I haven’t seen a classic game like that in a while. Well played by all three players.

I don't remember where i read this, but once i saw someone make a comparison between republic and monarchy (or similar) regime. Basically, the logic is that a monarchy will usually either end up being very good or very bad, depending on the monarch while republics will be either slightly good or slightly bad. That's because monarchs don't really need to please most of the population and are free to enact any policies they deem needed, while republics are basically a never-ending struggle between 2 parties, and they NEED to please most people, so their decisions tend to be more populist and when they get in power, they want to stay, so they use the machine to get every advantage they can. So roughly, a good monarchy will aways be better than any republic, but a bad republic is better than a bad monarchy. That's something to think about. No government will ever be perfect, because every government is composed by humans, and we're falible. But at the same time, what the majority wants frequently isn't the best in the long term.

So my conceptualization of the solution to this is to design a system which distributes power and decisionmaking to all while also allowing merit to show us the correct decision or truth using some kind of market force. Leaving the power of decision making up to an ultimate person who decides, be they a chief, a king, a prime minister or a CEO seems suicidal in a world as complex as ours in 2023

There is actually a service out there where you can set it up where people can order you food. The service knows your address but the people ordering on your behalf never see it. It was built for streamers. I can't remember what its called at this point.

On the classic map, what's the way to make Australia work? Grab it utilizing only the bare minimum, then maintain only a minimal guard, and instead invest into an exterior position (SA or Africa being the most likely)? The thought being that Australia is only a trap if you invest too much into it. :edit: Haha, when I wrote that I hadn't watched to your excellent explanation @31:30

Glad you liked my thoughts on it. Short answer: don't.

From what I can tell you take it if it is offered to you. When you feel you have an opportunity to get out of it do so. If you find yourself without a bonus and you need somewhere to go and Australia is open, go for it. The trap is the game tends to go into a bit of good neighbour where you will fall behind. The Australia play is only really good if everyone else is hitting each other and you're gaining troops. So in lower tier games it works great because people don't know how to play nice with each other. But in higher tier play people can very much work together to get their bonus and avoid war. Which makes the Australia play no longer good.

Uh oh.. i recognised that name. Firstly, my apologies for the way I ended our alliance there Pete. I wasn't wholly concentrating on the game hence the 10 v 8 and its not how i set out to play. But I didn't expect to be your blood enemy, i hope we're cool 😅

Hey Pete. An interesting long stalemate game indeed. I'm just thinking the logic here, what makes Green attacked Red instead of you (Blue) at 1:58:00 ? - Your troop counts are similar - Number of territories are similar - Only that you are generating 1 less bonus than Red (SA+NA vs Europe+Africa) Or could it be that Green has some revenge for Red's earlier actions in the game? Or at this point it is just a 50/50 coin toss? 🤔🤔🤔

Late to the party, but when red was asking for you to attack green, he should have card block by splitting stack. That would have forced half stack attack by green potentially!
