I kinda like how they changed lyras and her moms hair color in both the film and tv show to match each other. I remember being confused when in the book it was revealed that SPOILER she and lord azriel are her parents, cuz they were both described as dark, and having black hair, and well she is blonde. But in a book i feel like this is less of a deal because many readers kinda forget physical appearnce, but in a movie where u see it continuously its better this way cuz it makes more sense. EDIT: please if you want to inform me that it is possible for two people with black hair to have a blonde child, I know that it is. But thanks to everyone who chimed in, I did not know that it was this usual, i thought it would be super rare. Have a nice day! :)

Lyra still can't be their child though, since two blue eyed parents can't have a brown eyed baby and in the show they both have blue eyes and she has brown. When I was a kid, I read Lord Asriel as a black character. He's described as having black eyes, black hair and "dark features". I thought that people knew that Lyra was Asriel's kid and not Mr Coulters because she was darker skinned than her mother or potential father. Its been a long time since I read any of the books, so I don't recall if any of the skin tones are actually mentioned in-universe, I just remember the film coming out in 2007 and not caring at all for most of the characters :/ the HBO version while I'm not keen on some of the characters physical appearances (including James as Asriel) the acting is outstanding in my opinion, and I'm glad we're getting to explore perspectives beyond just Lyra's or Will's. Learning more about Mrs Coulters traumatic childhood and her abusive relationship with her dæmon? Wow
@chartreusephoenix65813 жыл бұрын
Okay spoiler warning. You have been warned. Lee I personally loved Lin’s performance of Lee. He was this young scrappy man who for a while didn’t really care about anyone outside of himself. When Lyra comes into his life he becomes like a father to her. And his death was one of if not the most emotion things I’ve ever read. Someone young playing him would give much more power to his death. Sam Elliott’s performance(which I loved), showed Lee as more of a old man, who had already lived his life. Lin’s performance showed a young man with so much of his life ahead of him. Lord Asriel I personally feel that James McAvoy played Asriel much better. He delivered the powerful dangerousness of the character. I honestly can’t picture Craig’s Asriel killing Roger. I might add more

Tbf Will is also described as dark haired and eyed with a strong jaw, Pullman really only describes characters as necessary and to a bare minimum, as if the characters got strong impressions of certain aspects; Wills jaw, Lyra's eyes, Asriel's tall and foreboding figure, or Mrs. Coulters scent; but overlooked others which, does happen in everyday life.
@Hanasdumpingbox2 жыл бұрын
I'm currently reading the book and yes from the description I imagined lord Asriel to be black and I imagined Lyra to have brownish skin (I was spoiled and knew Mrs Coultier was her mother and Lord Asriel was her father so I put their skin colors together) or tanned skin because she's quite adventurous so I assumed she would be out in the sun alot.

@fanpet39123 жыл бұрын
The hair is possible, but the eyes aren't. In the show, that is. In the book it's fine. Also just so you know there's a difference between dirty blonde and dark blonde? It's kind of hard to explain but dark blonde is generally more golden-y and a bit closer to brown

Fun fact: the reason the movie didn't kill Roger is because it was bought by the catholic church to prevent them from making the sequels because of the religious elements.
@Schlachtenhase10 ай бұрын
nah, that's not true. the catholic church wasn't keen on a lot of movies, rarely if ever stopped them from getting made. the director wanted to start the second movie with the scene of Roger being killed, cuz he thought it work better that way. the reason no second film was made was financial. Either because the first one just didn't make as much as they were hoping for, which is pretty important in the midst of a financial crisis, and/or because the production company had safer, "more important" options lined up, such as the hobbit.

I was so glad to hear that you've been wanting to do Series of Unfortunate Events, I was hoping that could happen someday! But it didn't occur to me that there wouldn't be enough character description to help you make a video... Count Olaf and many of the guardians are described in detail, but it's true that there isn't much for the Baudelaires beyond 'pleasant facial features' and their distinctive traits like Klaus' glasses and Sunny's teeth. I suppose you get the most with Violet, with her long dark hair and ribbon, slender face (book 1) and physique (book 8), and I'm sure it's mentioned that she's taller than Klaus... I really tried, but that's not much! Maybe the trio you draw could be Violet, Count Olaf, and the Quagmires?

I haven't watched the movie in a couple of years, but I remember that it was really confusing and I used to get it mixed up with the Polar Express when I was younger The show, tho, is SO GOOD AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH I heard that the show was coming out, so I (finally) read the books AND THEY'RE SO GOOD! It's pretty accurate, even if there are a couple minor changes, and I really like it overall, they did a super good job adapting it. I know that Lyra is supposed to be blonde, but I honestly like her better as a brunette. I think that all the actors did an amazing job pulling off the characters, and even tho they don't all look entirely accurate, they all act really well and do a really good job with the characters. The way that you drew and described how you felt about Azriel actually reminded me of Kaz Brekker, who was played by Freddy Carter in the Shadow and Bone Netflix show. Which made me want to request a Shadow and Bone By the Book, if you want. I think that they got the characters pretty spot on, other than some small changes, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it :)
