That's pretty awesome that at 14 they wanted to build their first PC. I didn't build my first until I was in my early 20s. It's so helpful that the next generation of builders have so many KZbin videos to help them build and troubleshoot, and sometimes have someone who can help them when all else fails 😊 I'm glad Greg was able to help this young builder out and get his system working...

I didn't build my first PC until I was 19. This was in 2019, and I'll never forget the feeling of euphoria I felt when I pressed the power button and the system posted on the first try. 4 years later, and I have now built 6 PCs. I wish I could do it all the time, but money doesn't grow on trees, so it's a very special occasion when I'm able to build a system. I wanted to start building PCs when I was 14, but being 14, I didn't have any money to spend on computer parts. I doubt I'll ever become a parent, but in the alternate universe where I am a parent, I'd get my child into PC building at a very young age. My father built a couple PCs in the 1990s, but he had abandoned the hobby by the time I was born in 2000. Oh well. Unlike my dad, I'm never going to give up on the hobby. I'll be building PCs until the day I die. I find it very relaxing and therapeutic to put a PC together. I just wish I was able to do it more than once every two years. 😞

0:11 If the owner just read what the part picker said, it would have warned about the bios. Part picker shows boards as compatible even when they may possibly need a bios upgrade before they will work. The warning is pretty hard to miss. Happened to me on my last build as I wanted to use an older board on purpose to save money

We found a unicorn! It's pretty rare to find a PC builder that skipped the prebuilt step. Nearly all of us tend to start with upgrading/refitting a prebuilt before going straight to building it from the ground up. Kudos little man.

What an insane build for a 14 year old. His parents must have a lot of money or he worked a lot and saved up money. But really cool that teens still build their own PCs, I love it. BIOS updates are an issue many don't think about so I don't judge him about that. Same with fan placement. It is his first own build rig and for that he did a great job!

That's what I was thinking. At that age I was saving up Christmas and birthday money just to try and get whatever the new $300-400 console was. It was the only money I got as a kid. No lawn mowing money or allowance. And this kid just builds this PC, has issues, and is able to buy new parts to try out on the fly?

Props to the owner for taking on the task. The first PC build, especially with brand new hardware, is always the most nerve-racking. And it doesn't always go as planned. What's super unfair is the removal of actual debug displays from nearly all midrange and entry level boards. If they're going to save pennies there on $200+ boards, it'd be nice if they actually shipped with BIOS versions that aren't years out of date.

13:50 No need to lower the exhaust fan - warm air tends to rise surprisingly quickly with little inertia IME, so you might even consider moving it to the top entirely, fan bearings permitting. Now in the lowered position it might be drawing in warm air from the other components better. If in doubt, temperatures would have to be watched in use, but that's fine-tuning, alongside XMP, C-States, ASPM and such. I got a Silent Wings 4 140 mm as an exhaust fan recently, and the rubber nibble mounting definitely gets a thumbs up from me. It's holding on well even in elongated holes (which is more than I can say for one-sided Noctua rubber nipples, an NF-A14 with those slides down immediately). The fan itself has the kind of premium feel that you expect at its price point, too, and dare I say it's pretty sexy-looking?

Nice gesture fixing the fan configuration and cable management. One thing that could have helped even further is to repurpose the original front fan as top-left exhaust instead of removing it. Couldn't hurt.

I am happy to see some one spending the time to build their own system. A little bit of learning that goes a long ways. Thank you for helping clarify things, I spent time to teach a friend how to build their own computer MANY years ago (they are illiterate/can not read or write) so I sat with them reading the manuals and explaining everything to them as they put it together, (back in the 386 era of computers) since then, they have always built their own.

My first build 3 yrs. ago did the same thing. I was happy everything had power fans work lights work but no post. I first check the ram & had graphics on CPU so I removed the graphics to check that. Eventually I realized I had the just released CPU & had to do a Bios update for the motherboard to get it working. Lucky my board had Bios update & did not have to get an older CPU. Before I built my 1st PC I watched a lot of your videos, plus others like Paul's Hardware & Jays two cents. Thank you & all the rest who post these learning videos which help us a lot.

Top tip from someone who's been fixing things for a long time, there is never really a wrong thing to start with; keep trying lots of different things & eventually you'll get enough practise to get a feel for what it could be, always tinker with things always have fun.

I think Manufacturers should make sure their products sold are up to date, so consumers don't run into this kind of scenario. First time builders don't have previous gen CPU's lying around to do this bios update.

This is exactly why I was lucky to have the parts growing up and even for the most part now to change things out and troubleshoot issues like this properly. This is also why I think a shop for people to work on their own computers that can lend parts for testing and updating bios for compatibility is a good idea.

