My Father had a 1948 8N tractor. It was an absolute workhorse! We had a bush hog we used with the PTO to cut the lawn in our field. We connected a plow blade to the 3 point hitch to clear snow. Just a great machine!

I bought a 1948 from a guy that rebuilds them and no matter when I go out to start it, it fires right up, love it and will never get rid of it. Unbelievable how this tractor was built so solid.

I worked for a marketing company that supported part sales for New Holland Corp, which owned the Ford tractor line at that time. (early 2000's). Parts for 8 & 9 N tractors were still a major seller even though they hadn't been produced for over 50yrs.

I have a lot of childhood memories with a tractor like this. My granddad had it for over 50 years, did all the work himself. The guy he sold to restored it.

They are all worth fixing and restoring. I recently bought a 8N and I love it. Most of them need lots of work to bring them up to specs but they are definitely worth it. Parts are cheap and you can find them everywhere.

The 60" rear discharge Woods mower is THE perfect mower for the N tractor. Ive got 40+ years on these tractors and have used about every mower out there. Best combo there is for that tractor. Period.

Same, His had a Sherman forklift attachment for his sawmill. Backwards steering was crazy to go from that to normal lol. And with the weight bias steering would get caught up on rocks in the yard, So you didn't hold the wheel tight.

Nice restore. But I prefer the original colors and Ford stamped fenders. The all grey reminds me of a military vehicle. Hope you enjoy this classic tractor and get many years of use.

For my lawn tractor, a FarmAll A, I went to the local motorcycle shop and picked up used motorcycle tire cast offs, they have a rounded shoulder that does not gouge into the turf / sod and they are free !

For whats it worth. Back in my time we would put a half cup of course ground black pepper in the cooling system and let it run at idle until the crack in block plugs up from the pepper. Worked 90% of the time and lasted.

Cast iron block cracks can be welded. Or if cleaned up and roughened up a bit, JB Weld Steel, reinforced with fiberglass cloth.

Excellent video. I always look at the wheel lugs to determine if it's a 9N/2N or an 8N (the 9N/2N has the lugs much farther out from the hub).

If the engine runs, it's not junk. Weld up the crack, make a new head gasket from gasket material and gasket sealer.
