I carry a fixed blade karambit, right hand inside my waistband. Im a lifeguard, and I find it really useful for emergency medical situations. The karambit style I find is best for multiple reasons, such as removing clothing with less chance of accidentally stabbing the victim-can just slip it in and glide down along the skin without having to worry about it too much. Obviously trauma shears would be better for that, but for other stuff I would rather have a knife-such as in case someone gets caught in buoy ropes, anchor ropes, etc. As far as fixed vs folding blade, thats simply because of the water. No moving parts to get in between and rust-makes it very easy to keep clean and dry.
@jacobacostamasterscribe22006 жыл бұрын
dbmeed emt here. Shears for clothing no exceptions. You’re asking to fuck someone up. Even if it’s an accident it’s your fault. People need you to help them, there’s no room for being too irresponsible to use shears
@chardy1146 жыл бұрын
Raptor shears, you won’t regret them. Firefighter/paramedic and swift water rescue technician are among a few of my jobs. Don’t get rid of the Karambit though, excellent for tangle ups and as a back up. Also as long as you occasionally use fishing reel oil they won’t rust much. Worth every bit of the $65

For the longest time I never dreamed of EDCing a fixed blade but that all changed one day. I have a Mora Companion that I carry while hunting and it's my go-to skinning knife. I wear camo overalls and I can clip it to one of the chest buttons using the hole on the belt clip which is really handy. I took it to work one day to show it to a friend who was looking at fixed blades. Not wanting to forget it at work I clipped it to my belt but had it positioned so that the sheath was tucked into my back pocket next to my wallet and man...it fit perfectly and didn't interfer with my wallet at all. Its super comfortable and rides low enough that it doesn't jab me anywhere while seated or getting in and out my truck. Yet it's hidden and faster to deploy than my folders and you get the strength of a fixed blade. It's as natural as reaching for my wallet. It totally freed up my front pocket and I have not missed having a folder. I do always have a little Victorinox Rambler on my key chain incase I don't want to pull out a fixed blade somewhere and it has the added bonus of scissors and tweezers so between those two tools I really only carry a folder if I'm getting dressed up or something.

@jake_up80997 жыл бұрын
No I haven't. When I go to the website to shop I mainly look at edc(able) fixed blade knives. The are options for folding, fixed, otf,auto and so on. So I click fixed, and go through the pain staking process of filtering (I'm lazy). With EDC fixed blade knives on the rise I thought I would suggest that option for the website. But then again it may be hard to distinguish what is EDC(able) on y'all's end.

I live in Los Angeles, California. . . so it's nearly impossible unless you are out camping or on a long hike in the forest. But when working in my home garden, I carry the M-Tech Biohazard Scorpion Karambit fixed blade, to trim the banana trees. I used to train working on slashes against the banana tree trunk, but as a cook and Sushi chef, I found that having banana leaves are really useful for plate presentations and for certain cooking techniques. Having a large curved karambit makes it really easy to cut off and harvest banana leaves. I also use it to trim small thin bamboo reeds also in the garden. I got this knife for the intention of self defense, but ended up using as it was traditionally used for as a cultivation tool for harvesting

What I edc carry is the protech rockeye fixed blade in the 5 o’clock position, I ccw a gen 4 glock 19 in the 4 o’clock with spare mag at the 9 o’clock. Knife and gun are both reachable by my right hand without looking and from sitting position. Most comfortable for me for edc setup. With a fixed blade I don’t have to worry about lock failure which has only happened once on a cold steel recon tanto. Small fixed blades I believe are very handy when wearing gloves, hands are cold or wet or your manual dexterity has been compromised.

I edc a becker necker in my right front pocket with the sheath it comes with. I’ve carried EDC for over 5yrs. I don’t notice it and use it a lot. Recently it was all I had on a impromptu 2 day camping trip. It was batoned through wood for kindling, built some poles for tarping and for food prep. Loved the ease of the 1095 and it’s strength. The handle is paracord wrap. It was a gift from a good friend so it’s worth more than the price for me.

Hell yeah Tyson, I've been wanting to get a guardian 3, good to know it'll carry well on a big guy like myself haha. I tried to carry a fixed blade for edc a couple times, I have the CRKT S.P.E.W. and tried scout style and the belt clip snapped off because I got caught on something, I ended up carrying it in my pocket because usually I have my keys on a lanyard around my neck, so neck carry isn't a option. I recently got the H&K dispatch, and I didn't want to spend time with the paracord it came with on figuring out how I was going to secure it to my belt. Luckily I have some deep pockets and was also able to EDC it lol

I carry a fixed blade because the ease of use ability. While working my hands can be covered in any number of things from grease and oil to engine coolant as well as many other things so to reach into my pocket where I may have my wallet or other valuables while my hands are all greasy is a no go. Having a fixed blade on my waist either on my side or abdomen is the best choice for me I can easily draw and use it without reaching into my pocket. Im now carrying the benchmade altitude because for one it’s very light and 2 it doesn’t have any surfaces on the handle that dirt grease or grime can get into as well as awesome S90v steel that’s very sharp for a long time. I also like that I can take it fishing hunting or camping and have great use out of the Altitude there as well. All in all this is my favorite all around. I also have a benchmade saddle mountain which is also a beauty and fits into your hand as well as most custom made knives and it is also light and easy to carry but I love it so much a can’t bear to get her dirty so I won’t carry it at work.

