It's amazing how much the bottom culvert filled in over the last 2 years. When I owned this property, drainage was always a nightmare and it's good to see the current owner is able to address it. Mike you should have texted me and I could have told you what you'd find with that junction box. I see that there aren't any less rocks in that hillside than there used to be!

Cap’n it is with honor that I advise you that the bell of the pipes were installed in the KZbin appropriate direction. Thank you for not reversing them just to get clicks, likes and comments! Long before ratchet straps were conceived… my neighbor came up with his own tree repair ingenuity. A huge catalpa tree had split down the center from the fork about 16’ from the ground. It stood about four foot from where he had just framed in his new pole barn. My dad and the other neighbor, who were helping build the barn, offered to cut it down before finishing the build…. But the owner said, Nope! It’s the only tree on this lot. And, I’m gonna need its shade for the barn. So, they grabbed an old truck axle, buried it in the ground, straight away from the barn. Grabbed a couple of guy wire cables the phone company had used on old telephone poles… one wire was fashioned into a lasso around the split. The other was attached to the axle. In between he put a small chain-fall come along. When he drew it tight, it cinched the lasso noose and closed the gap. He then installed a cable throttle above it with a turnbuckle to hold it secure. After I went to high school I went back to my old childhood farm to fish in the creek… we stopped by the tree to gather Catalpa worms for bait. The cable throttle, lasso, chain-fall come along and axle stake were still there. The barn was still under the shade of the tree… some how it had grown around the contraption and had accepted it as just part of its being… and gave us a bounty of worm to catch our limit of catfish and perch! I wonder if trees will prove to be so accepting of ratchet strap repairs???

The glaciers that flattened the northern 2/3 of Indiana pushed several cubic miles of rocks into southwestern Indiana. I used to have an apartment between Indy and Purdue where the tallest thing for 200 miles west of that apartment was the WalMart across the highway. Now, I own some property about 80 or so miles north of the good Cap'n that has a steeper slope than most of the roofs I've lived under :)
