I understand you have time constraints, but when you reinstall Windows you could also do the OOBE boot to check for temps and install the GPU drivers to make sure things are running smoothly. Yes, this will add about another hour, and seeing how you spent 4 hours fighting the NVMe, at least that way you'll make sure everything is working as it should before returning it. Once you quit the OOBE context window, the next boot will start as if it was a new Windows install for its owner to go through the process.

The board is fine, Intel has a specified keep-out-zone around the socket where no components with a z-height greater than X can be placed, and the board obeys these rules. NZXT doesn't care and makes their pump block bigger than the keep-out-zone, so while ASUS has been taking many Ls lately, this time ASUS is not to blame. Yeah they could have left more space, but they're not obligated to, NZXT is at fault here.

as a computer tech, I've ran into this problem a few times. In my experience, a good place to check would be in the SATA operation in the BIOS. Make sure that RAID is disabled and AHCI is selected if RAID isn't supported. I've gotten that blue screen with INACCESSABLE DEVICE so many times lol, this has saved my life many times. It's not always the case, but just something good to check on the list.

@MrNota500

Its more of a lack of PC knowledge and common sense. The owner spent all the money to make it look good but didn't add fans to provide air flow to cool components. Also the choice to go with an AIO if you are not savvy enough to identify a pump failure is a bad choice imo. Also wedging the block against the RAM is clearly not smart. Their is no such thing as luck, things happen for reasons.
@SiliconPower74

@@MrNota500 Agree, however a lot of brands overlook some parts of the desing that could end up with issues like... Asus making those big VRM heatsink that are too close to the socket. These issues are no challenge for a advance user but for lacking user, could be a wall that cant overcome

Might be best practice when working on a system repair to: first select "load default bios settings" (or simply clear the CMOS settings), re-boot, then double-check that the CSM setting is set to "off", and set to AHCI mode (instead of Raid mode). Raid mode setting should never default to "on". There is a set of DOS commands that may be useful: 1. Boot from the Windows installer USB thumb drive 2. Navigate to CMD prompt 3. Type "disk part" 4. Type "select disk X" where X=disk number 5. Type "clean" Note: for system data safety, only have the one target drive connected, so as to not unintentionally mess with any secondary drive.

@Mave-rick
@Mave-rick Жыл бұрын
Exactly. This reminds me of the transition from IDE to AHCI, Windows didn't have built-in AHCI drivers, so you needed a Floppy Disk or CD-ROM with AHCI drivers to install Windows. Neither Windows 10/11 have drivers for Intel VMD built-in, so before installation, as shown in the video, you'll need to provide drivers so Windows Install can see the drive you want to install to.

@Greg Salazar Hey Greg a couple of things about newer ASUS boards and the issues you were having. If you would have reset the BIOS it probably would have fixed your problems with the drive detection. The other thing you could have done is switched to EZMODE(F7) and turned Intel RST off (it is available in advanced mode but buried). This enables the RAID controller when on and all drives, including NVME, are under the RAID controller even when not set as a RAID drive. Most modern ASUS and Gigabyte (and probably others) motherboards don't show changes with certain items like drives until a reboot. If you were to turn off Intel RST the drive still would not show in BIOS until the reboot. Hope that helps if you run into similar problems in the future.

figured the missing drive was a RAID related problem... remember having issues like this in the early days of SATA 1 hard drives as I built a few PC's for people where I had to load drivers during a Windows install just to see the drives then had to pick the right RAID options to be able to use it at all as there were some poor motherboard BIOS options back then. I specifically remember a Gigabyte board that my friend picked and the bios basically seemed to have no option to turn RAID off at all - the only way I got it to work was selecting RAID striping (RAID 0) despite the fact there was only one drive in the system since the only other option was mirroring (RAID 1) which refused to work at all, even if you loaded the drivers from floppy during install - again, there was only one drive in the system :/

This series has made me so thankful that I didn’t run into any of these problems when I built my first gaming PC. Only strange thing that happened was my 4080 super came with a 3 PCIe to 12VHPWR adapter & 2 would plug in but the 3rd one wouldn’t for the life of me. I just bought a Cablemod cable & since then my PC hasn’t had any issues.

I don't get why fist time builders alwys tend get high end parts like 3090s. It's like getting a sports car when you're a beginner driver It makes no ense. At least try get get used to it on something cheap, a used office PC or someting.... Just find something to play arround, where breaking things wont matter. Thats the best and honestly the ONLY why to truely learn this stuff.

New RST versions use Intel's Volume Management Device (VMD) to manage NVMEs in a RAID setup, and WIndows still doesn't have the driver to see them natively, hence the need to load the drivers during Windows installation. Most Gen12 and up Intel motherboards have VMD (RAID) enabled by default for NVMEs.

