OM6111 an engine to be proud of as a German its one of the best engines we made in the last 25 years id say. For the amount of them build and sold you see very little of them with issues that are more than a simple fix. Its a dead simple engine too going by modern standards. But in the big heavy Vans they are stressed a lot more than in a C-Class for example, good oil and not being too hard on the engine is important here.

Brilliant!!! Loved watching this video simple old school mechanic getting it all pulled to bits and sorted in no time and great job, mad to find that piston like that, I’ve just bought a T1N with 126k on it which I think is well low miles but its absolutely smoking its balls off, was sold to me with injector issue which I thought ok maybe it is maybe it isn’t. Anyway on pulling inlet manifold off and covers etc I’ve looked and it’s just like yours not a single instance of any Black Death or anything and all the injectors look absolutely mint, all test out electrically with resistances etc. so not injectors I’m guessing some sort of air intake sensor maybe it’s smoking on idle and lumpy as hell, when driven on motorway which is did drive home from Scotland to Manchester haha it’ll run ok then struggle up hills going back on to what feels like 3 cylinder but could be limp mode I suppose. Where would you start???

Id take a cracked piston anyday! My works 2019 MK3 313 fridge box Sprinter broke down on the way to Cardiff from Carmarthen at 3am. It already has 200 000+ miles on it but the electrical system is absolutely screwed... no garage here can fix it. The van is sitting unused waiting... Every guage, light & the LED ad blue/fuel indicators all dance and flash like mad. Thats fine by me... but if you switch the engine off during a "fit" episode, she will not fire off or even crank again & a grands worth of food gets left to rot. If you sit and wait for the fit to end and then switch it off it goes all day without much issue. I miss the old vans!!

I'm a fairly new subscriber and i'm glad i came across your channel. Your videos are very informative and with the videos i've seen up to now, you come across as an honest mechanic who knows his stuff and won't lead others down the garden path. Previously, i used to drive Mercedes Sprinter Refrigerated box vans for a living all be it of the newer styles (2015 - present day ) however, i much prefer the styling of the older vans (the style you are working on) as they appear to be more simple and more robust. I'm also a huge fan of the diesel engine (i love the noise the engine makes) and also own a diesel vehicle myself (all be it a Ford Ecosport). I would love to see in the future (and if you are able) to see some videos on Ford diesel engines as i would like to be able to fix my own car should anything go wrong. In general though, thanks for your in depth content as i really enjoy your videos. keep up the good work :)

I have got a Mercedes 11 plate sprinter. I buy passed the heater matrix last year and then when the frost came, I forgot to put antifreeze in. I tell everybody you should put antifreeze in and I’ll service a lot of peoples cars fix them whatever but forgot to put antifreeze in my own vehicle anyway above the core plug behind the manifold, there is like a square a crack in the block. I am hoping to repair that one way or another.

If you want super high milge from your CDI then might I be as bold as to suggest Oil and filters / and yes I said filters oil air and fuel are allways changed together for easy knowledge of when a filter was last changed I look at my wall planner to see when it was brought into the garage for said oilchange ( as a rule of thumb I do the changes every 12 weeks as my engines are in Vito taxis and do take a bit of a tuning my druvers moan when I say its filter time but I do try to take it off duty on a quiet time I have been running vitos for a good few years now and major mechanicals are zero a few little annoyances but on the whole totally reliable the older of the 2 vitos is now running at 680,000 miles and the hesd has not been off

GREAT BIT OF WORK , MAN!! I've a quick question, "903 - 316 CDI" do you manage to get the High pressure fuel pump off without removing radiator and fan?? I'm 81 and don't need to pull the roo bar off as well! Winter here in Tasmania so I need to do it as easily as I can :) Best wishes from Down Under :)

Al another brilliant video thank you again,the OM611 engine i am in the process of replacing the head however i am confused by the casting numbers. do i need to obtain an exact copy of my casting number or can it vary a little for instance mine is R611 016 21 01 can it be superceeded by say a R6110161901 for instant listed as a head for this age vehicle ? Better still do you have a suitable head for my 2001 v-class ?

Amazing video. Loved it. Got the same engine (although left hand drive). I've got a fair amount of blow by. Some recurring limp home mode issues related to boost pressure. When pressure testing the system I could feel the air coming out of the crankcase breather (or I can now that I've replaced the intake manifold gaskets). Do you think I would be doing myself a favour to try pull the head and see of there's any damage to the pistons/ rings? The idea scares me a little, but this video gives me a glimmer of encouragement haha. Anyway that's my sob story. Absolutely loved the video. If I'm ever back in the UK I might even pop past and see if you guys are willing to take apprentice's haha
@6DDIESELSDorset
@6DDIESELSDorset Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t worry to much about miner crank case pressure fella , the limp mode issue is most likely the boost controller under the RH head light . Common fault and easy to change. I have one of these engines with well over 600,000 miles and it’s still running well Al 👍
@joecavendish5235
@joecavendish5235 Жыл бұрын
@@6DDIESELSDorset great thanks.. your absolutely correct. But seems to be a electrical issue. Hoping to create a new wiring harness to see if that fixes it. An aftermarket boost controller didn't seem to fix it, but did make a little difference. Thanks all the same 🙏
@6DDIESELSDorset
@6DDIESELSDorset Жыл бұрын
@@joecavendish5235 I have found the aftermarket ones to be very hit or miss . The genuine ones about £80 and normally sorts the problem . Might be worth checking the recirculate flap piping on the air box to they have a tendency to rot out and put it in limp randomly by dropping the vacuum when you click the recirculate on the dash 👍
@joecavendish5235
@joecavendish5235 Жыл бұрын
@@6DDIESELSDorset might be well worth the investment. Thanks. 👍. Recirculation flap seems fully functional, although I do fear a small vacuum leak.. because if I hook up a tester at the brake servo end of the vacuum hose leading to the boost pressure solenoid, it doesn't seem to fully hold. But all seems good at the other end. But I think I'll buy a new one and hopefully you've done me a favour and that'll fix me good. Appreciate it
