 2 inches. Yet in certain areas, their police won't go , cause some folks there like chopping heads off with machetes. Upside-down world

Come on, a fix blade for EDC? Maybe if you live in the boonies. There’s enough folders made specifically for meat cutting and many that are design to take a part in the field ( no tools ) like the CRKT Homefront. A small fix blade neck knife is cool but definitely not a replacement for your regular EDC. A folder doesn’t need a sheath and doesn’t use up valuable pocket real estate.
@presidentmerkinmuffley67692 жыл бұрын
All depends on use, I live in a city. I normally carry atleast a pair often three. An open carried full size for heavy tasks (thick rope is a bitch with a tiny blade), a small heavy task capable, and a small light task, either small guy must be concealable. And as far as real estate goes, a small blade with a static line or ulticlip rides little to no different than my old Spyderco Endura 4 or Cold Steel Ti lite.
