I'm back with another helmet build! This time I printed a 332nd Clone helmet from the last season of The Clone Wars. The audio is once again a bit wonky as I continue to figure out the best setup for all of this but I figured it was better to publish as is to get it out there :) STILL LEARNING! haha
Let me know if you have any questions or comments down below, especially if you plan on making one of these helmets yourself!

Great job!! The weathering you did for it looks pretty great and honestly the problems at the bottom of the helmet from the print helped give off the final shot look you were going for.

2 quick questions, do you sand after applying filler primer, or only after adding bondo? Also, what is the rough ratio of black acrylic to water for weathering? Thank you!!

I sand both after applying filler primer as well as after the bondo! as for the ratio of the acylic wash ehhhhh I am not entirely sure

Question: Is it okay to print some pieces in pla and some in abs? Will it still turn out ok? I'm asking because my school's pla printer takes FOREVER and only prints good 1/2 the time, but I've made a few pieces on there already. The abs printer can print pla and it prints super nice and fast, should I keep it all the same, or okay to print with different filament?
@vaultfox
@vaultfox 3 жыл бұрын
hmmm, that's a good question. I don't *think* it would be an issue, you just would have to be aware of the glues you use to put them together (I know some use a special ABS/Alcohol method to 'weld' prints together, but it wouldnt work to glue ABS to PLA)
@Shane-RocketMan
@Shane-RocketMan 3 жыл бұрын
@@vaultfox Alright thanks! My school's printers are ancient (like 10 years old) so they're frustrating, but when they spit out a perfect part of the helmet it's a great feeling. Hopefully I can get all the pieces printed before I graduate in 25 days.

At the time of filming this I had a Creality Cr10, but honestly I’d recommend starting with the CR10S or above. The CR10 is a good printer but there have been lots of upgrades since

Apparently my printer printed the my front and back and little off and if I a line the top of the front and back, then, the bottom is off by about 1 1/2 inches. Do you have any idea what I should do? Edit: I saw you used a heat gun to force your back into place, but I don’t have a heat gun, any other ideas?
@vaultfox
@vaultfox 3 жыл бұрын
it sounds like your print bed might not be perfectly level in terms of the print, but other than a heat gun I'm not sure of another way to force them into place with each other

I am thinking of getting the creality cr-10. Can you do a video of explaining how to use it please? ( The program you use and how to add supports etc. )
@vaultfox
@vaultfox 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! That was actually on my list to do but I'll move it up. I promise it's a lot easier to use than you think, I was mostly worried having a 3D printer would be a more evil version of a regular printer and ... honestly sometimes it is and you can't help that, but once you have it set up know how to do basic maintenance, you'll be good :)

Ok! Does your CR10 have a run out sensor or did you just have enough per roll?
@vaultfox
@vaultfox 3 жыл бұрын
So at the time of making this video, I was using a CR10 and it didnt have a runout sensor. Over the years I’ve gotten “decent” at gauging how much filament is left on a roll. If I had to switch filament during a print, I just made sure to plan my print time for when I could monitor it and change it before the filament ran out.

@vaultfox
@vaultfox 3 жыл бұрын
I can understand that, just make sure you’re in a well ventilated area while using it (and wear a mask rated for fumes). If you’re already getting a finished helmet from Etsy, I would actually recommend this type of bondo as it’s more made for filling tint scratches. I was using this heavier duty stuff because of my printers misgivings lol amzn.to/3l8FY4i