I rotate the following CS Kobun Esee 3 (Above get crossdrawed) CS Counter Tac 1 CS Spike (Above dangle upside down via paracord loop on belt at 4 o clock) Condor Bushlore (upright, 4 o clock) Boker micro (as neck knife) The Cold Steel Spike (or similar knives) works VERY well hung (not mounted) upside down from the belt. It being able to swing as needed as you move allows it to flow with the clothing over it. Minimizing printing, hang ups, and maximizing comfort because the blade isn't so "bolted on to" you. You essentially get the positive characteristics of neck knife carry without it migrate all over the place like neck knives often can. Only about a 1/2 inch of the handle is typically exposed while it's under my shirt or hoodie, and despite it hanging and able to swing as I move, I can always get to it like it's mounted. Highly recommend giving this carry method a try. I wear clothes roughly the same baggyness as these guys and it's the shit. (Just a paracord loop on the tip of the sheath)

Being right-handed, I'll carry an Old Timer fixed blade on my right side if I'm doing yard work. If I'm out hunting and I'm carrying my rifle I'll carry a fixed blade on my left hand side. If I'm carrying a firearm on my right side I'll have a fixed blade on my left hand side. But for every day carry I just carry a folding knife in my left pocket so it's out of the way of my keys. I'm surprised how many guys don't carry any knives at all in their pocket for every day carry. I noticed because they have need for it and they have to ask somebody for a knife or go searching for one to simply open a package.

I know this is an old video but nonetheless Ben asked about karambit as a EDC ... I carry 2 on my person and one inverted on the strap of my backpack. - My first and favorite in my right front pocket is my fox karambit. - My 2nd is in my back left pocket and it is a Smith & Wesson extreme ops karambit. - My 3rd it may not be a daily but every time I have my backpack on me I have it so, I carry it on the strap of my backpack so it would be located on my right chest inverted so the handle is down and it is my SOG fixed blade lightweight karambit. I can understand and how Ben was like I just don't get karambits. When I first saw them they didn't look right I thought they were all wrong and I just couldn't understand how that knife was even designed. Then one day I discovered Doug Marcaida... I was hooked and I started training and learning as much as I could about karambit knife fighting. Now they are my EDCs and they're like second nature to use for a wide range of things or anything a knife might be used for .

I've been carrying fixed consistently for about 7 years. Concealed fixed blade carry is of questionable legality where I live (the standard "dirk, dagger, or ice pick" with no definitions provided) but open carry is fine, so I try to find a balance between visible enough to be legal and otherwise not too conspicuous. My primary carry knife is a Fiddleback Forge Esquire (2.75" blade, 6.5" overall) in a pocket sheath with a clip. Works great for me and doesn't seem to scare the muggles.

Anthony Coffey you aren’t missing anything with the knuckle dusters. Used to carry some around myself (they were black DLC coated steel ones) and I got into a fight and used them. Still got sent to the hospital (was 6 people against me and my high school buddy, uneven fight) and incurred $3k in medical bills. They didn’t help me at all, and the only substantial thing they did was put me in danger of catching a felony. I didn’t get any legal trouble from all that, just saying it’s better to not mess with those. I now live in Pennsylvania (grew up in Cali) and so I can legally carry a fixed blade. I carry a Buck 119 now, and it always comes in handy with daily tasks, and it makes me feel safe lol

I just recently started EDC a fixed blade knife. I carry it in a Virginia tuck on the right back side(It’s about a 4-o’clock position) Since having started EDC, the number of men looking to proposition me has dropped from 2-3 a week to 0 a week. As for why I carry, I work in a kitchen and it’s great for opening and breaking down boxes

