Back in the day, the coin game "Kronespill" was popular in Norway.
PCBWay www.pcbway.com... - great quality PCBs from just $5!
These machines came in many different variants. Some all mechanical and some had electronics.
This partly electronic and partly mechanical game has a faulty controller card and one completely dead. Let's see if I can fix one of them and test it. I also visit a friend that collects these games, to play a real game.
Also called Payazzo, Pajazzo, Bajazzo, Pajatso, Jazzo
These particular variants of the game were invented and produced in Norway, and the first ones were made back in the 1930's. It was based on an earlier Finnish invention.

I've just finished this very arctic and very, very retro video. So when saying "special" then in the best way of your content. Also this was one of the most amusing entertainment to watch. The only red cross enclosures I remember were big boxes with a slot collecting banknotes and coins in Oslo airport. And those never give back. I am always fascinated how simple logic and gate electronics were used to count things and switch automation state machines. They even had some kind of randomness implemented. Lars Berg's company must have used coin machine parts from other than gaming businesses because these look professional series devices. Their slot machine approach to me look more like only hundreds sold. Probably manufactured by hand. However this might have been, an important to keep part of Norwegian history. Thank you for this documentary, Tommy.

I love it when you show me something I have never seen before. Now I want to collect a Kronespill ! (Wife says I need to get rid of a few Commodores or Ataris before I even think of adding a coin machine.)

Just a general tip, never oil or grease solenoids, it will only gum them up. The only lubricant you'd ever want to use is powdered graphite.

Those are generally referred to as both 'blade' and 'spade' connectors. In the U.S. they are usually called spade connectors, I think blade is more often used in Europe.

Hmm, Wiki says these "Bajazzo"" were german invention of early 1900s, in Finland first ones (here called pajatso) were around 1920. I recall seen my first 20p ones on year 1965, when I was 6, and those hardly had any electrics in.

Ok. I mentioned the Norwegian ones were based on a Finnish game. But these particular ones were designed and produced in Norway.

11:11 'Cable-shoes" did you say? We call them 'spade-connectors' in the UK. I guess a 'spade' is a good name for one end, and a 'shoe' is good name for the other.

Great and fun video! Nice job. :D Is it just me, or isn't the first of the numbers lighting up, when you test the machine with Kurt at the end?

You are right! It was another display than the one I tested with. Might be something wrong with the display. I did not ask him

Were these "Kronespill" made by Lars Berg in Trondheim? A friend of mine who worked in an arcade workshop here in Trondheim mentioned this some 20 years ago. I think I had some boards very similar to the ones you show

At least at the very beginning of this video the name "Lars Berg" could be read on one of the zoomed in PCB detail explanations.

@@Arcticretro In German language we also call them "Kabelschuh". I think we even use this term no matter if the blade or the shoe is refered to.

I remember the ones with fixed prices, and those late one with prices up to 20 kroner. We would find play with left over coins, coins found on the ground, or if we were lucky someone had forgotten to collect the coins returned in the phone booths. We would buy more candy or play the local arcade machine, at least where I lived they had an arcade machine in the kiosk. Of the games I can remember was replaced once a while were: burger time, Dig Dug, Altered Beast, Space Harrier. Interesting Stuff ! Where is the machine now ? :)

When you test semiconductors you should use the "diode test" function on the DMM. The "ohms" ranges apply too low voltage between the probes to "turn on" a semiconductor junction
