Breville BOV650XL toaster oven .
Thermostat part number SP0010487
Toaster oven would power on, and controls worked, but would not heat up. Heating elements and thermal fuse all tested good. Thermostat was replaced and the unit started working.

I had the same problem with my Breville model BOV650 purchased new in Oct 2021. Watched this video all the way thru then read all of the comments. I learned by reading the comments maybe all you need to do is wipe the thermostat clean. It's located top right inside of the oven, I wiped it with a clean cloth and now it works. THANKS!

5:42 the three screws - by all means remove the feet from the unit but just right of the bottom right screw there is a drill hole and a screw down the hole that is the screw you remove free the control unit that allows you to take the lid completely off. No need to have a long screw driver as you mention much earlier in this video. Just take the feet off and that one screw to free the controller.

Great informative video. I was able to get those 5 black screws off with a smaller screwdriver, just enough finger strength, and cut risk. FWIW, HEATER_N spade was burnt out on my Breville's power PCB. New ones are $50 with shipping and currently back-ordered so after 7 years might have to just throw it in the landfill.

Same problem with my PCB power supply board. I was able to re-solder my Heater-N spade back into the board. BTW the overall build quality of that board is very low. Thin epoxy, warped board, poor heat dissipation and low quality interconnects make the board a likely defective component. Inspect those boards carefully and you may find your fault and be able to fix it using a solder iron to reflow burned traces.

Novice here. When you say putting the temp sensors back in. Do you mean disconnecting them from the wire that leads to the controller then reconnecting it again. I couldn’t find a video on disconnecting temp or thermal sensors but did find on a regular oven which was more like a replacement. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJu5gKSKgdR9iJI I’m assuming I would have to open the back unlike the example in the video I posted. I’m attempting a fix on a breville bov800xl. It’s been two months since you posted this. Is this issue still resolved. Thanks

E01 error is likely to mean either a failed thermal fuse at the back of the oven (once the back cover taken off) or a failed thermistor (thermal resister used to measure temperature). just in case this helps anyone, the sage / breville smart oven uses SF214E SEFUSE 10A 250V 216 Celcius fuse, you can check the fuse for continuity with most electronic meters. in case no signal is coming through - it’s the culprit. alternatively, if the fuse shows signal continuity, then it could be thermal resistor (thermistor) that is screwed to the wall of the oven and needs to unscrewed from the inside. if that’s the element to fix and you manage to unscrew it - first clean it and then test it for resistance. It’s a 100k glass Thermal Resistor NTC MF58 if measured at 25C temperature (costs peanuts). So, it can read lower or higher depending on the temperature of the space you’re in, normally 70k to 120k, unless the temp difference is more significant.Sometimes, just cleaning it helps as dirt can short the signal and, thus, trigger the discussed error. Bear in mind that if you decide to change the thermal resistor due to it being shorted after all, then soldering it won’t work - you’d need to crimp it. It operates at under 230C, where solder isn’t likely to last long. Sage / Breville make their devices a nightmare to disassemble and fix. They're very simple in principle, but well - it's just business (i.e., scam).
@gslavik
@gslavik 3 жыл бұрын
Should be possible to check resistance of the thermostat. It's like a simply thermistor (similar to what is used in 3d printers). Resistance should be more than 0 (shorted) but less than infinity (open circuit).

I really love the Air Frying function of my Breville Toaster/Air Fry oven and have not yet have a problem with it. The most common component to fail in any convection oven is the convection calculator fan and they fail in every brand simply because the motor bearings fail and the motor ends up seizing and shorting out. Very few small fan motors have the good bearings in them to last reliably for years and years. It's not right to simply toss a small appliance into the land fill because a cheap part gives out when the rest of it is perfectly good and well engineered.

To fix the intermittent start button problem mentioned at end of video, I disassembled all the way to the PCB and replaced the microswitch behind the outer button. It took a steady soldering hand to do that, so find an electronics nerd friend to help out. The switch has four legs and is universally used on count less appliances of all brands. It’s so cheap that a minimum order is a dozen or more for $5 or so off Amazon.

