I know I can’t take much more my 2 girls hadn’t fought for almost 2 years. They just turned 3 and 6. I was trying doggy daycare so I could go away for a few days I took them individually I took them separate trying to get them socialized everything went great until my son and I dropped them off for their stay last Thursday within five minutes I was called and they needed vet attention for bites they attacked each other. I just returned home two separate people had taken them so we could still go on the trip and within a few minutes my older dog who’s ear is still badly hurt did not want the other dog near her of course and Snapped a little I have work all week. I watched the video and I am willing to do anything. I don’t understand if I get those collars how I leave them on always though? I feel like I have to separate them while I’m at work after this incident…just my two kids 12 and 19 will be home.

@@jaimyroland7581 How are you doing now? Our dogs are getting along again. But we had to keep them separated for 3 weeks. During that time we took them out individually for long walks and when returning home, always let them see each other through the glass door at our back garden. After two weeks they started to go near each other on both sides of the glass door without getting aggressive. Now they are fine being in the same room again. But we have to always make sure they don´t get on each others nerves., eg. when going out, one of them always tries to bite the others tail, so we have to tell him off and make him sit and wait. This really happens every time we go out. But we are trying to remember the main thing: we, humans, are the bosses and the dogs have to obey. And when they do, they also enjoy life and each others company.

I found the specific examples most helpful, like needing to step between my dogs before the first bark and separate both the instigator and the barker. I know I need to train each of them taking turns in the cage. And when my older dog is resting and the younger dog wants to play I need to remove the younger dog and move the older dog from his spot. I would soak up all of the examples I could get! My dogs are not aggressive but don't like each other. I get scuffles that can be ended verbally but sadly occasionally the older dog gets hurt (ear bites). It breaks my heart, but I will work through anything!

@@ameliablack4613 did you end up ever resolving this? My 2 dogs are doing the same thing
@cassandra64292 жыл бұрын
@@ameliablack4613 My problem is exactly like yours. My older dog is a Newfoundland and he is really old, the second is a hyperactive 1 year old field Golden Retriever. The only good thing about all the play-fighting matches they have, is that the Newfie became more active, due to his restless neighbor, and I think without him, this 8 y/o overweight and lazy guy who did not want to move before, would die by now. On the other hand, most of his life, he was the only dog in the house and received all the love and attention and when he saw the little puppy, that was sick and needed a lot of care and time, he was not happy. Now the little pup got much better, grew up physically (mentally he is still a baby), the older guy decided to show him that he is an alpha and regularly "domineering" him without paying attention to his arthritis and weight. Little one, stays still, but right after this "procedure", thinks, that now is his turn and he is aloud to play --- fight with the old guy. Even though he shows that he is playing (ail wagging, posturing), the older one does not like it one bit, and that's when barking starts. In the end he is trying to hide under the table (still barking), while GR is trying to get him out by grabbing his ear. Another unfortunate thing is that the old guy hates when the young one is playing with toys, especially when game involves the human (tug, balls throwing) and he barks, and barks, and barks, to the point his voice gets hoarse. Since he personally does not care for the toys or games, we can not invent a game to incorporate both of them. His barking is so loud and annoying, that the little one stays without his favorite toys. I love the fact that my old Newfoundland lost some weight and became active again, but I realize that this situation is not healthy. I also see that both of them trying to get more attention than another one and jealousy is a big part in their relationship.

I made it through all 27 minutes and it felt like you were just getting started! Pure gold! You talked about some of our exact problems and some of the exact mistakes we are making! We have several dogs who mostly live in peace. One is periodically aggressive against our oldest dog. Other times they were fine and the fight (one-sided) starts out of the blue. Yes, the injuries to our old girl are super traumatic for her and all of us. We want to give it a try to not have to give up the other dog as she is great in all other ways. I've been failing as their owner - thank you so much for showing me how I can do right by both of them. Most of my mistakes have to do with letting the aggressive dog make too many decisions (invading my space, guarding me from other dogs, bad on leash, etc) Please do a Part 2 and go ahead and talk for an hour.

