Fixing a Damaged Snowmobile Crankshaft (Without The Proper Tools)

In this video I fix the damaged crankshaft from my blue mod sled. Not an instructional video because I'm pretty sure its not going to work right.

Thank you for the video! As a broke college student who can't find a proper crank rebuilder for my Ski-Doo Formula III, and who understands the risks of doing this, I am still wanting to try it with my tight budget. I have one crank with bad mag side mains, and another crank with a bad rod bearing on the PTO side. In other words, I have 2 cranks broken in different locations and am trying to make one good one. I have access to presses and pullers at mechanic school. Lets see what happens.

Update: Formula III 600 test run with jerry rigged crankshaft coming soon. Test Fire was OK. I have nothing to lose. If she blows, I can part it out and make money back.

Just a suggestion, if you take a dremel or even i chisel and stamp a line on the crank pieces before you take it apart you'll have a line to match up during reassembly.

Hey Adam, great videos, working on a phaser of my own... I have a leaky tach at the oil pump and gear assembly. Do you have any idea on how to remove the tach's driven worm gear that spins the tach cable, My tach driven gear has corrosion at the base, under the boot and will destroy the new rubber seal I purchased. I need to remove the old one and inset a new one. Looks to be a pressure fit bushing that holds the the driven worm gear down in place, any idea on how to remove the bushing without breaking anything?

Got myself an 1989 Phazer recently and am planning to do some maintenance on it. Almost got the engine out as I'm typing this but I'm not sure if I wanna restore the top end or the entire engine with the crank as well. Only problem is that the crank bearings are hella expensive, about 60$ per bearing and then I must be able to pull the crank apart and then put it back together. I want the sled to run flawlessly for a few years at least, so I'm not sure what to do.

I have always took the crank to a motorcycle shop and let them do it a make sure it's right

Possible to replace the outer 3 crank bearings without a puller? Heat them up?

Well I successfully pulled this off at my own discretion. The sled runs like a top now. Sadly the track broke at about 90MPH. Gives me an excuse to modify it 😂

If you're spending the $ on the pistons, etc. get the crank redone at a shop, your engine will be brand new! Its going to fail :( Speaking from experience, lol Nice effort, though!

No builds as of right now, was hoping to get something newer but the used Market is a little crazy. So for now I'm just waiting for snow so I can go riding but still looking for deals
