Im a fursuit maker not a professional or anything, but Ive made over 10 fursuit heads and specifically do kemono fursuit styles (not the kigu mask ones, but more of the big foam ones) but the The caved in back of the head is honestly important. I used to make fursuits with foam fully around the head and back of the head but youll be baked alive. I now do it with a gap on the back of the head for heat to escape from. Also the unlined fur/bangs is also super common but you can use a doggy bristle brush on the back to pull some hair through! makes it look double sided without it being to rounded by a double layer or fur. Also your head turned out super adorable! ^^ The reason yours is small and not bigger is because those kigu masks are different from a "Kemono" fursuit heads.

For future projects of yours and anyone who plans to try this, please do not use pastels for this. Chalk pastels are dust. Any means of cleaning the suit will cause it to smear and run and sealant will ruin the texture of the fur and potentially stain dark and such. Instead you can drybrush acrylic paint. I have only done this on fleece but I would assume it would work similar on the short pile minkyesque fabric used for the face. You can get the same effects doing this as what you achieved with pastels. I would reccomend to search up fursuit acrylic drybrushing to see how

I got one of these suits awhile ago before the price went down. It was THREE HUNDRED. Yes, I regret it. But here are some differences between mine and hers!! Quality issues- Aside from the hairs backing being undone, I had none of those other issues! Her nose is glued on very well. I've had no issues with it. When I had taken her eyelashes off to make my own I nearly ripped the minky, it was ON there. Differences- The foam on the inside originally wasnt included, it was just a very hard plastic strip you'd have to pad yourself. And though this is small, the buckle on the neck fur was attached very poorly on mine, but yours looks sturdier. Anyhow, thanks for reading my random youtube comment! She did a really good job, ive been trying and trying to seperate my suit from its massed produced face and simply struggle, hers is very individual and hard to tell at first impressions!

the other part of the discorse surrounds around how much are the sweatshops paying their workers to make these masks.. yes, compared to a fursuit, its less materials so less cost.. but even then if these are going for 80$ exactly how much of that is going to the hands who made it...

First of all, fabulous job! I'm always sincerely impressed by what people figure out they can do and mod in this fandom!! Second of all-- @12:20 I have seen this fabric irl. This is Flannel. Flannel keeps Heat In. Please love yourself enough to either unline the head and just wear a balaclava, or re-line it with some kind of natural fibre bamboo, lyocell, viscose, or modal fabric ;w;. I also understand the sensory issues (Yippee), but the biggest thing about lining fursuit pieces doesnt actually stem from sensory issues- it stems from keeping your sweat both off of your body and off of your suits- keep you cool and your suit less of a pain to clean. While the prevention of sensory problems is an awesome and massive bonus, The actual Use of the Middle Layer is For Hygine. Suits are stupid hot and the joke about not using the toilet in-suit is because you're sweating too much to need to expel fluid any other way. Lining a suit on top of personally wearing that middle layer actually creates heat instead of keeping it away-- opposite to the goal. Unlined heads aren't 'unprofessional', they just are cheaper and the suitmaker is making the assumption that you'll wear a balaclava to keep the sweat both off your body and off your suit (also should be ENTIRELY transparent about that fact). Sincerely, a fur nearing 30 who has passed out from heat-related stresses in cosplay WAY too many times to want to see the next generation of suiters suffer like that too!!!

I have a doki doki studio suit but tbh ALWAYS go through a smaller creator bc they were just SOOO upriced from the actual prices from the indivudual suit makers in the studio.. they also didnt ask for my measurements or anything so it rubs against my face weird and tbh for 900 dollars it wasnt worth it. i will always go through smaller creators. i still love my suit its just disappointing for having spend THAT MUCH on it

For ventilation you can use a hair dryer to soften the glue on the neck and take it out! And you can make one out of minkey or fur :) same with the eyes, if you do something like this again a hair dryer and some force pops the eyes right out!!

you can modify it for better ventilation but that requires more work. i recommend geting a simple base from someone who can 3d print or make one to modify yourself if you can. just a simple base without fur would work and it is cheaper than getting a full head made.

hihi!! i own actual kigs and have a tip !! you shoukd buy bases with open mouths as they provide more ventilation than closed mouths. you can also try getting a back head piece w/ holes in it but i'm pretty sure they are difficult to find

from what i see, they do mass procude the mask, but then they customize some specific things, but still 90% mass produced, the hair and eyes won't make it less mass produced, like wow, you changed the color of the fur. but i think you did an awesome job and it looks super cute. as some have said it already, 3d printed bases are really nice for suits cuz you can design them to have less contact, they can have more ventilation and they're also lighter than foam ones, but they're more expensive.

Honestly I lowkey wanna do this... every time I see a kigurumi fursuit I want one more and more, but there's no way in hell I'd be able to afford it. Seeing how easy this process was really makes me wanna try it! My main concern would be figuring out how to colour in the face part / what material to use as my fursona has lots of markings in her design. As far as the hair goes... I'd have to just hope to find one that has similar hair to my fursona I guess... but she does have these lighter zigzag patterns in it so I probably won't be able to find it lol

Well, if you want to put designs into the hair, you could get a mask that has the same base color and put the designs into the hair! I didn't do it this video but I'm sure it could be done with chalk/ soft pastels, OR, you could use eyeshadow (I use eyeshadow a lot with wigs) and seal it in with Got2B spray. You could also get fur from fursuitsupplies.com and sew it in as their fur is pretty affordable, and you'd only need half a yard!

if they are similar to the scene punk style hair clips with fake hair you may be able to get away with taking them off clips to sew on for that pattern in some spots. they may not last as long as fur but they do if you take proper care of them. you may even get away with using some wigs that already have that pattern if you can sew the fur that is.

I’m not a furry in my free time, I wear a mascot costume that is more of a fursuit with the redesign of the characters at my work. Anyways I have sensory issues and understand what you mean by the discomfort of wearing the suits, I will say though the more you wear them the more used to the sensory you get. The suits do have vents and you see through the mouths of the character heads, and there’s padding as well as chin straps you can add for fit and comfort. The suits do get hot some hotter then others but I’ve been doing mascot work for over 2 years now and it’s not so bad anymore. I’m hoping this will help I’m not sure it will but I hope you’ll be able to wear a fursuit if you want to

I’ve been considering getting one of the base masks (you can buy the base plastic for these by themselves) so this is super useful to see how it’s constructed!! I’ve got really mixed feelings on how ALL of this type of kig I’ve been seeing have white faces and un-altered plastic bases, they feel so… samey and lacking the self expression that comes with more typical fursuits. Even kigurumi fursuits didn’t used to be like this, it’s such a recent wave of these cheap near identical masks with no fullsuits and I think their main customers are younger people with little connection to or understanding of the community 🤔

I bought one of these , here is my review for anyone wanting to customize them . I personally did not like the minky fabric on the face so i removed it , it was EXTREMELY hard to take off , so thats a plus for durability . I used a exacto knife to carve the mouth shape into one that fit my character , the plastic was VERY thick and this was a time consuming process . I fixed the ears to my liking and i completely removed the hair and re-stitched it with the fabric of my choice so it suit my character . These suits aren’t bad if you’re looking for a affordable option and have the materials to customize it yourself .

Don't use pastels. Pastels are just loose powder. Any means if cleaning a fursuit will cause them to smear and run and touching it can rub it as well. There is another option aside from a airbrush- Dry brushing with watered down acrylics. You can get the same blush looking effect doing this. The technique is a bit hard to describe so I'd recommend searching up fursuit drybrushing to check it out