Love your comment. Ours is one sided also. 12 month old has started being dominant to my 8 year old dog. Out of the blue basically. Old girl will take so much but young dog is hell bent on making a mess out of her even with a muzzle on and then the old girl reacts and oh 😮 wow! I learnt more in this half hour than I have in my whole life and this is exactly what I was sitting here searching and searching for. Good luck with your doggos. Would love to hear how you progress.

@drjohnson982 жыл бұрын
@@aussiegrace Unfortunately, I have an update on our progress already. The aggressive dog re-attacked again. Our 12 year old is being stitched again as I type. This was not situational at all - they were not crowded together, no resources involved or anything like that. I have been keeping them apart while the old girl healed. Just took her cone off last night from the last bout. All my mistake, the aggressor was far behind us and on a long leash as I was moving our old girls from an outbuilding to our yard. Things were calm and I thought the situation was safe and under control The aggressor came some distance to attack from behind and it was on before I knew it. So I get the total idiot award for subjecting our faithful dog to this. I have to choose loyalty to our long time faithful companion over the otherwise sweet rescue we took in. Only you know your situation. Based on my experience, I would advise (and I'm an idiot so don't take my advice) that you review Larry's video, take the question very seriously, and picture in your mind your 8 year old seriously injured or dead. With that potential outcome in your mind, weigh whether 1) you are up to the task of solving this behavioral problem and 2) if the risk of injury or death to your faithful longtime companion is worth it if you don't. Sorry to be so blunt, but this is very immediate for us and I deeply regret having put my dog at risk this way. This is not a rash decision on our part and we have other dogs. I hate to surrender the aggressor back to the shelter that she came from, and that I volunteer at. But that is the outcome for us. I'm not saying it is impossible to fix this problem. Had I known Larry's advice when this problem started we would have more time and might have been able to fix it. But we were well down the road with our old dog having been attacked twice already. The third attack eliminated all margin we had left and, as I said, I feel stupid for not calling it earlier. It came at our dog's expense and not mine (except the emotional toll). I wish you success with your problem but really hope you will carefully consider. If you proceed, maybe the best route would be to get the best possible trainer to help you. This is a serious problem and the dogs pay for our mistakes. Hindsight is perfect but zero comfort. Good luck.

We were having issues with our 6 year old chihuahua and our new Aussie puppy. Chihuahua was resource guarding and the Aussie loved violating her space, regardless of getting bit in the face. He’s so young that he doesn’t understand dog language yet. We started with telling the chihuahua no and removing her from the situation. It wasn’t helping. I followed everything here for 2 weeks and what a difference! It’s amazing how the chihuahua looks at me right in the eyes when the Aussie is out of line. She knows that she doesn’t have to handle it because I’m going to. She calmly waits for me to remove him. We’ve gone 2 days now without a single attack, growl, or snarl and they’re even starting to share toys. The puppy is starting to respect her space. Thank you!!

This is so great. Thank you for this. Both of my dogs have lived peacefully for about 5 years together, and recently one has been lunging at the other and cornering him. You are 1000% correct that it's because I haven't been putting in the time, and I've allowed one dog to feel comfortable doing so. I've even noticed that after I break her away from him, and tell her to leave, she will start to growl at me until i do not move out of her space. She then seems insanely guilty. She has always been a very anxious dog, and I feel awful knowing that it's definitely due to me not providing that leadership and confidence. I wish I lived closer because I know this can be fixed. I've spent well over $1,000 dollars in training, and they all want to make loud noises and stomp or yell. I just want respect and for them to both know that I'll step in when needed. This is so helpful, thank you!

