I agree, I think all racing is way more similar than people like to think mainly because everyone wants to think their discipline is harder/better/more fun.

@RollinRat you mean alley cats or underground crits? alleycats are happening all the time everywhere and there are a few people in NYC trying to fill the hole of RHC
@diegosiler-gonzales34372 жыл бұрын
@RollinRat im not here for the california slander my guy - but there are tons of events in CA. SF, SAC, LA, SD the fixed scene is thriving. there are rides weekly in the bay and sac that I know of. All of is is usually announces/organized on social. Ive seen multiple tracklocross races in both the eastbay and sac the last few years pop off

Crit bike - Super basic. Every disadvantage compared to available bike tech. F1 car - The pinnacle of technology. Every advantage possible compared to street car. Comparison- 🧐 Driver/Rider skill comparable… Yes. Not here to argue, You still get a thumbs up.

Racing? I used to watch for the crashes, but now they make me cringe in sympathy. I use to race around with my car and motorcycles on the street for fun until I realized that I could hurt someone. I'd rather watch a bike, M/C or weird SF vid than a race.

I don't know why, but I was really surprised when you said that you liked F1: I guess very few people I know are into it, and none of the youtubers outside the F1 space ever mentioned it. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one

Not so sure if a) tech regulatuions drastically change every year in crits b) problems with F1 operation are due to untrained driver or uneducated driver c) ok, that one is true for EVERY sport, chess as well d) you could ever participate in F1 seld-supported, not being a part of a team e) even with help of all strength and power you can move positions up during the mid term of the F1 race, especially if you pick the wrong fuel and tyre change strategy (but yes, the mechanical is like an instant death in both) f) as many crits are ridden in specifically built invironment compared to town-based With that and some extra points in mind , I'd rather say crit racing is more like karting. And would you look at where Rad Race crit is held!

Make a video explaining why fixed gear crits are so much better than regular crits. Particularly highlighting why someone would be so passionate about fixed gear crits while having absolutely zero interest in regular crits. Just a curiosity of mine.

I've barely started the vid, but love the throwback music to days past. Also haven't paid attention to F1 since Bernie and Flav were everybody's favorite villians/anti-heroes. Leaving Max Moseley out because I'm pretty sure he was never anyone's favorite.

It's April first right?... OH that was last week! If you put Leclerc in the last place qualifier, he would not finish last nor would he win. Put the fastest guy in a crit race on the slowest bike and he might still win. Differences in equipment is huge in F!

Like F1 and biking so like any comparison. When you make a change to your bike you like to then test it to see if any average mph change. Bit like f1. In the crit racing do they hand the championship to the other guy with a lap to go?
@chazcrays81232 жыл бұрын
Indy car is more like Fixie crit and track racing, and F1 is more like road racing if you look at rules, teams, who wins with what money, etc
@davidburgess7412 жыл бұрын
Fixed gear crits would not suit me. I'm more a pursuit/time trial type rider. Above a certain gear ratio, skid braking is extremely difficult. At low intensity on the flat roads fixed gear is almost as fast as geared bikes. So much more durable and cheap to maintain. Nothing more beautiful than simplicity.

Both disciplines are exactly the same. Save the for the machines themselves. F1 cars are constantly evolving and on the cutting edge of technology. Track bikes however have remained largely unchanged for decades ? With that said I will most likely watch a Redhook Crit over an F1 race.

Is it because both of the governing bodies suck? I like fixed gear crit racing (to me) it feels like old school F1.
@lanceflare2 жыл бұрын
The biggest reason I can't get into F1 is the fact that like half the races take place in countries where basic human rights don't apply and nobody seems to give a shit. It's a highly corrupt sport. Crits on the other hand are smaller and much less about profit margins. Call me a Commie all you want, but I prefer to support sports events that do not rely on the exploitation of the poorest of people. I can respect the skill required to perform the sport at such a high level and the sheer amount of engineering going into the cars is really interesting on a scientific level, but that doesn't make up for it.
@ozenfant_ozn2 жыл бұрын
no brakes on fixies, so crits are more like nascar. omg just KIDDING!!
@glennpettersson90022 жыл бұрын
I had never contemplated the technical difficulty of riding brakeless and fast on a street circuit, having to make the corner but not lose momentum and remember your pedals are always spinning. Do you use short cranks and gear down for the corners or keep the top end speed and acceleration🤯
@edwardw26522 жыл бұрын
Most track bikes use 165 mm cranks no matter what is better for fit, so you get less pedal strike