I had the same problem with a kraken z63 280mm (i7 12700k/32GB DDR4-4 Sticks/RTX 3080Ti) one of the sticks was touching the aio's block, wich caused no posting or Windows frozen constantly. My solution? I used 2 16GB DDR4 Sticks instead.

Hi man, I'm stuck in a situation and I need your advice, I just bought the new MSI GAMING X TRIO RTX 4070 and I have paired it with the Intel I5-13400F, my question is, should I keep this build or change the processor with an Intel i5-13600KF (There is a 115$ price difference between the processors from where I am) the purpose of this build is gaming .(Sorry but I'm not an AMD processors fan, so I have to pick between these 2)

I would have tried to install to a sata drive, then clone that sata drive over to the NVME drive (perhaps even do this from a separate machine). Then attempt to boot it. I'd let windows boot with the NVME drive present at least once so it has the drivers to it. If it doesn't work , then I'd say the drive is dead. ;) I've cloned my current Windows install over to a NVME drive once I finally upgraded to one and Windows handled it just fine. :D

Hey Greg! Dealt with the same issue on my System. My Samsung 980 Pro showed the same symptoms. Bought a new Seagate Firecuda 530, reinstalled everything ... guess what! 2 Weeks later got and BSOD again and the Bootdrive didn´t show up again. Last option was to RMA the motherboard (Was an Gigabyte x570s Aero-G), bought an Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero and so far everything is working perfekt. And believe it or not, my Systemdrive is the same "old" Samsung 980 Pro again and it runs perfectly fine so far. Man i was so pissed whith that, and for me it was the daily driver-PC. Something i was thinking with the RAM problem: the outer ram module was hanging more down than the others and im wondering if that was the real issue first and not the left one.🤷‍♂

I had this issue going back to one of my old Intel builds for my itx 4790k pc needing a software driver to see my storage drive on my Z97 motherboard 👎😡which I needed to download separately from Asus website and install via separately usb while installing my Win7 OS🫣🤔. These series are a treasure trove of knowledge invaluable to any pc user / builder imo. Great work on these series Greg🥰😇💪. Cheers buddy 🥂🍻

I received an HP laptop for Christmas 2020 that had an 1tb hdd - when replacing the HDD with an 2.5" SSD and a gen-4 NVME, I ran into this very frustrating problem that you did - the win-11 installer needed the RST drivers - then all was good.

Maybe the whole thing was just an incompatibility issue, between the motherboard and the M.2. In my case (Asus ROG Strix B450F Gaming II & Crucial P2), the motherboard outright refuses to recognise the M.2 in the bios, no matter what i do. I've tried every possible M.2 related setting in the bios to make it appear there, but to no avail... Now the thing is that as soon as i boot into Windows, the M.2 is shown and works perfectly fine. I still have both of the components and haven't changed anything, since it's kinda too late... (P.S. I wrote the comment before the issue was fixed...😅)

Hello, I had that same exact motherboard that gave me a lot of issues. I always updated the BIOS when they released, but one problem that was always there when updated bios over a year, was the gpu EZ debug light would stay on after I turned the system on and nothing was wrong with my 3060ti FE card, but if I rebooted my system the gpu light would not stay on. I have recently replaced the Motherboard and only the motherboard with an MSI MPG Z790 Edge wifi DDR4 white, and I have no problems and the gpu light has never stayed on. In my opinion its ASUS trash motherboard, and with the recent Asus fiasco, I will NEVER buy another asus product, and besides the prices for asus products are obsurd!!!!!

I have run into that problem before. I had the same Samsung 970 EVO Plus in my system for a couple of years and everything was fine and then suddenly one day my Chrome browser window closed on me and each time I tried to open Chrome again, it would instantly close. Long story, short, eventually it would no longer boot into windows anymore, so I took the DRASTIC step or re-installing Windows and reloading all my programs and it was fine for a couple of days and then suddenly BSOD again! THEN, even though the drive showed up in the BIOS, it did not show in the windows installation window - SO, I figured the drive had died and that it had started with the boot partition. Since I also had an Intel U.2 NVMe drive in the system, I just took the Samsung drive out and am now using the Intel drive as my boot drive. The kicker is: THE SAMSUNG DRIVE IS FINE when in another system. So... I concluded there was some problem with the M.2 slot and have just been running successfully booting from the U.2 drive and the Samsung drive is now at home in another system.

