Well, hard to say what could be the problem. Have you checked the cable ends are properly in place? I haven’t had any problems with that cable so far…

I did similar to mine for rustproofing it, messy job it was too lol

Yes it’s messy, that’s why I’m using this solvent free stuff on the inside of the car… Very mild smell, unlike many other rustproofing products.