I have carried and owned MANY fixed blades. The problem with skeletonized fixed blades is comfort. They are horrible for using in any type of high-pressure cutting application where a hammer fist grip is necessary. The skeletonized knife grip is just so obnoxiously thin that it cuts into the palm and instantly causes pain. Even the thinnest folders are still much thicker than any skeletonized fixed blade. I would certainly carry a fixed blade if it has a good, comfortable handle. To me, skeletonized knives are nothing more than a clever way for knife makers to sell an incomplete knife. Furthermore, I don't like cord wraps because they are extremely unsanitary. Especially if you plan to use your knife for any food application, particularly raw meats. String, rope, and cords are porous materials and harbor bacteria and are nearly impossible to effectively clean. Also, when cord gets wet, it takes a lot of time to fully dry out and holds moisture against the steel of the knife and can cause the knife to rust. All bad things, and not a good idea. For me, if a knife doesn't have the ability to be easily washed and cleaned due to inferior handle materials (like cord wraps), and/or doesn't provide the user proper purchase and a COMFORTABLE grip with the affordance of multiple grip options (pinch grip, hammer grip, reverse grip, chest lever grip, saber grip, etc.), then it's not a good knife. Knives with accentuated finger grooves are a prime example of a knife NOT to buy, as it provides the user with no affordance, in other words, it's forcing the user to grip the knife in a particular way which is bad. A prime example of this would be the Folt's minimalist neck knife. Just a bad design. The best knives are going to be designed with neutral grip ergos, and solid sanitary handle materials like g10, micarta, kirinite, stabilized wood, etc., etc. A good knife should also NOT have any sharp corners on the grip. Knives like the Bradford Guardians are horrible because the entire handle is left with sharp 90 degree edges that should have been radioused (rounded off). Handles with sharp corners are quickly going to create hot spots and give the user blisters when used in high-pressure cutting tasks, or prolonged usage. Knives with sharp corners should also be avoided, as they are nothing more than wall art, and are not meant for the hand. Some examples of makers that know how to produce a proper handle would be makers like, Bark River Knife & Tool, Diving Sparrow Knife Works, LT Wright knives, and Mora. Trust your hand, not your eyes.

I carry several different blades/styles due to having multiple jobs with different requirements and purposes. My fixed blades that I carry pretty consistently are 1: CRKT obake in front right pocket. As a under the radar knife.2: Cold steel mini pentagon in the boot. Sometimes the boot is more accessible than the waist/pockets. 3: a CFK custom fixed blade with D2 steel and Japanese tanto style blade, very thick. Carried in horizontal belt carry across lumbar spine, used for eating and heavy duty tasks. I know this seems like a lot of blades but all of my jobs are very unique and high stress. I recommend everyone buy raptor shears though. At one point I was carrying those in place of all folding knives. Still would be but I couldn’t help carrying my newest folders too!

I EDC fixed blades. I have a WINKLER belt knife, and a TOOR darter in Ranger Green! I had a Gerber 06 , and a expensive HOGUE, and a microtech all FAIL on me ! Between those two knives I have my bases covered! I really like both, but I have to say the serrations on the TOOR are really great for cardboard, and my knife chores. Good luck, happy trails, and be safe!

Beautiful knives; simply too expensive unless your a collector. Your average American just can’t justify spending more than $40 on a knife. Two hundred bucks gets you a good handgun on the secondary market.

I carry the CRKT Minimalist Keramin. I like fixed blades for the lack of moving parts, and their durability, and the Keramin is a great utilitarian knife without being too big (though its uncommon blade shape makes it sorta menacing to non-knife people). I actually carry it on my belt on my left side and draw it sort of like a tiny little sword. It also came RIDICULOUSLY sharp in the box, so that’s a plus. First CRKT knife, not disappointed.

Along the back of my belt. Wearing a suit every day, I can hide the handle under the jacket at work. Or, in my personal time, across the back of the belt under the flannel or polo shirt I wear. Most people go for a speed draw which draws your target's eyes. Fast is slow, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Better to strike with precision and speed at the right moment than to die with a blade in your hand.

When I was younger I lived/worked in some very unpleasant areas of the world. I was always carrying and I always had a few blades on me, but those back of the belt blades never sat quite right for me, (although I liked the idea) 'till I finally had one custom made that had very little profile. It was overlooked numerous times, thankfully I never had to pull it, but I was always glad it was there..

I was deployed with a guy to Bosnia and carried a fixed blade knife tip up. He had an incident and fell on it. It went through the sheath and had to get 4 sutures in his back. I designed and made a leather sheath for by Becker BK-16. It can be worn at least 12 ways depending on the carrier and MOLLE compatible for gear. I wore it daily for 4 years straight scout carry with no issues.

This was one of the best, if not THE best of the older (and maybe overall) episodes. I LOVE to carry small fixed blades daily. Often 2 or more in addition to a folder (I know, I have a severe case) but I'm pretty sure it's chronic and incurable, so I just go with it. I used to EDC a CRKT f4-02. How I carried it depended on my pants. Sometimes I’d wear it clipped inside my pocket. Other times I’d reverse the clip to tip-up, then I’d put it horizontally inside my belt loops in my lower back. Then I could reach back and draw it easily, but it was out of my way and hidden by my shirt.
