On the actuator switch vaccuum for pressure and put the "controller" in line. That will force it shut under boost instead of opening and you will have to bleed some off to keep boost down. In stock form it will fail safe to gate but in that config it will fail to as much boost as the turbo can make so be a little careful. Oh and it doesn't really need the stock bov so you can lock that shut however you like. The turbo might not last as long but I doubt it matters on this particular one.

I've been chomping at the bit for another DSM video! That clutch is an ACT 2600, a very common clutch upgrade for these cars. The flywheel is made by Fidanza. That's not your front diff, it's your transfer case. The front diff, viscous coupler and center diff are all inside the transmission. It's super common for people to use Redline Heavyweight Shockproof in the transfer case and rear diff, but it doesn't work well in cold climates as you've noticed. There are lots of brake upgrades available for these cars. I'm not a 2g guy, but I believe there's a JDM Galant front knuckle you can bolt up that will allow you to bolt on EVO 7-9 Brembos. People make adapters to bolt them up as well. Same goes for 1st Gen CTS-V front Brembos. 3000GT VR4 brakes are also a decent upgrade. Better pads, fluid and SS brake lines go a long way towards making the stock brakes feel way better too. That car has definitely been more heavily modified in its past with a clutch like that, and the wideband bung, and the FP exhaust manifold, which is waaay overkill for the stock turbo, but it sounds like you're gonna upgrade that too. The stock BOV is leaking all of the extra boost you're trying to throw at it, and if you change that you'll just hit fuel cut above 15 or 16psi when the stock fuel injectors get maxed out. Definitely check to see what kind of fuel pump it has too, I'm willing to bet it's been upgraded. Keep the DSM videos coming! So stoked for this!

Stock 2G 450's can handle 19-21lbs from a 14B easily. I logged IDC's at no more than 80-85% when running a Walbro 190 and stock injectors on a 14B @ like 24lbs or something ridiculous like that(very long ago. Pocketlogger ftw!) Which is what that turbo is. The limiting factor is the stock fuel pump. Anything over 15-16lbs even with a rewire and the OEM pump starts leaning out pretty good. All this assuming you can get around the 2G ECU's ridiculous heavy-handed approach to fuel cut where it'll absolutely completely shut you out at anything over 15lbs or so. Back in the day I used to put race gas in my "stock" DSM(free mods, cut air can, and a MBC), ran 22-23lbs of boost, and ran 12.9's that way. Was hilarious, even with the stock paper cone air filter. AFRs got kinda sketchy but on Q16 it shrugged it off. But I digress. Regardless, that's my only correction. Everything else you said is 100% true.
@CaptainTonus
@CaptainTonus Жыл бұрын
@@basedemt6608 I didn't realize that thing had a 14b, or I totally wasn't paying attention. I used to fuel cut bad in my 1g with a 14b at like 16psi, especially on a cold night. I had all the basic upgrades at the time. May have even had a Walbro 255 in there, but can't remember as it was over 20 years ago 🤣

Hey Alex, DMS's are my jam. The goopy fluid in the transfercase is redline heavy shockproof gear oil. The front and center diffs live in the transmission. Its thick AF, but that is VERY thick and needs to be changed. It was common back in my DSM modding days to mix the transfercase 50/50 with MT90 and heavy ShockProof oil. In the transmission we used redline MTL and MT90 mixed 50/50, and rear diff we used straight heavy shockproof.

@legitstreetcars couldn't be more wrong on how the awd system works. You essentially described how an evo works, which is not at all how these dsms work. They do not have active center differentials. The center differential is located inside the transmission. This is why the transmission has 3 outputs and the transfer case has 1 output. On the evo the front axles go into the transfer case not the transmission. Even the drivers side passes through the transmission and engages the transfer case concentric with the transfer case input. The dsm center differential always attempts to send 50% power to the front and 50% to the rear. It works like an open differential until the viscous coupling LSD sees enough slip to raise the temp of the fluid enough to lock it. At that point it is completely locked. The transfer case takes 0.35 quarts I believe, and the redline stuff was very common back in the day. I highly HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you use the mitsubishi fluids in all of these driveline components. You don't have to tell your sponsor, but it's been found over the decades these drivelines are very picky and you are best off using the OE stuff. It's expensive but if you grenade this stuff you might be SOL given how rare they've become.