Hi Larry. I just watched your video regarding "aggression of a new dog in the house towards existing dog". We have a male Beagle that is 9 1/2 years old and we've had him since he was 2. Three months ago we adopted a 6 year old female Beagle. Things have been very good until recently. The other day my 9yo was sitting on the couch next to my wife. The new dog came over and tried to get up on my wife and the 9yo growled at her and all hell broke loose. She grabbed his ear and refused to let go. The result was a torn ear and several stitches. Right now he is enjoying the protection of the cone on his head. She has been staying clear of him because of it. We are in fear of what is going to happen once we remove it in another week. He had pretty much shown dominance and did so within two weeks of her arriving. He mounted her one day and she had pretty much shown respect for him and it seemed that she now accepted him as the alpha until this recent incident. My wife and I have accepted the fact that WE need to be fixed. The 9yo has led a pretty charmed life but now we have to change his habits. I am getting the education that I think we need from watching you and Milan and now we have to implement it. I will research your youtube page to try to find more advice. In the meantime, what recommendations might you have moving forward from here. Thank you very much

Thank you so much for this video! We have 3 female dogs, 2 hounds and a pit. The hounds we rescued several years back and they both had rough lives before we got them, one was even abused regularly, so they have their own triggers and insecurities we have worked through and the pit we have had since she was a puppy (she’s the youngest) and the pit has been picking fights with the other two since she got to be about a year and a half of age. Last night, she drew blood on our very docile hound who has never engaged in a fight since we have had her. I think it took that moment to realize it wasn’t just rivalry between the other two. It was extremely difficult to separate them because the pit doesn’t know when to stop once she gets going and we have honestly both ignored and probably contributed to the warning signs in the past instead of taking the action needed to prevent it from going this far. We kept them separated last night and are done with the training methods that aren’t working (we never punish them physically, but like you said - positive reinforcement won’t work for this either) and are ready to get down and dirty with the tough love. This video goes along with other research I’ve done online and I’ll be taking what you said to heart. Thank you again and I hope to be able to share a positive update with you a year (or sooner) from now.

I recently had an game changing incident with my two Rottweilers. I allowed the behaviors to go on and realized what a disservice I did to them and the breed I love so much. I’m in the process of selecting a local trainer to work with us, and until then I’ve adopted a zero tolerance policy to them doing what they want vs what they are told to do. I was thinking about some leashes for them to wear in the house and will follow up with the ones you recommended. Will see what the trainers say in a week or two, I’m trying to use as much positive re-enforcement as I can but taking corrective actions immediately when they are not listening. Small steps and we will work our way up, but I’m glad to hear that absolute control is required.

I own a German Shepherd and a Black Lab mix. At first, the German Shepherd was dominant because the Black Lab mix was younger, but now, the Lab is dominant. The Lab will go after the Shepherd anytime the Shepherd comes near me or there is food nearby. The aggression is getting worse between the two of them. The German Shepherd has never been properly socialized, and when my sister came to visit, he went after her and bit her badly. The Lab, however, has never bitten anyone except the GS, and has a more friendly disposition toward people. I trained both dogs extensively, and I have never had dogs that didn't get along. Watching this video gave me direction of how to train these dogs. I know I have a lot more to learn about aggression, but at least I have some tools to go forward. Thank you, Larry!

Thank you for the advice ! Will put it to good use. We have two female German shepherds. Both 10 months old from different breeders. They’ve been through professional training with prong collars and the trainer has insisted that keeping the leashes loose is best and tugging or snapping to correct behavior. We’ve made the mistake of letting them play rough and only correct behavior when it starts to seem a little bit too rough. Today they got into a fight in the backyard while outside with my kids. My son had to pull one away from the other after one tried to take a tennis ball from the Alfa female. We’ve been concerned about this becoming a problem but didn’t recognize the signs in time. Fortunately neither dog appears injured and my son only suffered a single tooth scratch on his hand. We love both of these dogs and I personally spend most of my time with them. It sounds like I’m going to be spending more time and energy to keep them both safe and able to live together in the same home. I appreciate your insights!