I did a resistance/continuity check on the temperature sensor, where the connector meets the display panel (that's the easiest spot to get to the two wires going to the sensor). Mine read at 125k ohms of resistance. I also checked the thermal fuse and it was fine. I also checked a lot of the control/power circuit board, and all the variable resistors (blue capacitor looking things) were fine, the triads (heatsink bois) were fine, the resistors were fine, and even the capacitors. Notably, those yellow capacitors are X2 capacitors, they are in series with the power (power on one end, power on the other, no ground), so follow their chunky traces to know the flow of higher voltage. I had a little trouble testing the relays and transformer. Given that the device powers on, I assume my issue lies in a bad reading from the thermal sensor and displays error E05. Like on startup, everything is fine, but the device reads an unexpected reading from the temperature sensor and displays error E05. It also makes sense that the device will not allow a user to use the device when the temperature sensor is faulty because it becomes very unsafe if it were to heat uncontrolled.

Hey brother where did you get the thermostat it may be the problem with mine. It is a different model although manufacturers frequently use the same parts across there spectrum. The thermostat you speak of is I believe an electronic thermopile. It converts thermal heat into electricity in millivolts.

Hi! I too have a Breville toaster oven and when I opened it to see if I could repair it, I found a large piece of what appears to be asbestos. Its located near the wiring in the control portion. In your video and others I have watched, the asbestos is not there. Our unit, according to Breville, was manufactured in 2012. What do you suggest the average homeowner do? I have contacted Breville and their customer service person knew nothing about it but told me she would ask around and call me back. I'm still waiting. Thanks.

I have the next model up, BOV845BSS with the convection fan, about 3 yrs old max. Recently, when plugged in after a while, it buzzes at about 1710 Hz (using a Audio Spectrum Analyzer app), as recorded below. Unplugging and replugging will reset it to make it work again, however intermittently. E.g. during pre-heating, or heating up, it may just stop. Resetting it will resume its function, but I have to be around to notice when it stops to reset it. Since it still works, kind of, I don't want to throw it to the landfills. But Breville Support never explains to me the root cause, and repair cost is almost the same as getting a new one. Thus I still try to fix it, if I know the cause, and can get the replacement part. I suspect there is a loose ground some where, or loose connection (cold solder joint), but I am too busy to mess around, would rather buy a new Ninja air fryer toaster oven at Costco ($199 CAD) as the last resort. Thanks for any suggestions what the problem(s) could be! kzbin.infogKwwKOZo_p0

That shoe being there could be your bit, just have the shoe interrupt you randomly throughout your video. It sounds funny to me anyway. On the serious note thanks for posting. My breville shows E06 then locks up the display with that error code. Fan does not come on but on startup after it attempts to run it goes into error code. Display works great all touchpad buttons just the pesky error code E06.

Almost all toaster ovens are manufactured in ways that make their repair difficult. Screws are difficult to reach, as with the Breville here, or they are not driven by Phillips or flat head screw-drivers, or rivets are used that must be filed away. Also, replacement parts are not standardized when they could be easily, parts such as thermostats. One must usually by from a parts distributor who ads his markup the the manufacturer's. All this difficulty is part of the effort to make you junk yours and buy a new one. That is the American way! Sucker the public !

Use a multimeter preferably one with a buzzer, follow your multimeter's manual to set it to continuity check and then contact the two leads of the multimeter on opposite ends of the component (in this case a fuse or heating element) and listen for a buzz indicating continuity.
@dsweedler
@dsweedler 4 жыл бұрын
If you are trying to troubleshoot your Breville temp sensor, disconnect it after unplugging your toaster and following this tutorial to expose the sensor leads. Then using a DVM and set it to ohms , measure the internal resistance at room temperature. A value between 1080 to 1090 ohms at room temp is within spec. If the sensor is within spec but was not working, try cleaning the connector and board exposed metal connectors using a pencil eraser or green abrasive pad (Scotch Brite etc). Sometimes replacing and removing the connector is enough to expose clean metal and fix a continuity problem.
