Excellent explanation. This “simple” circuit can cause a lot of frustration. Thank you.

I have replaced my ignition switch in my 1931 Model A, with the switch attached to instrument panel, on /off plate facing you, red wire on left- black cable wire on right, that's how I got it wired, the wiring diagrams are a little confusing, I have ordered a new distributor, I want to make sure I have it wired correctly, Is this the correct way?

Well done and nice explanation of what goes where and why. Indeed, many Model A's electrical systems are wonky due to "experimentation" by previous owners. When they're assembled the way they were when new, they run fine and dependably.

Thank You Thank You Thank You. I got my Model A running today after being down for over a year. I was chasing all kinds of ignition problems before I figured out the switch was bad. I got a switch from Bert's Model A's, but I didn't understand about the armored cable and how that worked. I was busy at work, so that project got pushed to the back of the garage. Now that winter is over, I decided to try again. I consulted the Oracle and sum of human knowledge (KZbin), that''s when I found you. I got the replacement cable with the pigtail you showed me, and followed your instructions. It was easy once I understood what I was dealing with. Now I'm going to tackle my non-working speedometer. I got a new cable and it makes the head move a little, so I think the problem is the gear in the transmission. Any advice? Thank You for what you do for people like me...Ken

Great explanation of the original system. I have a Model A that was already converted to 12V Neg ground and wanted to add 12V switched accessory. I'm and electrician/electronics tech and it took a bit to get my head around why it was connected the way it was. Wish I saw this video first.

Great job! My guess is that the old distributor housing and plate were a matched set. If you still have the parts, check the fit, maybe the old housing has some feature that located the plate that the new housing lacks. :)

I couldn't help but notice. When you reinstalled distributor moved it around and then did not check the timing why

Replace both bearings, when the armature touches or rubs the field shoes, it's over.