Dont know how to thank you enough for this video, it was such an eye opener for us as dog owners. I have had dogs all my life multiple at each time and even different breeds and never ever had to to deal with any aggression from any one of the dogs till sadly when we rescued a 40 pound dog and then a year later adopted a puppy to keep the rescue company. Guess we missed all the signs as there was constant aggression from the rescue to our puppy as both were females. It got so bad that the rescue was drawing blood every time it got a chance. Therefore after much thought and advise we decided to rehome our rescue for the betterment and the safety of the new pup. But we still hurt for having to have to do this, had we been more educated on how to deal with this situation this would be a different conversation. Thank you for your no BS approach ! Have spent thousands on board/training with no result. I am trying to reintroduce 2 of our dogs that have just fought, and I realized that the problem started with me coddling the one that was shy and fearful, letting him get away with a little too much. Will begin the crating method you described right away, and ( better late than never ) reinforce who is boss.

Sir, I am so shocked on how this really speaks to me in volume. I'm having a hard time with my dogs and I feel like giving up, it's been nothing but chaos now since I moved out and living by my self now. It's a case between 2 dogs that get along 80% of the time but 20% is them almost killing themselves. I need help please, I feel like I need a miracle at this point. I'm losing it, feel like I'm losing in life right now.

This is a tough one for us because our older dog is deaf and can't hear any growling or commands from us we use hands to give him commands. Recently our younger dog has been growling more and getting more aggressive with the older one, attacks. They're both in the house while we're at work as well. They are fine 90% of the time. I just watched this video! A light went on in my brain. You are absolutely correct! We have added a 1 year French Bulldog to our existing home pack. From the first day he walked in our home (he was not neutered) he fixated on our 7 month olde English bulldog who was not neutered at the time. I got them both fixed. We are doing right now exactly what you say in this video with both dogs. Our home has been chaotic! The easy way would be to get rid of the new dog however HUMAN has messed him up with e collars. His mind is in constant anxiety. We did seperate them in the house which we no longer do and following your steps. If we can't get him right we have to re home him.

Thankyou so much. We just adopted an olde English bulldog. They owners came to the realization that they couldn’t commit the time to dealing with it safely as they have young children. The dogs were closer in size than ours and we have three. We see a daily random attack from our new puppy and it occurs over attention towards a family member. I am determined work this out of her. Thankyou for this video. I will purchase the collar and small leash today and begin the tactics you suggested. I want my dogs living their best life.

Thus whenever the puppy visits, I keep them separated and interact with them separately. Today I was like 🗣"Y'all gonna learn to get along!" Started with a walk together. Now we're in the same room both on leashes "ignoring" each other and FOCUSED on me with redirection as needed. Both are crate trained so now I'll just put their crates side by side instead of in separate rooms. Going to also get the dominance collar for the puppy because she pulls when walking. The harness we use is not working. 🤣🤦🏾♀️

@tracy33642 жыл бұрын
My gsd is now 11 months and very strong and big ..he's much better with my dogs now, very occasionally he still has a go at them but much much better as he's grown..like you I was afraid I couldn't cope with it all it was too intense but when ever he got aggressive with them I made him go to a place in the house where he couldnt get to them, and also in view of them so not totally away from their sight(I sectioned off an area with a baby gate in the hallway) and he stayed there till he calmed down...and I mean EVERYTIME he had a go I moved him and said NO very firmly it was exhausting but he knows now if he does have a go he's being moved. And all the family do it they have to be involved too. Also in the garden I just kept an eye on him if he started I put a lead on and walked him in the house again and again and again ....I don't think there's a fast simple solution it's just routine discipline and being consistent with them once they realise they can't get away with it they start to learn...and he's such a wonderful boy now they play together sometime roughly but you get to know the signs of possible escalation and just follow the routine you have . It's difficult if you are at work or out shopping etc so at the moment if I can't bebthere they are sectioned off in the kitchen so they are together but can't harm each other he's still so young and hasn't been done yet so I don't want to risk them being on their own yet till I'm 100% sure. They are wonderful dogs but very hard work for a year or two my 3 year old gsd is calm obedient she's such a pleasure. Hope you get on OK good luck.

