I needed to use this trimmer for the first time. First time for any trimmer, in fact. It belongs to my son, who's not in town, but my yard was looking like the little shop of horrors so I had to figure it out. Of course it had no trimmer string in it :) With your instructions though, I was able to load the string and actually use it. The string I purchased was round, not triangular, and when I heard you recommend triangular I thought heck, I messed up. But it worked just fine. Thank you! Sincerely, 69-year-old Tool-Avoidant Female.

You can use a flat-head screwdriver to press in each tab and gently pry down to begin getting the cap off. From there you can pull it off by hand.

I’ve done that exactly what you’re doing I can’t get mine to release string as I’m using it. I’ve got to take it back out pull more string out
@FixEverythingYourself4 ай бұрын
If the string isn't wound very neatly or if one layer of string "pinches" a layer of string underneath, the pinching will cause the string to be stuck and not release. This isn't uncommon. Recommend redoing it.

Question: is this trimmer supposed to have a spring for the bump head to work properly? Mine didn’t seem to come with a spring, and my past gas powered trimmers had a spring-loaded bump-action line feeder. Is this bump head supposed to work without a spring? Because my trimmer line does not feed at all, and I’m using the correct line size… super frustrated, weed wacking takes forever since I have to manually pull out line every 5 minutes… thanks for any help you can give!
@FixEverythingYourself8 ай бұрын
Well, I haven't physically seen the spring but I can feel the bump-head feature has a spring within it, so yeah. The center black piece that would bump the ground is springy on mine, so there must be a spring inside there. If yours isn't springy, that's likely the problem.

I just changed the line on mine and I took that centerpiece out. There is definitely a spring under there

I’m having issues with the weed eater staying running. I’ve taken the spool out to troubleshoot buy running it without the spool and the bumper and spring will fly out, I’m not sure what this may be. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks
@FixEverythingYourself10 ай бұрын
Is the battery dying? What happens when you run it with all the parts installed but no string? Another thing to look at is whether there's grass stuck around the spool head anywhere. This could cause a lot of resistance that the battery can't overcome. So clean out any grass if there is any.
@k.michelle778810 ай бұрын
@@FixEverythingYourself Hello thank you for your quick response, I apologize I’m just seeing this! But luckily for me it was still under warranty and I was able to just switch it out. Without the string in it it would run momentarily but then the bumper piece/knob that snaps down with a spring would just fly off. I’m not sure if something was broken but I just couldn’t figure it out. And if I remember correctly without that bumper piece it would continue running.

Thank you!!! 😊 RELIEF!!! 😅Weed Eating has been my nemesis with that darn string. It’s so frustrating winding over and over again because I wasn’t doing it properly. That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to have problems again because I did cross the string and yes, it is hard to not cross the string while winding. Err, it is Frustrating 😩. 🤞 Here’s to hope it doesn’t happen again until I get a new roll.

So I’ve done it, and my twine keeps coming out in the middle of weed eating and cuts the motor off….is there a solution? I’m winding it in the direction of the arrow I just don’t know what’s going on.
@FixEverythingYourself4 ай бұрын
Hmmm. That's odd. You're losing all of the string really early after restringing? Usually that's because the string is wound the wrong way on the spool. Are you 100% sure it's being wound as I show in the video and the inner plastic piece is in the same orientation as in the video when you wind it? If so, my only other thought is to ensure you're using the right thickness string, but i doubt thats the cause. Sorry I don't have a better solution.

I am unable to find the link you mentioned for the other style head that holds the spool. If you could reply or post it that would be great. My kobalt 24 volt electric string trimmer is about one year old and Lowes only stocks the unit you demonstrated. Lowes also doesn't stock any replacement parts for my unit nor could they recommend anything or stock a universal spool or bottom parts or a source to buy them. Also, thanks for the tip regarding the three sided string only. You probably saved myself and others hours of more wasted time changing string. My unit will not cut St. Augustine runners and only slaps them silly. Also, the bump feed never worked correctly. I knew I should have bought a new gas powered unit instead.
