👏👍Love the video, Mr. HG. Awesome. So , as I tinker with small engines, much like yourself, I begin to find out why some carbs can not be cleaned the way some plumbing valves in homes can not be fixed and must be cut out and removed. If one plans to truly rebuild and repair carbs additional parts and tools are required. So, on one hand we have to deal with maintaining an assortment of welch plugs and welch plug removal and install tools. For both 2 cycle and 4 cycle. Turns out dirt is sometimes unable to escape😢 the carb because they dead end at the welch plug. As the engine runs the particulate swirls and as it stops the particulate fall in a vital hole clogging it, requiring 2 pulls. Now assume you get that fixed there is another chance that water and calcium has entered, corroded and fused inside a vital port, PERMANENTLY. Thus, effectively clogging or restricting a fuel or air port.( same thing happens with plumbing valves) Then you are only left with the option to buy a new or aftermarket carb. 😂But now that I know all this. I am still a glutton for punishment and I am going to buy welch plugs and the install removal kits to try to perfect my repair skills. Keep up the awesome repair videos. Yours truly , The Duke

I would try to clean the carb again. Also, at my house I probably have a spare Quantum carb sitting around. I would try 1 more time to clean and if that doesn’t work, replacement is cheap. Also, check the intake tube for cracks, holes, or lose bolts allowing air in, leaning out the mixture.

Reminds me of the older Suzuki two cycle engines that came on these decks. Those two stroke engines lasted and lasted. Also, as the ignition modules go thru thousands of heat cycles, the internal capacitor seems to vary the amount of charge they retain. I understand that the modules are fairly inexpensive but I find that replacing the 'R' plug opting instead for the traditional plug will keep the engine running for a few more years. ie J19LM vs RJ19LM.

I wouldn't be surprised if something flushed out of the gas tank or the fuel line, based on how the carb looked. Once fresh, clean fuel hit it, it would break it down. I've gotten to where I just replace the fuel line on those engines now, because they're usually in bad shape from age if it's the original. I would also check the intake pipe. I've had them crack, and wear away on the bottom side which isn't visible. It took the same mower coming back to me 3 times, before I found it on one of them. The cracks and or small holes get plugged up with gunk pretty easily, so it's possible your cleaning opened it up a bit. If nothing else, it's worth a check of the 2 screws holding it down, as they're known to loosen up over time. There could have been a small piece of something grounding that coil wire. I've had it happen with just gunk/grease build up, so maybe something was caught not easily seen without a super close inspection that got knocked away once you removed it.

I love these carbs, because they are so simple, but it also has drawbacks. The carbs are pretty much junk if you get a clog in the idle circuit, because it is nearly impossible to remove since you don't have any direct access to it.

125 PSI is good for a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine,my 3 horsepower engine has 75 PSI of compression when I test it with a compression tester although that's me using the pull rope,it doesn't have a compression release on the camshaft & that was after replacing the piston rings 4 years ago. A compression test isn't always conclusive because Taryl Dactal did a compression test on a warrantied Briggs and Stratton horizontal shaft engine because it would barely run,he got 80 PSI of compression out of it & assumed it was alright because a similar Predator engine had 60 PSI of compression. He did a cylinder leakdown test & he found out that the rings were stuck in the piston ring grooves inside of the engine because it has bad cylinder leakdown despite showing up as having good compression. The spark plug was oil fouled probably due to the way it was being stored or someone overfilled the crankcase with oil. As far as the carburettor goes xI would go through the carburettor again because I found out that microfine dust particles can block it up inside of a Honda carburettor !

I am working on a machine with this same engine. It loses spark when the kill wire is plugged in. I have replaced the cable and the kill wire, and I have wire brushed the switch itself, and it made no difference. Is there any way for the kill switch to actually go bad? I have eliminated pretty much everything else.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE2 ай бұрын
yes there is, I would consider replacing the switch, just buy a bulk pack to make it worth it.
@jesterr71332 ай бұрын
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE I have been paused on this one for a while because I thought the switch was too simple to go bad. Where do you buy the stuff in bulk from? My focus up to this point has been gaining experience, but I need to start focusing on making a little money.
