That's pretty awesome that at 14 they wanted to build their first PC. I didn't build my first until I was in my early 20s. It's so helpful that the next generation of builders have so many KZbin videos to help them build and troubleshoot, and sometimes have someone who can help them when all else fails 😊 I'm glad Greg was able to help this young builder out and get his system working...

I didn't build my first PC until I was 19. This was in 2019, and I'll never forget the feeling of euphoria I felt when I pressed the power button and the system posted on the first try. 4 years later, and I have now built 6 PCs. I wish I could do it all the time, but money doesn't grow on trees, so it's a very special occasion when I'm able to build a system. I wanted to start building PCs when I was 14, but being 14, I didn't have any money to spend on computer parts. I doubt I'll ever become a parent, but in the alternate universe where I am a parent, I'd get my child into PC building at a very young age. My father built a couple PCs in the 1990s, but he had abandoned the hobby by the time I was born in 2000. Oh well. Unlike my dad, I'm never going to give up on the hobby. I'll be building PCs until the day I die. I find it very relaxing and therapeutic to put a PC together. I just wish I was able to do it more than once every two years. 😞

What an insane build for a 14 year old. His parents must have a lot of money or he worked a lot and saved up money. But really cool that teens still build their own PCs, I love it. BIOS updates are an issue many don't think about so I don't judge him about that. Same with fan placement. It is his first own build rig and for that he did a great job!

Props to the owner for taking on the task. The first PC build, especially with brand new hardware, is always the most nerve-racking. And it doesn't always go as planned. What's super unfair is the removal of actual debug displays from nearly all midrange and entry level boards. If they're going to save pennies there on $200+ boards, it'd be nice if they actually shipped with BIOS versions that aren't years out of date.

This is exactly why I was lucky to have the parts growing up and even for the most part now to change things out and troubleshoot issues like this properly. @ACOnetwork
@ACOnetwork Жыл бұрын
@@chrism869 yeah sadly it is true and necesarry. For example BIOS can have some bug or you bought some latest CPU where BIOS does not have it on its own list and that is why it wont boot. It is good to update BIOS when you buy a motherboard but read its description on the web page. The worse it is, if you do not have flashback to be able to flash bios without correct CPU where in that case supportes CPU needs to be putted in so you can upgrade it. There is more to this but I went through it roughly.

I mount my CPU fans on the left out of habit. In most boards the RAM is way too close to the fan, when it's on the right. And I had the fan basically vibrate a stick. Which caused random bluescreens. Once I put the fan on the left. It never happened again. But I still have the fan pull heat from the HS. Not pull air from the rear. Boards should add another debug light "Firmware".

I wish more motherboard manuals would link to the online repository of bios and walk them through what bios works with what cpus better, so someone who was new at building pcs could figure this out. I remember when I first started building pcs during the pandemic and trying to pair a 5600x with an older am4 mobo was a nightmare. TBH even now when I buy older b450 mobos to pair with 3600x or newer cpus for budget builds I have to keep a ryzen 2700 around incase I have to dig around said mobos bios to update it to the latest correct bios, its a pain and I know what im doing lol.

BIOS flashing is a nightmare. I didn't have the privilege to build my own PC, and had to watch a technician finish it instead. I later discovered that the Motherboard was running F5 bios version which was actually stock. I tried to flash my Gigabyte B660 DS3H AX DDR4, yet chickened out at the last moment. I used their @BIOS tool instead, which allowed the PC to connect to their Servers and obtain the latest stable bios version and automatically flashing it. Now, it's compatible with 13th Gen Intel CPUs, if I ever wanted to upgrade the CPU.

I had a similar issue with my MSI Z790 Tomahawk but with the LAN drivers . The integrated intel LAN controller and the WiFI controller wouldn´t show up and no matter what I couldnt get the drivers installed with windows installed. Just like you did with the NVME drivers I had to manually inject the drivers before installing Windows. That solved the problem. Even with Win11 installed and bypassing the by microsoft forced internet connection I couldnt install shit because Windows 11 locks you out after restarting if you try to skip the networkconnection via console. But MSI does include the drivers for the Intel LAN controller on the USB stick that comes with the MB. So it seems to be a known issue with the Z790 chipset.

was confused why pcpartpicker wouldn't tell you about this issue bc i had the same one with a ryzen cpu when i made my current build. added the mobo and cpu to a new build and it does say if you have an older BIOS that you'll need to update it to v2004 at least to work with the 13600KF. i do get why it might have been worded confusingly bc it starts off the warning saying that it does work, but ends it with the caveat of having to update the BIOS.