Keep the original colour, it's cool the way it is. Gingium made a mid engined eclipse. Man, that thing was cursed! It burned to the ground on give away day. Really bad luck , but the youtube series are a good watch if you want to know about eclipses.

What color should I paint the GSX? Originally I was thinking white but I have the opportunity to go with any color so I need some opinions. I don't want to do blue as there are many cars I want to buy that come in a blue I like already. Thanks!!

Just a note for beginners on wheel bearing troubleshooting. When checking for a bad wheel bearing spin the wheel and grab the metal part of the strut above the wheel to feel for a vibration. Sometimes its not always easy to hear the bad bearing. If you feel a heavy/grinding vibration compared to the other wheels the bearing is bad.

2g DSM looks really good in red or black. Would probably do Evo 8 brakes and good pads. As for the turbo, I remember the 16g being a common upgrade. Upgrade the center section if desired with one of the options available.

Alex. Love the videos. But we need to see more boost. With the tee situation the long hose and the manual venting was acting like a huge backup forcing boost to open the gate. Take the hose off and leave the tee and see how much boost. If you need more just add another tee. The bungee was allowing the gate to blow open at high rpm. We need to see this thing on 15-18 psi.

It's too cool seeing you do some back yard stuff to get results you want but you already know to get more out of that engine, you're gonna need the real deal stuff. Great video..

I remeber watching those Saturday morning automotive shows in my youth. I believe we are about the same age, Ha Ha. My high school's friend girfriend bought a brand new Eclipse base model in white and we used to cruise around in it all the time. I had a 68 Nova with a 307 and a powerglide tranny. Everyone remebers me and that car! My favorite Eclipse color was that orange copperish color. That would be a good one. A co-worker had a green or blue one, I cant remeber and it looked good also

You can use more than one tee at a time or even simpler is to drill holes in the line. You can get a pretty accurate boost level by adding more holes until you get the results you're looking for. It's not a permanent thing, unless you're Kyle from the boosted boiz channel, but it will give you an idea of what the engine is capable of. Having a k swapped Mercedes and other turbo toys pfi speed and boosted boiz are required reference material.

That pink fluid is actually RedLine shockproof gear oil. Extremely heavy duty and a reddish pink color. They only hold like .3 quarts in the transfer case. Extremely high quality and expensive fluid. The viscous coupler is in the transmission, the transfer case is just direct drive on DSMs.

Evo 8/9 rear brakes bolt right on, fronts need an adaptor bracket or JDM 6th gen Galant VR4 knuckles (I have those on my AWD Spyder!). Need to trim the dust shields. The rear drum brake is the same, eclipse parts work with the Evo rotors.

I love the content and the fact you guys are local (I'm out in the McHenry area). As far as the color choice, I'd go with the Durango Copper Pearl (which is a stock color for the '95 GTX). If you wanted to go CRaY crAy, I've always loved the Holden colors for the "Pontiac" GTO - specifically Brazen Orange metallic or Spice Red Metallic. These colors change a LOT depending on the lighting, but I also know, the Brazen Orange takes almost 2X the amount of paint to cover a car completely.... Still, these colors are SICK (esp if you use a matte finish on the Brazen)...

This is super cool to see. This platform is VERY similar to my Evo III. The heavy shockproof gear oil definitely is goopy if is is old. Alex, check the drivetrain for TMZ serial numbers and see if Tim built anything on that car. That would be amazing if he did. Hope to see you and the car at a cars and coffee soon!

A fun thing to add would be an on-screen counter going for the "boost" drinking game that looked like one of the gauges you added to test the car. Awesome video. I always liked Alex on LSC but Peter makes it next level.

I'd say to just respray with the original color, but if you want to go with something different, I feel like a midnight purple would look stunning. Especially if it has a glossy finish

We use to do the "free mods" back in the day. Pull out the reducer in the air valve on the frame rail and we'd pickup 2-3psi of boost. Flip the intake and allow the air filter to be exposed, it'll increase air flow and you can hear the bypass valve. We'd also trim back the tube that the bypass valve dumped into the intake tube as well. Not huge gains, but definitely noticeable.
@jacobscott1309
@jacobscott1309 Жыл бұрын
I'm willing to bet the lack of boost is due to air flow. Get it breathing with an intake and you should see another 2ish psi.