This is such a classic problem. I am glad to see some companies find a way around it. I had the same thing happen on my Z170 board going from a 6700K to a 7700K 4 or 5 years ago. And going from a core 2 duo to a quad core years before that. And upgrading from a 1700mhz AMD Athlon to a 2100mhz AMD Athlon back on a Soltek SL75 board back in the early 2000s. And going from a 500mhz processor to an 866mhz processor pentium 3. And going back to when I started working on PCs going from a 266mhz to a 333mhz Pentium 2 in 1998.

It's really good to see the younger generation not only dedicated to PC gaming instead of smart phones, but building themselves. As an added note, regarding the 4090 burning connectors, if you've watched NorthridgeFix's latest content, he's saying that the melted connectors are not all from unseated cables, but from cables that are correctly inserted also, this may not be a 'user error' issue (it wasn't to begin with.. if you have a power cable incorrectly seated the card should have fail safes other than exploding) fortunately it seems to be (mostly) the 90's that are having the issue, the 80's seem relatively safe, since there are practically no cases of melting amongst 3090Ti owners, which use the same connector and a higher power draw, this would point to an issue on the 90 series cards.. but the saga is continuing to develop

I have an old Hyper 212 Evo cooler on my aging FX-8320e. The fan, while still working, was getting loud and whiny. I replaced the fan with a beQuiet! Pure Wings 2 fan and it runs just as cool (cooler actually, but that might have just been from spring cleaning) and darn near dead silent. Love their fans.

My most hated issue the Bios being out of date. Always an issue buying a good previous generation board and not knowing if this is going to happen. Always nice when someone with spare parts can swap them out and diagnose the issue. Great videos keep up the great work helping PC lovers.

Great job as always- Your channel really does help- My PC wouldn't post after I moved to a new location, I followed your step to solve it, it was the bios. But I think the mother board was damaged during the move. It did post to a safe bios, but I had to leave it running 24/7 or I would have to repeat the process. I was going to upgrade soon anyway, so I upgraded to a 12400 on a B660 Tuff gaming board, a big jump from a 10400 and I can upgrade to a 13600k when ready to do so.

Always worth checking the motherboard website online to learn which CPU's are supported out of the Box, and if newer CPU's are supported with an Bios update, if it doesnt support your intended CPU, if theres no bios flashback support buy a cheap no thrills CPU that deffinately will post as well ive had to do this myself with AM4.cant remmember the exact name something like Athlon II 200GE or something.

I mount my CPU fans on the left out of habit. In most boards the RAM is way too close to the fan, when it's on the right. And I had the fan basically vibrate a stick. Which caused random bluescreens. Once I put the fan on the left. It never happened again. But I still have the fan pull heat from the HS. Not pull air from the rear. Boards should add another debug light "Firmware".

Pretty good build. Some things I would tell him is: get a board with a flashback feature next time. Saves a lot of headaches in the future. Also don't cheap out of the psu. Did that on my very first build years ago and yes: Really regretted it. I bring that up because I'm currently on the hunt for a new 1000w+ psu.

I wish more motherboard manuals would link to the online repository of bios and walk them through what bios works with what cpus better, so someone who was new at building pcs could figure this out. I remember when I first started building pcs during the pandemic and trying to pair a 5600x with an older am4 mobo was a nightmare. TBH even now when I buy older b450 mobos to pair with 3600x or newer cpus for budget builds I have to keep a ryzen 2700 around incase I have to dig around said mobos bios to update it to the latest correct bios, its a pain and I know what im doing lol.

its so funny that bios problem with sign of dram compability , as a experience builder its easy to try those things ( cmos , switching parts etc ) but the issues is even if someone brought it to the store bcs youre not as experience as greg, they will likely to make you buy / swap something instead doing troubleshoot . those vendors need to work on them debug led

I had this same exact issue when the 5600x first came out… it was my first ever PC build and it took me a week to figure it out it was a bios issue. Luckily my board had a QFlash option and I had a friend that knew how to flash the bios.

PSU bork. got replacement, got NO video out. he never experience that. test GPU, fine. remeber ram slots can be werid, was in your playlist. and bam it work. A1 and B1 just didnt work at all. bad that working single channel but atleast it works.

I've mentioned it before but this is the exact problem I had somewhat recently. Processor was too new for the motherboard's BIOS, needed to put a different processor into it to update the BIOS, then put the other one back in and it's right as rain. Nothing on the motherboard to deal with it without the old processor, and I actually hauled it around and either got "Can't do anything about that." or "We'll need to hold onto it for a few days, also that'll cost around the same as just buying a processor to do this with yourself.". It's one thing if the parts to do it aren't around, but if I need something done that'll take like, an hour tops (and that's probably being generous) if the necessary component is available then don't tell me that I'm going to have to drop the thing off and come back another day for it. There's no sense in that, no sense at all.

The reason I ask this is because I feel like most instances of CPU problems were with AMD chips, for example. once i seen the 600 series motherboard with 13th gen i figured it was old Bios. that TUF H670 is $180 dollars you can get Z690/Z790 for that price or less currently.
