Using mostly materials laying around in my garage, I repair this dented and mildly collapsed rim. Was it a little wabbly in the end? Yes. Could I feel it on the trails? Nope. :)

It's been going strong for over a year now. I was actually looking at new rims today. I'll get around to fixing it for real eventually. :)

I applaud you for repairing it especially in this through away society. That's motivation to try and fix it until it's unsafe.

Who said it was safe? 😉 it's actually held up great and I don't baby it at all.

Dude, this beautiful 4k movie demonstrates the tender love you have for your wheel. I also came here thinking I'd see the crescent/pliers method only to be mesmerized by a class of effort and sophistication that ones loved ones should receive. Watching you shred through the trail and that same rock garden descent at the end was award winning 🎉🎉🎉 and truly a thing of beauty. You are one of a kind Sir! God bless you

Impressive! Riveting! A tale of one man's harrowing experience in the wilderness and defying all odds to get back up on that bike. Also, some pretty impressive woodworking techniques.

Love the effort. I only clicked on it cause I have fixed so many bead bends myself. Nice job!!

Thanks! This was my first rim repair. I probably put too much effort into it, but I only spent eight bucks to fix it. 😊

I was actually saving my money to buy my kid a new bike. He's had his bike for a year now, I still run that janky rim. 😆

I like your work reapring that rim but I think it can be dangerous, is'nt it?
@TheSaucyMTBr7 ай бұрын
They say mountain biking can be dangerous, but we don't listen to them do we? 😉 Honestly, at the time I repaired this rim, I was being cheap because I was saving up to buy my kid a new bike. That said, I'm still riding it and it's been almost a year. ... I might be more apprehensive if it was my front tire.

Years ago I normally rode my daughter with me on the bike and I had done a repair by re-welding the fork but it ended up breaking and it was not in the mountains but doing some errands and we both fell but I think I put my daughter at risk, fortunately Nothing happened to us, just the scare in a congested place, I had to walk at least three kilometers to get home and I understood that safety comes first, but thank to share your experience. @@TheSaucyMTBr

the rim is knackered - safer to replace it

The logical side of me agrees with you. However, this rim is kind of like that three-legged puppy you see struggling on the side of the road. It just needs somebody to believe in it.

Just goes to show that steel rims are clearly more durable in the first place.

Is this rim that expensive? simply buy new one.

New rim is about $100, but at the time I was saving to buy my kid a new bike. The kid now has his bike and the rim is still holding up, so why waste money? Besides, the satisfaction in spending 10+hours at 2am each night to save a buck is totally worth it. 😉