I had to install the RST drivers when doing a clean install of windows 11 on an 11th gen ASUS laptop... I tried the other BIOS option (likely AHCI) and windows still wouldn't install, but because the factory windows 11 was still working I knew it wasn't a hardware problem. It was very old school - I hadn't had to add drivers during windows install since probably windows 95, which would have been for a third party IDE add in card - but of course once windows was installed the current paradigm reasserted itself as all the ASUS bloatware was automatically installed by Windows Update...

I had a similar problem with a new ASUS Z690 MB. The installed M.2 was not discovered. I booted with a USB cloned Win11 drive, installed a Intel driver and the M.2 was discovered. Contacted ASUS and never received an answer to the problem.

My guess is that the PC did not always turn on (thanks to the RAM), and he performed a BIOS factory reset, thinking it might be BIOS settings causing the random starting problems.

More recently I have had to do just that with the RST drivers on a couple of laptops when re-installing W10 or W11 - very frustrating, as it can be a challenge to identify the correct driver, but a quick download to the Intel site usually sorts it. However, the other thing I'd say is some of the newer 12th and 13th gen boards only support Gen5 in the top most M.2 slot, meaning your BIOS and Windows installer won't 'see' the NVMe unless it is Gen5 (which you can't really buy yet here in Scotland) or you need to move to the lower down M.2 slots. Another good result though, and well worth the perseverance, Greg!

Good video 👍🏻, A tip, I ran into this when I was trying to use the windows recovery environment WRE, no drive will show up even though I can boot normally into Windows and see all the drives. I scouted the internet for months not finding any post or thread mentioning that. The problem is with RTS aka IRS aka IRTS, Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Even with RTS drivers installed sometimes you cannot see the drives. And Asus always tend to have it on by default on their motherboards. The solution was just to turn it off in BIOS and then your BIOS will see all the drives. I'm loving this series and im currently watching the entire if it.

Asus simply designs by the socket clearance requirements. This space issue is the fault of the liquid cooler designer. Also, inaccessible boot device in my experience is almost aways either an AHCI vs IDE issue or a missing driver issue (like when booting from add-in cards). But to be frank, I have little experience with platforms of after 2016, so maybe IDE settings arent a thing anymore.

Disable that stupid Intel VMD controller/RAID mode in UEFI if you didn't use RAID configuration. Switch to AHCI mode. It really frustrating that these manufacturers set those RAID as default settings even though normal user doesn't really need it.

Hi Greg! Im having an issue where i enable the XMP in the BIOS, it shows it's turned on but when i boot up my pc it sill says that it's running on 2666Mhz instead of 3200Mhz. Why is that, and how can I fix that?

My buddy had this issue on his old setup, doing a quick google search on cpu ram limit it only allowed 2666mhz, the motherboard supported up to 2900mhz, but the cpu can't go any higher than 2666mhz. The cpu was an i5 10600k and it's ram frequency limit was 2666mhz. You would have to upgrade either your motherboard or cpu. (EDIT: just learned that non z variant motherboards for intel don't allow for higher ram frequency than the cpu limit.) Both have their own frequency limit, whatever has the lower frequency limit is the part you have to replace. I have an I7 10700 cpu and it's max frequency is 2933mhz, but my motherboard supports above that and I can enable xmp for 3200mhz. Due to my motherboard being an asus z490 I am able to go past the 2933mhz cpu limit; however your cpu downlocks your ram back down to the supported memory speed limit of the cpu

@@Splyngz You can enable a frequency past that limit if your motherboard is a z series, if it's a b series or h series you can't go past the max cpu supported ram speed. I saw online that even though you xmp to 3200mhz and your cpu only supports a max of 2666mhz it will run at that speed always. Example the I5 10600k has a max supported ram speed of 2666mhz, you can use xmp to change your ram speed to 3200mhz if you have a z series motherboard; however the cpu will downclock the ram back down to the max supported speed it's compatible with

This community seems amazing. I need help… started upgrading realised building anew will be better I decided the i5 9400f w/Z390-A-pro to get the 4.1ghz boost w/ 32gb maxing the chip claims it maxes at 2666… got that I am in the realms of asking how would be best to go about storage and bios settings to really get the oompf out of this I am self taught to try save money I am medically retired at 38. I know it’s hassle asking others to fix what I am learning to do. But I will do that a list and I’ll learn each thing to get it right all suggestions inc PSU calculations etc as it’s for flight sim set up which means ideally I’m gonna want to utilise a vast array of USB devices at once like 15 USB’s at once so I’m a need advice on the USB hubs needed I am eternally grateful if you got this far in reading my message. Have a great day. 😊

Reminder that this terribly designed NZXT AIO is also *VERY* overpriced compared to the non-Corsair competition (Corsair is also *very* overpriced with its LCD screen models). You're paying more and all you're getting in return is an RGB thingy and a bunch of headaches and poor design decisions.
