Fixing a cracked Strat Style Body - With Chair Glue - BORIS!

Trying out something new today, had a decent start style body, However someone had jammed the wrong neck into it and made some fairly significant cracks in the body so i glued them up with Veritas Chair Doctor Glue from Lee Valley, It worked really well and I will now be able to get this guitar playing again.

Nice job my son just cracked his ibanez pgm I gave him for Christmas I think he might have sat on it or something he's 9 and wont tell me lol . I just showed him your video fixing yours . It seemed to make him a little happier . Hopefully he takes better care of it this time Lol . Thanks for the video

Neck was to big for the socket to small for the neck, tight bolts put on the pressure and wham! a crack appears. To fix drill a small hole to stop cracking spread. Inject glue into crack& holes, use toothpicks or wooden dowels to fill holes , clamp, finish and done. Sand neck and pocket for smooth fit. Snug not to tight.

You hit the nail on the head. The neck pocket was too tight so that was addressed. But using the chair glue avoided the need to drill holes, has held up well without drilling. This was a guitar I got out of the garbage to try and fix and wasn't willing to put all the effort required to fix "properly". The value for my time just wasn't there. This was a cheap import pancake body and if I didn't like the burst I probably would've just kept it in the garbage. This was an experiment to see how little I could do and have a functioning repair. And it's held up so far so I'm happy with it.

Does this swell the wood grain?

Yes it is supposed to swell the fibers,

Is cracks in electric guitar bodies common? Can they crack on their own like acoustics (weather, humidity) or do they need an impact

Definently not as common as acoustics, but neck heel cracks are fairly common. this was a bit of an extreme example.

Yes, fairly common if the guitar has been dropped. I have 2 strats that have cracks originating from the neck pocket. Fix them early or wait and it'll spread since the guitar is under string tension.

Should I use this glue or normal wood glue?

Well if you can get regular wood glue to penetrate the joint it should work well for you, this glue is a very thin wood glue and I have used it a few times for tight cracks or separated fingerboards and has held up well.