I have 3 dogs (2 German Shepherds from the same litter and 1 Aussie mutt) and the younger, bigger GSD frequently attacks the older, smaller mutt randomly and seemingly without cause. It always occurs when they are outside together (they never fight in the house), and I am always supervising. I'm convinced that my supervision has saved my mutt's life every time since I have been able to break up the fights. But, I'm at a loss on what to do. It's been happening off-and-on for 5 years. I try to keep them apart as much as possible but sometimes I have no choice but to allow them in the same space for a short amount of time outside.

We have a similar situation . . . 2 sister GS & 1 obviously wanted to be a mama, mated her with sons GS & had 4 pups . . . all with prearranged homes by Christmas 2022 (all backed out - unsure of finances) . . . son took his pick of litter & we can't help him with any problems between father & son, cause we have 2 brothers & sister with mom & aunt!!! I first watched this video year ago when I realized we were gonna have all 5 permanently - fixed the aunt, then mama, & finally sister, leaving both males intact - got enough to deal with without worrying about more puppies & to close of breeding! So . . . I am rewatching this to try to catch behavioral problems to nip jealousy & possessive situation in the bud before serious aggression becomes part of the problem. I will say, he is describing exactly what Caesar describes & displays in videos - do not add to the aggression with pain, punishment techniques - if the owner is stressed out, the dogs will be too, be calm & in control. [Caesar has an excellent video: woman in physical abuse situation, nasty separation, emotional - adult daughter suicidal & death of mother - multiple dogs has been experiencing all this trauma with her!!! Each became protective, defensive, possessive & she had to keep all 3 dogs separate at all times, she was a basket case - Caesar had to help her deal with her emotions, before he could help her with her emotionally supportive dogs - 2 part episode, I'm anxiously awaiting the 2nd one!!!]

LARRY... LarRy... Larry..... I can't thank you enough man✨🙏✨🏆💞 I'm checking in probably around a year later... Of what was bad aggression. --I did what you said along with a few other things.... And we are a happy family. I don't have to do any of things any more... I do still walk them together but that's more out of convenience. - I am able to trust them fine with no crate and by themselves. But it was not without your teaching. -Two medium size dogs... Mom and baby, we moved something happened... Maybe it was the roommate, maybe small door way, maybe is was my own aggression that I'm working on... who knows? But something happened after 3years of being fine with eachother, and they could not be next to each other. I found your video in perfect timing. We did move. So that probably helped. I did what you said separated with cage. 5 tools I used 1)cage to separate, but still near each other in the same room. 2) leash; had someone hold one of them on leash, while I held the other on leash and would allow them to get close enough for comfort and would create distance at any sign of aggression. 3) Muzzle, once they got comfortable with being next to each other on leash, I put on the muzzle for them to be around each other without the leash. It really helped ease the tension that I was contributing *they had me on eggshells 🤦an it was really hard not to be affected. 4) I got a silent no bark tool. When I introduced them again after baby stepping all of these things... I had a muzzle on and she went after her mom. And something happened that changed for the better. I had the no bark tool that I activated right in the moment. They don't like the sound, it got her attention right way in the moment. I barked at her and she had the muzzle on, so her aggression was non-affective. 5)Walked them together, and had a serious talk with them. I told them we are family....they are not bullying me in my own home. -They both need let go of whatever it is ... because neither one of them are going anywhere...and that I love them both. -I would pet them together, at the same time, and give them treats together at the same time. ---Who knows what and how much English dogs understand? But they seem to understand. Now ....it's a non issue. I forgot that was even a problem until I saw this video again. ✨🙏✨I am your testimony.... That what you said holds weight. There is hope *if one is willing to put in the work like you said. Greater Forces are proud of you Larry! You are inspiring the people to go the extra mile to hone in on their own greatness, sharpen the gift they have to give the world, and share it🌍.... Just like you're doing with your skills, and that's what I consider having the true essence of a great leader to be 👑. You're not just leading dogs.... you're leading people. -I still have to work on aggression towards other dogs and getting their attention while distracted. But in home aggression is a non issue now.... Can not thank you enough! 🏆

