I formalized the text for the Power and put it in my share folder. If you want access, please tell me in comment and leave a Like. :) It really helps me out! (I finally decided to make the initial roll a [Resolute vs Resolute].

I would love access to your shared folder and take a look, since I'm also struggeling with frog adversaries because of this power ;-) Thanks for the work you put into making these videos! Very useful stuff as always!

Super good idea! Thank You.

Could do the common rule of +2 to save for each level of size of the target. That makes it incredibly hard to transform trolls and the big one off monsters. But you can still turn a human into a frog somewhat easy. As it is one of the only essentially instant death spells it probably does need the extra adjustments.

That's a good idea. Apply Robust modifiers as penalties to the Resolute check. I can see that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just recently discovered Symbaroum (and your channel!) and this was one of the two main spells I was warned about as a starting player/likely GM. The other was Bend Will. Do you find that one as problematic as Maltransformation? If so, any tips? I don't want to have to give every adventure finale villain/adversary two levels of Steadfast just to have a half decent chance of doing something after the first turn.

I do have suggestions! :) I'm at work right now. I need to make a little video about that...

What if the mystic can only use this power on opponents who have an equal or lesser amount of total experience points than the mystic? In this way stronger opponents, who usually have a greater amount of total experience points than the individual player, would be immune, but the spell would still be useful in a battle against a greater amount of enemies than the party, because often in such cases of numerical majority, enemies tend to have less experience than the individual player. Clearly it may be a bit redundant for the mystic to have to ask the GM each time if it is possible to use the power, but at least it would solve many problems.

The partly very unbalanced spell is also a thorn in my eye. I'm always a little more careful with house rules because I think it leverages the system. But basically, you're right. I think I will adjust it a little and then take over in my group so. My changes: - Equipment that the target holds in his hands, falls to the ground. So, you can use the spell also good for disarming ;) - The retries I would make double the difficult per attempt (1st throw -1, 2nd throw -2, 3rd throw -4, ...) so the theme spam is not eliminated but the players also do not have the abundance of spells as in DnD where you then just cast something else. How do you deal with the Spell ?force? (not sure with the English translation - german "Zwang" Description: Material: Silverring Novice Active. The mystic can seize control of a creature's mind by making a successful competitive action [Willpower←Willpower], and control lasts until the mystic loses concentration or fails his action in one of the following rounds [Willpower←Willpower]. The controlled creature can only take one action per round and cannot use any active abilities or powers ....) Here maybe your 2nd point (if the target suffers damage the mystic must create another concentration throw) would make sense or?

Yeah, I think a Concentration if the target of Bend Will takes damage is a good idea.

How have these rules aged? Have you changed any or stopped using them?

I have adopted a few houserules, yes, but not that much. They are holding up great. And my PCs have 244 XP in the bank.

So my issue is that I feel you're fundamentally changing the spell from a transformation spell into a pacify or sleep spell. And then nerfing it further with the concentration -dmg test. Powerful spells existing make the game unique. But maybe have a powerful consequence. The concentration check vs dmg taken is a great idea. Maybe also something like 1d8 corruption cannot be reduced. There is a concentration check each turn, each turn the difficulty increases by +2. Things like that. Maybe have a set of transformations with size tiers and every size you try and go down requires more corruption and increases difficulty. Strong powerful spells are dangerous and complex. But I wouldn't want to nerf it. I'd prefer to add consequences.

I just think Maltransformation is very powerful already at Novice level, and the spamming of this spell isn’t conducive to immersion. Everything quickly becomes a joke, unfortunately. I don’t see how it pacifiés anything though, since the creature can still act, to flee or attack. It just really makes life difficult for the poor sod that was transformed. So I agree it is a non lethal way to neutralize an enemy.
