Fixing A Broken Power Window 2002 Saab 9-5 Turbo - EricTheCarGuy
www.ericthecarg...
Well it's not often I see a Saab at the shop but this one showed up with a broken passenger window that came off of it's track. The fix was surprisingly affordable with this one and fairly easy to do with a little time and effort. Enjoy.

I am in love with you (Eric & JXC) for posting this! I have not been able to find the part ANYWHERE! No dealers could get it, no parts stores could get it. I started to search Google and voila! The video came up and now the parts are on their way. =D Thank you so much!

Eric, I have this exact problem on my 2003 9-5 Aero Wagon and my daughter told me to search on the internet. That brought me here. So now I have to verify that the rollers have failed. All in all a great instructional video. A little dark on my screen. Maybe you can get some more light or step up the exposure of the camera 1.0 or 1.5. steps. To avoid losing things, I attach them to blue painter's tape and label them. Same idea for the plugs, but as you say at 15:58 "But where's the fun in that"!

Enjoyed the video. I had the same problem with my Peugeot 306. The dealer wanted to sell me a new regulator. So I fixed the clip with a screw and plastic steel. I think the better the parts supply the better the car!

This is a great tutoria Eric thank you! I did it on my driver's side door and it was almost identical. There are 2 small differences. 1 is that the mirror selector and director is attached to the top black molding piece. I just left it in and once the molding was detached from the door, just moved it out of the way with the wires still attached. The other difference is the buttons for the gas tank door and trunk. The connectors for these just pop right out! Other than that, exact same thing!

I got a Saab 9-3 Convertible, very similar to the 9-5. (except, ofcourse, it is convertible. lol) well anyway, eversince i got the car the pasenger window would not go up all the way. always stuck 1/4 inch, would push it up by hand as i pushed the button to completely close it. it wasnt until i watched Eric's video on the Honda window runner. He said "Silicone Spray". i ran out that night (1:30am) to walmart, grabbed some silicone spray ($2.50). has been working perfect eversince! thanks ETCG! :)

My father helped with the head gasket, one was blown on a subaru...I like the comment of 'while Im here might as well fix the other one" we did that, while we had the engine apart, might as well fix the other side, even though the gasket wasnt cracked. Thanks to your video, Im doing this to the SAAB 9-5 sitting in the driveway with a bag over the window. lol! stay dirty! ha!

Bill Snethkamp Dodge in Lansing was a former Saab dealer, but they still service Saabs. However, if it's a window repair you need I'd think twice about taking it to a dealership. BOTH of the front windows in my 2001 9-5 wagon were broken so I took it to them. They charged me almost $400 to do the driver's window, so I told them I didn't want the other one fixed. After watching this video I am going to try the passenger window repair myself.

The ignition key is in the console in Saabs because their crash testing came up with the possibility of your right knee crashing into the key if the ignition was in the steering column as in most cars. In a really bad crash the key ends up pretty much going into the knee so they put the key where it really could do no harm. They also go way above & beyond the min. rollover standards. The old 900s could support 2 times the weight of the car upside down w/o roof collapse. pretty cool

Amazing video. Great advice! There was a comment at the end about aligning something to make it easier. Eric meant to align the rollers at an angle to make it easy to push the retaining pins in before snapping in the balls into the rollers. Lifting the bottom window squeezee out of the door as the window is slid into it gave more room for the aluminum window holders. How about silicon tent spray and a paper towel for lubricant?

Thank you Eric for such a detailed video. I have a 2001 9-5 and indeed, it is the rubber (track?) on the door that seem to start the problem. I have to fix it again but this time, thanks to you, I will know to apply that silicone around the rubber. Thank you again!

Video was very helpful. I had to change out the rollers on both driver and passenger side on my 2000 Saab 93. Driver's side took a bit longer, found that was easier to seat the window in the fully up position before snapping in the rollers. I also left the clips on the rollers and snapped them home with a pair of pliers. Passenger window went much faster. Kudos and please produce more!

Just a note for somebody who may try this, the metal clips should NOT be removed from the green rollers before installing, they're designed to be left in place so when you pop the arm in they lock, and it's a pain to try to get them in after the fact. Also, be aware that there's a some plastic/rubber guide that sometime falls off, that is supposed to hold the glass in place in the side guides. I went through this once and had to do it again because the windows fell off the tracks.

Thanks again.

I also found out that you don't have to remove the metal clip to get the window out. You can push the closed end of the clip toward the plastic mount, that will cause the open end of the clip to ride up onto the mount further and spread out the clip, then the pin will come out of the clip.

Thanks for the vid! Just watched yours and FCP Euro's vids, and then this as an insurance policiy, and went at it onmy 9-5. All fixed up. Easy? No. But hard? No. not with these vids for a guide. I cant stress this enough though: Make sure your window gets fully back on the weatherstripping! Mine, while putting the glass in, shoved the rubber track at th e back side of the glass out of its channel. When I rolled the window down it bunched all that rubber up inside the door. had to take the rollers etc back off, remove glass, and fix all that rubber. Then carefully inserted the glass again, making sure it seated right. After that it was gravy.