I had this problem with a guy's 10th gen motherboard and 11th gen chip. Had to swap his old processor back in and then update the bios and swap back. That said... Your cable management is triggering me. You have the graphics card cable going OVER THE FRONT and then down. I think it should go along the top and then through the same hole as the rest of the cables. My cable management sucks, though, so I'm not judging... just saying.

You don’t expect your tech to be so outdated when it comes new.

Ironically, I did expect it on the motherboard I got. But then it turned out it had the latest BIOS, and the problem turned out to be a weird compatibility issue with the monitor, which was weird to me because the same monitor on the same graphics card worked just fine in another computer.

I love this series so much. I’ve been binge watching it in preparation for my new build, which I just finished today. I pretty much had the same problem, but it was AMD instead. Luckily I knew what to do because I’ve been watching your videos. Thanks for making them. They are extremely informative and enjoyable.

Pretty good build. Some things I would tell him is: get a board with a flashback feature next time. Saves a lot of headaches in the future. Also don't cheap out of the psu. Did that on my very first build years ago and yes: Really regretted it. I bring that up because I'm currently on the hunt for a new 1000w+ psu.

I am happy to see some one spending the time to build their own system. A little bit of learning that goes a long ways. Thank you for helping clarify things, I spent time to teach a friend how to build their own computer MANY years ago (they are illiterate/can not read or write) so I sat with them reading the manuals and explaining everything to them as they put it together, (back in the 386 era of computers) since then, they have always built their own.

14 year old kid: "My pc won't power on" **sees that he's using the stock 12VH Power adapter** You're very lucky it didn't turn on and that PCPartPicker didn't recommend you buy a fire extinguisher

I know pcpartpicker mentions that the BIOS may not be compatible with the cpu when using an 600 chipset mobo with a 13th gen cpu. Did he really overlook that part

look at those stock voltages asus gives. It's absolutely ABSURD. I have a B660 Tuf Gaming D4 with 13700K (I know I know, not the best pair) and , at 1st 13th gen working bios, gave 1.61v , which is enought to melt the socket if it is left like this. I, then, did a bios update, and it went down to 1.48v (still too much), and managed to have it at 1.38, but not in the traditional way of undervolting, as intel has removed uv at B series chipsets. I am going to replace this trash motherboard, literal trash as I leave performance on the table and my temps are not very good either. Props to you mate for fixing another PC for this young guy :D

I didn't build my first until I was nearly 30 but mostly because there was no ability to build your own. However, I modded a small Timex-Sinclair 1000 computer, which I eventually gave to a relative.

PSA: When choosing a motherboard, always, _always_ choose one that lists support for your chosen CPU out of the box, without a BIOS update. If the motherboard in question specifies that your CPU is supported with a BIOS update, just skip it and choose a different motherboard. There's a _very_ high chance that it will not have a BIOS new enough to support your CPU. The vast majority, if not all motherboards of a particular model almost always come with the original BIOS. They don't go back into the stores to update them. If you do get such a motherboard, it may be a real PitA trying to update the BIOS. Even with those that have a direct flashback functionality through a USB port you always run the risk of something going wrong, bricking the motherboard. You might not even be able to RMA it after that, because you bricked the motherboard.

I have an android tv box in my living room and I use it along with a ps5 controller to play games in my living room streamed from my PC like Spiderman, cyberpunk, god of war. It's like I have a ps5 without having a ps5. Also for remote access I recommend chrome remote desktop rather than team viewer. Team viewer locks you out and claims you are business use.

Love your videos man. Random request, can you do a short or tiktok or something about how you frame your vinyl? Lol. I'm a collector myself and would love a 'healthy' way to display them. Love the BMTH one especially! I have AMO signed and I'd love to have it up on the wall.

All platforms that support multiple CPU gen should have motherboards with usb bios flashback feature.
