Impressing! I wouldn't have thought that they top of them tree survives - but it did. Congratulations!!

Well, so far it did! Still green, but plants can fool one for a long time. Next repot I will know whether roots have formed!

Cursing always helps. Except when accidentally done in front of a toddler... That looping root IS really cool! Congratulations on your new cutting's roots! It's not a fail, it saw a minor setback for the purpose of learning!

Haha, yeah, cursing is at times frowned upon!

Jelle - Good call on removing the "failed" air layer and trying again as a cutting. Another technique you can try to induce root formation when you get a callous without roots is to scarify it, similar to the method for getting large wounds to heal. Appreciate how well you illustrated a year-long process in this "messy" video! Documenting your practical experiences is enlightening and entertaining. - John

Hey John, thank you. I am aware of that. In this case, the yellowing of the leaves left me a bit uncertain. I am nto sure that the cutting has rooted though. TIme will tell.

Hi Jelle, cocopeat contains a lot of salts, if you flush it and messure the water you go up to over 3k microsiemens.

I have heard this before, which is a bit odd, as it is sold as substrate!

Sorry - I was down to see this as a premiere and then got caught up with my japanese maple pruning. I really enjoyed the content and the results of the 'cuttings' is pretty good. I think I have had a similiar result with my failed hornbeam airlayer / cutting - in todays video. It was good to see 'old Jelle' again :)

This channel probably became my favourite bonsai channel, period. Keep it up Jelle! P.S. I did about 30 softwood japanese maple cuttings following your advice about 3 weeks ago, now I'm feeling an urge to pull them and see what's happening, how long should I wait 😅?
@Yurup Жыл бұрын
Next year, when the buds start to break.
@GrowingBonsai Жыл бұрын
Do not wait. Just do not pull on them. If they start growing, they are good. But just leave them till repotting time.
