I watch some yootoobers using plastigauge to get 2000th of an inch running clearance etc, and then you come along with your wire brush in a drill and a DA sander to decoke an engine, bloomin brilliant, thank you both for showing us the old ways are still the good ways,

we aquired a 3 pin plug back in 87 with the head gasket gone,had a go at fixing it but the wet liners had moved? anyway no scrap yards wanted it so we decided to burn it,once it lit it gave off more black smoke than the torry canyon,the fire brigade soon turned up as al l traffic in the area couldnt see a thing,we hid till they went and blamed vandals when the porkies arrived😂

shes in suprizingly good nick that Regal, I had a Regal and four robin reliants, I never once saw a 650cc engine The ragals all had 750cc engines and the robins had 750 and 850cc engines. I rebuilt a robin estate 750cc engine upside down on a fishtank stand in one of those little council house sheds, after the rebuild it did 100 mpg.

Years ago, there used to sit atop a portakabin for a small scrappy in Castle Cary an almost identical blue super van, does the chap who owns Semley station still do Reliant stuff? My own one is back in the garage, ran the fuel almost out and must have sucked up a wodge of rust into the carb, died on me between Wincanton and Penselwood but luckily Shane at Bennett's Field Garage in Wincanton came out to save the day and we got her back to the hospital for sick cars.

My dad when cleaning tops of pistons would leave about 1/8th of an inch of carbon around the outside edge of the piston. He would also use a lit candle to put a thin layer of carbon on the top of new piston. I asked him why ? Firstly better running and restarting and running after renewing the head gasket. Secondly better initial starting of an engine after a rebuild. When we started the engines it appeared to work. I'm 60 now and I started helping my dad when I was 5 or 6 . Would appreciate your views on this

I got about 8hp on mine when I ported the inlet with me dremel, fitted a yellow top carb, electronic dizzy, high end HT leads, Lucas sports coil and tri-prong spark plugs. Took it down to Zeals airfield and gave her a thrash, fone and speedo both showed about 96 but she was screaming like a hapless man jumped down a dark alley by a bunch of foreign sailors and front end was dicey light. Cruises at 70 up and down hill all day long mind and because I fitted Peugeot anti-roll thingies on the back from some GTi model she goes round corners on rails, abs sticks to the floor... I am wondering if you might have any 10 inch 145's going spare as its virtually impossible to find a non trailer set since Falken stopped making 'em and I ain't paying £200 each for a Dunlop lol I got stitched up on ebay buying some HiFly's, said they were commercial tyres and when they got here said "trailer use only" on the sidewall although the tyres specs well exceed the Robin's requirements but insurance company likely to pull a plug if I had a smack because of it :(
