Thank you from France. I have subtitles turned on, and they often say [Applause] and I wondered why... then realised it's interpreting passing traffic as applause😅! So when you're beavering away and are perhaps annoyed at the traffic, just think of it as people rushing by applauding you!
@MrGoosePit6 ай бұрын
I've seen "applause" several times watching c.c. videos. Sometimes they appear at the most inopportune times and are quite funny. At first I just thought whoever did the c.c. was being sarcastic, but like you said "applause" was being auto-generated. lol

I have a 2019 E130, the starter cranks and spins, but doesn't engage the fly wheel. I just replaced the starter earlier this year. There is some gunk, something from what I think was some mice that built a nest under the cover when the mower sat for a chunk of the summer due to not needing to mow due to the heat.

Hey young man; As always great walk thru. IF I can run mine by ya; I have a Toro 54 zero turn. New Battery mid summer. For the past summer the mower will "hard click" at solenoid. Sometimes it fires right up but it's a real hit and miss. I checked 12+- v at solenoid from Battery. Key to start -on starter side of solenoid same results hit miss more miss. I unhooked power cord from starter and I get 12 +- volt every time I key to start position. Hook the starter back up and It's back to same issue. I'm stuck. Best; Tom

Thanks for another great and useful video, Don! So if it didn't turn over and still clicked after you jumped the solenoid, would you replace the starter? Or would further testing be necessary?
@blackenedmagic8886 ай бұрын
No further testing would be necessary as long as the wires to the starter are ok - you would just replace the starter. However, if the solenoid doesn't click when the key is turned to the start position, it's not necessarily the solenoid - it could be one of the safety switches or the wiring to or from said switches. One of my brother-in-laws had a riding lawnmower that would start by jumping the solenoid, but not with the key, and the problem turned out to be the blade engagement switch. We took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts and the mower fired right up. In this video, the solenoid has two wires - the black one is the ground and the purple one is called the "signal" wire. When you turn the key to start it, the signal wire sends 12V to a coil in the solenoid, energizing it, which allows the battery voltage to be applied at the starter. If there is anything wrong with any of the safety switches and their corresponding circuits, you won't get the required 12V from the signal wire and the mower won't start.

Cutting the tabs off the bracket will expose virgin steel to the elements, leading to accelerated corrosion. The bracket has corrosion-resistant coating from the factory. Great video!

@beegekhaos31713 ай бұрын
Since the solenoid is clicking, that confirms to you all of the safetys and the fuse are good, right? And if the solenoid doesn't click (the problem I'm having now) it could be a bad solenoid or safety, correct? If it turns over when the solenoid is jumped, the issue could still be a safety, or solenoid, but definitely not the starter. Because the starter is spinning. -- I think i understand it, but I'm just not having the same results

I would say you HAVE TO remove the negative cable from the battery - too easy to have a short otherwise
@CraigArndt6 ай бұрын
You don’t have to. Disconnect the leads move them out of the way and pull it out. Nothing is going to short out.
@davidquinn61616 ай бұрын
Very dangerous idea. It;s quite easy to short out when using a flat wrench ( not everyone has sockets and a ratchet ). Plus that wire from the battery is easy to accidental short to the mower frame when removing and re installing the solenoid. An exploding battery is no fun.

Every farm boy watching this has done this many times using their pliers across a starter. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do

Not to nit pick, but I would also have checked for a solid ground on the black wire and 12V on the purple wire when in the "start" position. Sometimes a bad key switch can interfere with the 12V solenoid position and prevent it from starting.
@blackenedmagic8886 ай бұрын
Not only that, but if there was a problem with any of the safety switches or their wiring, you wouldn't get 12V on the purple wire either.
@videodistro6 ай бұрын
The fact that it was turning over and STARTING while jumping the solinoid was enough to show it was the solinoid. The other checks would could have been helpful if it DIDN'T start. He did the easiest and fastest test first.
@blackenedmagic8886 ай бұрын
@@videodistro You're partially correct. If it didn't start (or at least turn over) by jumping the solenoid, it would mean either the starter was bad or something wrong with the wiring going to the starter - nothing else can cause it. Because the solenoid clicked when he tried to start it with a key, automatically means the purple wire has 12V going to it - it wouldn't click at all if there was no voltage.
@jakeschisler75256 ай бұрын
So it probably didn't need a new battery
