A lot of work, how many rods gouging, and welding lbs do you think you used?
@ZILAwelds5 ай бұрын
Too many …. About $350 worth with the Rockmount stuff.

If you use an arc-air gouging system, the amount of grinding prep is greatly reduced, perhaps use a crack testing kit, their cheap and easy to use, as for bending the fish plates, if you’ve got oxy set, a couple of suitable packers and an energy source, ie sledgehammer or downward pressure from a 10 ton excavator bucket, there’s ya press

if I would have had a compressor that day - air arc would have been my first choice ... well - I guess everyone is an expert here in KZbin land .... did you ever bend 5/8" AR400??? a 50 press will not do that at 6" wide .... and if you heat it up and anneal it .. well -you just took ALL the hardness and abrasion resistance out of it ... but I am probably just a dumbass and I should get the right tools and grow a pair so I can do the job right ... thank you for the education ..... I have subscribed to your channel in hopes to learn something so one day I can do these jobs right ....

I enjoy your videos, love the mobile jobs because i do it also, does rockmount offer any type of dualshield wire for repairs work?
@ZILAwelds5 ай бұрын
Yes, if you can afford it they also sell Polaris dual shield wire in 035 045 and 1/16 I believe in 10 and 30 lbs rolls …. Shelf life on that wire though …. Watch out. Rods last pretty much for ever

@@ZILAwelds awesome, I currently run the outer shield 71m, so far so good, but I get wagon tracks if im working on some pieces of equipment, tree pitch causing it even if i grind everything clean. Hopefully the rockmount would have better luck.
@ZILAwelds5 ай бұрын
@@troyshuler4280the wagon tracks are the result of either A) not enough shielding gas or B) wire is too old Or C) material is too contaminated….. But really A) and B) are the most common ones …. 40-50 cfh lincoln says in their literature and i see guys trying to run it with 20 or 25 Or, the wire being too old … means, ambient air moisture creeped into the flux in the wire … it will NEVER come out again … so if you supplier had it on the shelf for ever and you had it in the suitcase for a few month …. Or you bought new old stock from a guy from ebay …. Those are all very common problems !!!!

@@ZILAwelds I found a new problem, new machine from one of the bigger welder manufacturers, the gas regulator outlet only had a tiny pinhole for the gas to go through, i checked out all my other regulators and they were at least a 3/32 hole, this new regulator only had this just tiny pinhole, is this a manufacturer flaw?

That is about 1/4 of what was used … there is a pile on the left, a pile on the right and a metal container with stubs in the back of the van. I hate it when guys drop rods on the ground and then i drive through them …..

your welding is annealing the hardened stuff though.
@ZILAwelds5 ай бұрын
in a way yes - but only in the heat effected zone .... maybe 1/2" away from the weld joint ... if you want to be really generous 1" away from the weld ... but I doubt that since I didnt preheat other than cutting with the electrodes .... and if the "entire side" is work hardened ... then it will crack 1", 2", 3" down the line .....