Thank you for this comment. It is very specific and I like the steps you took along the way. Were there any other things you did? I just got a large 4 month puppy who is perfect in every way except he randomly goes for my resident 2 Yr old collie. He's much bigger and he's trying to do damage when he goes for her. But half the time he barely seems to register she's there. It's day 2 of the puppy being here so I'm stressed the F out!

@@RealMeatyBalls I would love to see more common knowledge on helpful steps for introducing animals properly. Maybe I just haven't researched enough myself? Some animals are fine right away... My lab mix 9 month puppy gave me no problems when my 2year old? Chihuahua adopted us. It was this weird instant trust.... We were a packaged deal. I sometimes wonder if it's not those easy cases that confuse us? And then we forget to lean on the safe side. I've definitely messed that up before. I'd get a crate ASAP and a muzzle. If you don't have access to any of that immediately. I'd keep them separate. Then Ideally with another person walk parallel in a large space.... With a large space in-between *enough space that they can both be relaxed. Then walk at the same time with the other person and slowly scoot in closer. Listen to them for them to tell you when they're uncomfortable and don't go any closer... Create distance if they start acting up. Make sure the other person is in the same page with you and knows to create distance. If you lack another person that will help you. You could try tying one dog up securely. Then bring the other dog out on a secure leash. And just start walking pacing back and forth.... starting out at a good distance and giving treats for good behavior. And slowly move closer towards the other dog pacing back and forth...nice easy walk. And moving closer towards the other dog. *from watching these helpful dog trainers it brought light that Dogs seem to have aggression when you walk head on. So when pacing I'd say do it in shape of a T if that makes any sense. Pass by the other dog as if the tied up dog is in vertical direction and you and the other dog are walking in a horizontal direct... Slowly moving closer as you can for comfort... And move away when they start communicating discomfort. -My dogs and I visited my brother who's back yard has a chain link fence. And my dog was aggressively barking at the neighbors dog who was a pitbull angel. His person took him to some kind of PetSmart training. So he just ignored my dog... Which was perfect. I put my dog on a leash instead of letting her run free in the back yard. We practiced this pacing... I also corrected her with a "No" and a tug if she started acting up. We didn't it for maybe 15mins. Until she could be next to the dog without any reaction. I took her off the leash to roam in our backyard and just like that it was magic they were fine. She never barked at the neighbors dog again. Now that worked so well with that neighbor, I imagine cause her dog had already been trained and was non reactive. -But just like Larry talks about...we got to put in the work if we want the dogs to respond. *I love a muzzle. My Dog hates it... It cuts up her nose... I have to get a better one. But I'm surprised they are not more popular. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is having any kind of behavior issues. It doesn't have to be a forever thing.... But it can be a bridge that closes the gap. --Hopefully Larry is able to see this and let you know if there is anything he disagrees with. He is the trained professional. I am just doing the best I can😁 good luck to all the furfriends out there.

As a trainer, I run into this often and what is most frustrating is that owners actually DON'T want to put in the work. Everyone wants the Benji or Lassie in the movies and can't accept the realities of dog ownership. You're right--the ones who are willing to put in the dedicated effort are terrific, but so many of the people I encounter have kids and/or too many other distractions to be able to focus fully on the dogs. Sadly, these are the same families whose children get bit when all hell breaks loose. Another struggle is when the adults are not on the same page. I always ensure that BOTH adults in the family can see eye to eye and work TOGETHER on correcting the situation. What I find fascinating is the personal psychology of the people I work with. Very few want to be what they perceive as the bad guy. "But I want Fido to LIKE me!" Teaching respect through discipline and by "being the captain" is what keeps dogs OUT of shelters, folks.
