I am an 80 year old woman who has been gifted a Kobalt weedeater and have used it enough that the string was used up and needed new string.I followed your instruction video and was able to do it myself. Thank you.

if all the parts work OK, you are done. But they do NOT always work as expected... and how many owners have the instruction manual several years after buying the trimmer and the cutting string runs out?
@richhare37652 жыл бұрын
I've had the Kobalt 40v Trimmer for about a year and ever since I've had it I've found it difficult adding new line. Looking at the scant directions in the manual was of little help. Your video offered clear and concise directions which I quickly replicated. Thank you for posting this video.

Is there a way to replace the whole spool since they sell pre-strung spools or do you have to just re-string it?
@FixEverythingYourself6 ай бұрын
I don't think this spool is intended to be replaced every time string runs out. Other trimmers have replacement spools but this is meant to be re-strung.

Thank you for making a quick and precise video. I can confirm the first method works for an 80V as well. One thing i noticed that varied, my bump know was so scratched and scoured that i couldnt see the arrow. You can rotate the knob while looking through the eyelet until you see the passthrough hole, and it worked like a charm. Cheers

This weed eater sucks to high heaven. This is season number 2 for me using it as a private owner. When I feed the string through the hole and try to turn the knob counterclockwise to retract the string, the whole weed eater starts to turn and fall to the floor or slide off the table. And if that's not enough, when I have someone helping me and they hold the string out to the side while I take pliers to try to rotate the knob it just makes a clicking sound and the string never retracts. Thanks for taking the time to make the video it does confirm that I'm doing it right but I'm sure it's helpful for others. I am going to see how hard option two is

The one thing he didn't show or perhaps understand is that in the center spindle, there is a channel for the line to travel from one side to the other. You can see the channel hole at 2:31 in his video. The reason he is lining up the arrows on the spindle case is to insure the medal feed slots are directly over the channel if you lined them up correctly. Once you shove the half the line through the channel, you can then crank the spindle to retract the new line.

Thank you for the vid because the manual doesn't explain things well at all. Doesn't even describe the "easy" version which makes it pointless. As a side note for anyone who is struggling to keep the spool tight while securing it, there are slots on the "top" of the spool that you can temp feed the string into to secure it, then slip it off and through the eyelit when ready to install.

Love this. I got the weed-eater restrung without opening it!!! I'm so excited to have learned that., Could you help me with one more thing? I try tapping it to get more string but it doesn't work for me. Am I too weak? What is the trick to getting it to feed string?
@FixEverythingYourself2 жыл бұрын
Make sure the weedeater is spinning pretty fast when you tap it. Also, you may have to tap it harder. I try to find a patch of grass to tap it on, and sometimes it does take a somewhat hard tap (more of a bang than a tap). That should work and you should hear the string getting chopped off by the small cutting blade on the shroud. You should also see small pieces of string on the ground when it works correctly.
