For those wondering , the game doesnt use year zero engine because its not (originally) a free league game, its made by a company called Järnringen that later merged with Free League. Its a different team and a different system thou

A truly wonderful game world and a robust rules system. It gets tricky as the characters rise to higher skill; if they specialise wisely, it can seriously unbalance some encounters and require cunning GM play to prevent. But overall top 3 TTRPG for myself.

Thank you for this video. We had originally decided to play the 5e conversion of this but decided to switch to the old school rules two days before session zero. This quickly taught me the basics and quickly let me wrap my head around the system. I went from having no clue how the system worked to having a character sheet ready to go in less than an hour.

I like the setting how different Elves are from average fantasy.

Oh yeah, for sure. This setting feels so rich and deep. And the different races/cultures clash against each other in such interesting ways.

This is the second video I've seen where rolling in combat to hit a creature the "Quick" stat is used, but I thought that you use the DEFENSE derived stat. So if a monster attacks you and you have a derived stat of say 7 for defense and they have an accurate which is horrible lets say and it says +2, you add 2 to 7 (your defense) and then you need to roll under a 9 to not get hit. The same is true when attacking a monster, they have a defense modifier that modifies the PCs accuracy i.e. monster has a defense of +3 (maybe it's slow and large so easier to hit) you have an accuracy of 12, so you would roll 15 or under to hit. I'm at 18:28 of the video and haven't finished yet and need to leave for work so maybe you clarify at the end or I missed something but I was just curious if what I am thinking is correct. Thanks and awesome vid! BTW I'm just getting into Free League games and love them, I think I've purchased just about everything they've put out except for about 3 books. 🙂

The setting is excellent, the only other fantasy setting I enjoy as much would be Runequest's Glorantha. Both very deep lore. Great overview of the rules. Free League are one of my current favourite publishers, very good production values and customer support. The books are gorgeous, Symbaroum especially, with continuity of art throughout systems. Vaesen is also excellent, Coriolis is too.

Nice overview. Thanks. On the bookshelf with the dragon and the 5e books, you have a small book with a red spine, sitting horizontally on the shelf below the 5e books. Immediately under that red spined book, there are three other small books that look like they might be from the same set. May I ask what they are please? They look like a set of novels I illustrated the covers for, but I've never seen anyone else with those books.
@WorldofGameDesign Жыл бұрын
Hey Antmanbrooks! Those are Forgotten Realms books, specifically the Drizzt Homeland series, I believe.

The one thing I am still confused about is the armor dice. Light armour had a D4 armor die. Does that mean you automatically block 4 damage or do you roll a D4 to see how much you block?
@WorldofGameDesign Жыл бұрын
You would roll a d4 and see how much you block.

Oh the d20 reminds me of playing Fallout TTRPG. Gosh, that system is so easily broken, but it's so wonderfully snappy that you can get a lot done in one game. Except shopping, that always bigs down a game. 🤣

Sounds interesting, but I ain't a big fan of race restrictions because it can get a bit too racialist though I get the reason for it and not big fan of having rigid slots for your character. It does sound interesting though, and I love that the KZbin video says Skyrim LMAO. Do like the shadow and corruption because it also reminds me of Cyberpsychosis in Cyberpunk and I do like that in fantasy - a real cost. The other element is the strictness on healing which is similar to how Cyberpunk was restrictive on heals
