I bought a new smartphone just a month ago. I was watching Spiderman Into Spiderverse movie by screen mirroring into my TV. I wanted to go washroom, I forgot I kept my phone in my lap while watching it. I just woke up and it I found my phone in ground Lol. I wasn't worried then I saw a light crack ( it's not even that visible ) but I feel guilty. Cause it's a frickkn new phone & if I lose this I'm definitely not getting another one. I'm so obsessed with the perfection. If I see a little scratch on my phone or anyty that belongs to me thn I feel uncomfy - irritated. I'm planning to change my display but I've experienced issues with my old phones when I changed their display. Is it a good idea to change the display ? Does it work Like before or it works slow & feel different in a bad way ? If anyone has knowledge about this please let me know now.

Thanks for all the likes guys! Regarding the screen , it really does matter that it's original. I later repaired a Z3 compact and bought a replacement screen + digitizer on eBay for roughly £20 and, while it worked okay, the screen area was smaller and the colours were very drab and dull in comparison to the original (brightness was fine though). I'd personally leave the cheap replacement screens well alone, but the official ones are much more expensive.

Well they say you get what you pay for and while Sony phones are not cheap they are some of the best. They are water resistant and have good cameras. The Xperia Z5 Premium was the first smartphone to have a 4K display. I have an Xperia X and the 1080p display already looks really good. Never mind Samsung, I don't like AMOLED screens. They are defective from the moment they are manufactured and that is because they burn in and that is why I will never want an AMOLED screen or super AMOLED. No Xperia I ever had has an AMOLED display and that is how I like it. I have one non Sony phone with an IPS display and that was left on for a whole 24 hours with the screen on just sitting there. It did not burn in. Now if you had done that to an expensive new Samsung phone it would very likely get an image *permanently* burned in. I think I would almost cry if I paid all that money to see it damaged so soon. Either that or I would be a very grumpy person for a while.

Here’s a tip guys never use a metallic tool to disconnect connectors from the motherboard, this can quite possible short out that part of the board if not the whole board. Glass only repair is very tedious and quite frankly not worth it unless it’s something you have the tools for already, it’s very easy to damage the lcd panel. I always get the screen assembly and swap it out saves time and may cost a bit more but definitely worth having a solid screen that’s been quality tested.

@@Will-sv9mf not sure if you mean off as in turning the device off or disconnecting the power source. In the first case, that’s false, hitting the power button doesn’t change the fact that current is still plugged into the board. If you mean disconnecting the battery then possible yes, but there’s still a chance that a capacitor still has pent up energy and therefore a chance of shorting (pretty slim if you do the repair careful, but the risk is there). In any official repair training, a spudger is always the tool recommended to use when disconnecting directly from the motherboard. Obviously because it doesn’t conduce electricity.

Remember that this process is extremely difficult and doesn't work on most devices. It's generally better to replace the entire screen despite it costing a bit more. Also, on iPhones, you need to take off the screen first and not the back. The back is basically impossible to remove.

Mr Perks. Don't use metal spudgers to work on the battery or connectors. You run the risk of shorting the battery and damaging it. Also the capacitors will hold a small charge after the battery is disconnected. The metal on your tools can complete parts of the circuit, sending unwanted power where it could potentially do damage. Always use non conductive tools when repairing electronics when you need to touch connectors or other circuitry.
@maxximumb
@maxximumb 7 жыл бұрын
Also replacement screen / glass / digitiser modules can be bought on ebay for around £22 (for the Sony) and are easy to install. I had to do this for my brother in law a few weeks ago. The replacement glass was going to cost £17. The extra £5 and less work option of the complete unit was a no-brainer. As to the issue of 'cheap copy', the build quality of the replacement unit was just the same as the Sony original. Also the digitiser was the same model and manufacturer as the Sony original. I did enjoy the video however. Please keep up the great work and high production values.

@ArchimedesLockheart
@ArchimedesLockheart 7 жыл бұрын
While you are correct that most modern batteries have a protection circuit that helps keep the battery itself from suffering short damage (usually) the major concern with using metal tools is that you can make contact with the battery connectors and other connectors on the Logic board, which can cause permanent damage.
@maxximumb
@maxximumb 7 жыл бұрын
I'm just advising folk to avoid using metal tools around circuitry. A £500 phone is an expensive risk to take, when if you use a plastic tool, you remove almost all of the potential for damage. Feel free to use whatever tools you want. As to the original screen over the cheaper replacements. The title of the video is fixing a phone on a budget. I was just making suggestions based on my experience with budget replacement parts. I found the replacement part to be of good quality, no difference in screen size or colour quality. Perhaps I got lucky with my purchase or you were unlucky. I suppose it's a mileage may vary situation. As far as a budget repair goes, the cheap all in one module was a relatively easy fix and saved an expensive phone from the rubbish bin.

Shorting out a lithium phone battery, especially one that is fully charged is a really bad idea. There is a scary amount of potential energy bottled up in one of those that can easily give you a nasty shock, burst into flames or even explode. Remember the battery in the Galaxy Note 9? All lithium batteries have the potential to do that if mishandled.

I've worked at a phone repair store and be very careful to apply to much heat to the back of the phone, heating up the phone too much can cause in some cases the battery to explode. Keep your finger under the heat and if it feels to hot stop the heat and leave it for about 30 seconds. Be careful in general with this.

I know what you mean. It should really be modular. Each component should be easily separated and replaced as and when. Phones were easier to repair. Now, most of them are sealed units. The drive to sell the next best phone is what these manufactures count on.

Sony phones are like that in particular because of the water resistance. The adhesives help preventing water from enter and damage the components. Being a sealed unit really helps with that. While I agree with you I don't see the point in the something like the fairphone since many of this phones are easy to repair without being modular and the average consumer don't want to have the trouble to DIY anything.

I dropped my phone for the umpteenth time, but the screen broke this time (probably because all the other times it landed on the side or back with are protected, but this time it fell straight down on the front). I am a big proponent of DIY, but for something like this I will pay a professional to do it for $200. Amazingly they said that they can have it fixed in 24 hours. I am surprised they didn't have to order any parts considering that my phone is almost 3 years old and was never widely available in America.

Damn, this is so relatable. My Sony Z3 had a problem where its digitizer stopped working, so I replaced the screen, and unfortunately, the replacement screen, which I purchased form Ebay was a replica instead of original. I even tested the brightness and contrast and it was not the same as original one. So I wanted to detach original screen from digitizer to replace only the digitizer. I did pretty much the same method with fishing net. Somehow, instead of separating digitizer from screen, I separated screen's layers of sheets and almost cut controller in half. It is extremely hard to separate screens without proper heating pads for screens.

It was the best designs at the time, with great features, but also the worst when it came to durability. I had the Xperia Acro S before and it is still on working conditions in the hands of my 9 y/o kid... then I had the Xperia Z1c and Z3c and both had shattered displays with the digitizer broken... Now I currently have the XZ which is built like a tank and has, so far, survived to several drops without protection. Great old video
