There is one small 8 pin IC on the board that you need to re-solder (I can't remember it's name but I think Q201). Just cover the pins in solder flux and wet all the pins with a decent small tip soldering iron by pulling it away from the IC. The legs ones on the radio I worked on today were floating above the PCB. You can use a pair of tweezers on the IC and gently pull it up to see if all the legs are firmly soldered onto the PCB to verify.

I had this issue with my 2011 F150 and this video was a life saver. All the radio repair has cost me so far is a few drops of blood (still finding them in random places on the dash), 1 - 7mm dash bolt that was supposed to go back by the cigarette lighter (but is now rattling around under the dash) and a radio label that now looks like a Shrinky Dink. My radio did crap out 2 weeks after baking it. It crackled like the speakers blew and then radio went dead again. I was gonna re-bake it but turned out to be OK. My suggestion is Do Not Disconnect The Battery. The battery terminals on my truck are really finicky so I left it connected out of laziness. Oddly enough, when I was removing the radio from the dash to bake it again the damned thing turned on. Startled the crap out of me. Evidently, I must've jostled it just enough to re-seat whatever had come loose. I don't think it was any of the connections in the back of the radio though. I put everything back together and it worked fine for about a month. It then randomly cut out a few times (after the same crackling noise like the speakers had blown) but would go back on a few seconds later. Then it progressed to crapping out completely but turning on fine again when I restarted the truck! It died again yesterday. Wouldn't restart so I was gonna bake it again today. Sure enough, I took the dash off, started to remove the radio and it kicked on a again. Works fine now. I'm guessing there is a kink somewhere that is causing a random disconnection. Doubt I'll ever find it. The moral of the story is, leave the power connected. Your dead radio may just be a loose wire.

thanks so much for this video! the disassembly of the radio was much appreciated but I want to give you a heads up, after watching a couple of othe videos I noticed that you quoted a cooler temperature than several of the others stated so I went online and found out that it's actually 385 f. also when you take the large heatsync off the one side there some white "grease" on it this is a thermal product and I suggest you buy some to add to it so that those 3 components don't overheat causing further problems

What whould you do if someone was trying to save time and put the entire radio in the oven, and there was allot of smoke then stuff was oozing out of the bottom just before two very loud popping sounds and a very small fire that was put out quickly, asking for a friend.

If this problem is constantly happening like it did to me.. well you have to replace the radio.. it is what it is at this point.. I got one for 250.00 cdn, as I live in Canada, some steering controls don’t work but I deal.. Bluetooth most of the time so phone control is primary :)

I don’t know if I ever touched on the PAC modules you can buy for the fords.. if you want to go after market (in Canada anyways) to retain steering controls you require, 2 PAC controllers, easily findable online, most car audio shops won’t touch them where I’m from. They cost roughly 200-250 a pack, and then you need the dash kit, and the deck.. dash kit not overly expensive can’t remember the price, and the deck well. That’s on you and preference, back up camera could probably be moved if you Have one in the mirror on the 12’. **please remember this is a dyi video that I just decided to do to help the average joe. I’m still working on the sub woofer video as I’m watching battery % drop over a period of time, to see whether you require a capacitor. As of now I wanna say you won’t require one. Please stay tuned. 😊

I have a 2014 F-150 with this issue and I'm doing my research before I go through with it. Several videos on KZbin saying the oven works fine... why is it that you say you need a toaster oven? What's the difference as it pertains to baking the pcb?
@soups8307
@soups8307 2 жыл бұрын
The only reason I use a toaster oven is, the radio sits closer to elements so it heats quicker and you don’t have to heat up the whole oven. Smaller space. You could use oven but pre heat would be smart I’m guessing.
@lukecash6856

@soups8307

You can try a regular oven, but it’s because it a smaller area to concentrate heat. Maybe increase the time in the oven to allow it to get to temperature.

Dude great video, I also don’t doubt the oven works, my only thought is, if it’s only going to work for maybe 2 days, 2 weeks or even a month, it’s not worth my trouble. Believe me I don’t have much $ either, but this just happened to mine. Any chance it’ll work tomorrow? 😅
@soups8307

I mean, when it first happened to me i checked all possible routes to avoid this. Being from Canada things are a little more costly cause everything I need to retain steering controls, and Bluetooth and so on are 300.00 bucks without install, and that doesn’t include the deck or the wiring kit or the dash kit lol! And I mean this toaster oven idea I came across on a forum.. well worked. And we’ll it work a few more times but... now I’m poonched haha! Good thing buddy has a guy that can get one for 250.00 cdn better than fords 450.00!

@@paulmenard4114 yes, there is a trim kit for the 09-14, but again retaining the steering controls for the volume and track skip and Bluetooth are the costly part. Is there any forums out there telling how long this fix lasts for? Is it a temp fix and you’ll have to do this once a week or once a year? I just had to replace my door blend actuator yesterday and I wish I woulda found this radio solution while I already had the dash apart.
@soups8307
@soups8307 3 жыл бұрын
It is a temp fix... I’ve read online that some guys last for a few months some a couple days. But beware you can only do this about 4-5 times before the board will just die out, I’ve also come to an idea that my aftermarket sub with RCA converter may have killed the radio. But that remains undetermined at this time lol. I’ll figure that out with the used radio I slipped in last night lol!
